Mushroom & Swiss Burger and the Haddock BLT with a Beet & Spinach side salad.
    Katie D.

The Redwood Grill has good food which rarely disappoints. The location has lots of parking and the restaurant is deceivingly large which can accommodate big groups. The downsides include: the atmosphere is very dull with dreary decor, seniors make up most of the patrons (no offence, Grandpa!), and the service tends to be a little slow or insincere. My husband and I used to live in an apartment near here so we've been many times over the past 6 years. I've always loved their fish and chips, and they've updated the menu over the years with new things to try. Most recently we went yesterday and I ordered the Haddock BLT with a Beet & Spinach side salad, my husband ordered their Mushroom & Swiss Burger with a side of fries. My meal was delicious and I'd recommend it! My husband's burger was a little dry and bland (he couldn't taste any condiments on it), but his fries were perfect. Our server yesterday was nice enough, but asked us how our meals were twice without actually pausing to stop at the table, just while walking past us. The restaurant wasn't that busy, so she didn't need to rush. I watched her and other staff members drinking water or soda at the bar and chatting for a long while, so she obviously had time to waste. We'll definitely be back, but it'd be great if they updated the place a bit and re-trained their staff.

    Steak and frites $25

Had supper here, the staff were very friendly and the restaurant was clean. First thing, there is only 1 steak on the menu. All the burgers are fresh and made in house according to the waitress. Ordered a plain burger and beet salad, and the steak. Burger was excellent and the beet salad was very good. Steak however was another story. ordered medium, came out almost well done and was bland and very oily, which tells me it was not a fresh steak and that it was probably prepackaged and then was cooked in hot oil in a frying pan and put on the grill to give it the grill marks. The fry frites were ok but heavy on lemon, they don't really go well together. It's $25 for the steak. Would have sent it back but was on time crunch. Pros- awesome burgers and salad -drink prices are reasonable Cons- definitely the steak for $25. It was very very disappointing Would return but only for the burgers

DO NOT CHANCE THE CHICKEN !!!

Brunch is my favorite meal!..... Myself and 2 others decided to try somewhere new today, after checking out the menu online, THE REDWOOD looked intetesting. * I really looked forward to the Chicken and Waffles * Our visit did not start off well: 1. it took over 15 minutes for a server to come to our table 2. Ordered coffee and food all at once , after the long wait. 3. When the chicken and waffles arrived, it seemed like small amount of food for the price ( one small pc of chicken , 1 very small waffle and 2 poached eggs. ) 4. It did look good, until I cut into the chicken, it looked a little PINK, I asked my friend if she also thought it looked undercooked, she agreed. I sent it back, the server apologized and offered another. 5. When the replacement plate was brought out, the server said " Fingers crossed this one is cooked" !!! 6. This one was even MORE RAW !!! * see enclosed picture * 7. Needless to say, I was not interested in eating anything. Server " I will take that off your bill?" YA THINK ???

My chicken curry pasta with sweetens coconut.....

Before I even start, I'm going to tell you... I'm currently having an allergic reaction as I type! I will NOT be EVER going back! Bathroom- window dressed! Customer Service- horrible Food- not worth it! Bathroom It looks impressive but it's all show! There's a soap pump, filled with water! No soap anywhere to be found! Screws missing from door hinges... It looks nice! But it's all faked! Customer service Oh my! It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had! We were there with a group, one person had a lot of food issues, the waitress came back 4 times with excuses why they couldn't serve her! They settled on a compromise that was agreeable.. The waitress always came to one end of the table and asked only 4 of us about everything ignoring half of our group! She ran away faster then anything between orders! I have allergies, and clearly they were not communicated! Otherwise I'd not be having a reaction as I write this! Food Holy crap was it ever GARBAGE! I ordered a chicken curry pasta, there was sweetened coconut on it, which doesn't work with a savoury dish! When it started to get cold the oil started separating from the sauce! My pasta was over cooked... Basically it was TERRIBLE! Combine the terrible experience with the person in our group with issues, the whole experience has me ready to seriously call for a boycot until they fix their service and up their food quality so it's worth the cost!

