For electrolysis - this is as good as it gets! (If you're not familiar with the procedure - just know that it is by nature painful, but the only really permanent hair removal method where a needle is inserted in the hair follicle and an electrical current "zaps" the hair- one at a time.) It is painstaking. so while it is permanent - it takes a while, because each hair needs 2-3 treatments and the growth cycle of a hair is so long that you will have to go back for a while- but once it is done - it is done! Monica's place is clean and well lit, she is very punctual (I have never had to wait for an appointment) and she is very pleasant to be around (which is a plus when someone is inches from your face, zapping hairs in a painful way!) She is very professional, and always washes up right before treatment, keeps her equipment meticulously sterilized and I have never had as much as a pimple of inflamed hair from the procedure, and she adjusts the current appropriately to the area she's working and the coarseness of the hairs she's removing. She is also very knowledgable, and whenever I ask her about how it works, etc. she has excellent in depth explanations about electolysis - just interesting for me who likes to know how things work. Beware that she has a very strict cancellation policy and will charge you if you cancel late or don't show up. If you are late, you will have less time for her to work on you, because she won't let the next client suffer for your tardines. She's fair and professional about it. She's also very busy, and books at least 1 sometimes 2-3 weeks out. The reason (I'm guessing) she doesn't have more reviews here is that electrolysis sometimes is a personal procedure and people don't brag about that they get their chin hairs removed, the way they openly discuss getting their finger or toenails clipped and painted. I can highly recommend Redwood Electrolysis for those irritating hair that you're tired of tweezing or plucking. read more

I met Monica three years ago when I moved into the Santa Cruz area and was looking for a quality electrolysist. She was recomemmned to me by her instructor, who worked on me before I moved. Monica is very professional and definitely treats her profession with heart and sincerity. I can tell she enjoys her work. She does electrolysis "the right way" instead of cutting corners, as I have heard some operators will do. She knows and understands her equipment and is very particular about asepsis. I really wanted this to work with Monica especially because it's a self-run business, but after months and months of bad treatment, I decided to end any business with her or her business. At first, we both couldn't get a hold of each other, but that quickly changed and I wouldn't get a call back from her two weeks after I had tried to reach her numerous times. After a little over a month, we finally scheduled a consultation which went pretty well. She wasn't able to give me a concrete estimate of the cost which was a little worrisome considering it was in the thousands, but understandable considering that the price is dependent on hair growth so it varies person to person. After the consultation, things went awry. She did not respond to my phone calls or texts. I did not do anything to make her think I would not be a good customer and in fact I did the complete opposite- I promised my service, arrived on time, replied in a timely manner... I told her from the beginning I wanted to get my areolas done because I had been self-conscious of them my entire life. She told me that she takes the most pride in seeing people gain new-found confidence after the electrolysis is done. That is all I wanted to gain. She continued to ignore my calls and messages for months until I finally left a detailed message with her for when I was available so we could move forward and make an appointment- keep in mind I had everyday available except for a few hour slots unavailable some days, but definitely a very free schedule. She did not reply to this until about a month after I left a voicemail checking in. She sent me a text message saying "we are not a good fit" and that I should move onto someone else for treatment. I was very confused by this as I had been very compliant and willing to go through with treatment, without any hassle. I was also upset because I had planned to start the treatment at the end of fall/ beginning of winter and she declined my request at the end of winter - making me wait another year and leaving me unanswered in my self-consciousness. Once I questioned her as to why she wasn't willing to treat me, she