Understaffed, overpriced, less than mediocre cuisine. Do not recommend. Only upside is cleanliness and ambiance.

Service was great, food was fair. UNFORTUNATELY we saw mice everywhere. If we didn't already pay and eat, we would have left.

Firstly, they make the best Caesar salad ever. It has homemade croutons with delicious seasoning, and big chunks of pancetta in it. The dressing whether it's store bought or not is peppery and delicious. We are also quite convinced they make the best mozza sticks ever. Hugeeeeeee chunks of fresh mozza with an amazing crunchy batter and herb sour cream. So good. SO GOOD. I've also tried both the meatball and chicken Parmesan hero. The meatball wins marginally... the marinara is so flavorful and they put garlic aioli and black olives on it, and the seasoning of the meatballs itself is just to die for. The bread is clearly homemade and it's just delicious. Also huge. I couldn't eat the whole thing. I got the cavatelli with sausage tonight and it was also amazing. The vodka sauce was just ridiculously flavorful and the Italian sausage was also delicious, the flavor combo of the 2 of them together was unreal. Anyway, if you're looking for a solid Italian meal this is it. And I haven't even tried the pizzas yet!

It's a bit of a long haul from my office, but an appointment in the area brought me by and I had to scratch my sub itch. The menu is pretty compact , with eight-ish subs on the go at any given time, including a rotating monthly special. Prices seem to be comparable to the premium subs at their local competitors. The Italian bonafides of the Buddy Roma caught my eye: with lettuce, tomato, provolone, mortadella, ham, salami and roasted bell peppers, all held together with a pesto mayo, it seemed like an easy win! Taking the hefty sandwich back to the office, I unwrapped it and dug in. There was a generous portion of meats, with their tender, salty and savoury goodness melding together. The provolone added its signature mild funk, while the roasted bell pepper and pesto mayo really brought up the flavour with bright vegetal notes. Some acid would have been nice to cut through all the richness, but this was definitely a tasty sub nonetheless! A truly great sandwich is often more about the bread than it is the ingredients, and while Buddy's standard sub bun wasn't groundbreaking, it was light and soft, and held up well against its robust fillings. A return visit had me trying their clubhouse sub. If you're a club sandwich purist, it's a bit of a curve ball since in addition to lettuce, tomato, bacon and turkey, it has Black Forest ham, Swiss cheese and dill pickles. Let's be honest, getting your nose out of joint about something like a club sandwich is a bit much, and these additions are all very typical sandwich ingredients in their own right. Once again, it was a very solid sandwich! It was generously filled, and the *real* crumbled bacon stood out flavour-wise, with the tomato and pickles cutting through the savoury ingredients and slathering of mayo. The hefty sandwich made for two good lunches. I could have put it down in one, but I would have been significantly less productive that afternoon. Buddy's is putting some quality sandwiches out and fills what was a surprising blind spot for downtown Halifax, while filling up your stomach.

Tunisian Dude specializes in street food, with a very lean menu that's comprises of a handful of sandwiches. Their stuffed baguette piqued my interest and I hunkered down to eat at the bar seating by their front window, taking in the suburban sights of Herring Cove Road. While waiting for my food, I saw the very affable, patient owner handle some older, less adventurous eaters through the menu and I was impressed with his people skills, all the more so since I'm not sure they're something I possess anymore after many blessed years of not being in customer service. When I got my sandwich, it was a sight to behold - thin, crisp bread was absolutely *crammed* with beef (chicken and tofu versions are also available), cheese and sautéed veg. The earthy seasoning was flavourful but still very approachable, and my selected level of spice (3 out of 5) had a pleasant zing without overshadowing the other flavours. This is an absolute hot mess of a sandwich, in the very best way! A small side of fries was of the coated variety, and while some good hand-cut fries are always preferred, these were a safe bet and still hit the spot. Tunisian Dude may be off the beaten path, but you're got to try this this unique restaurant slinging some delicious Tunisian bites!
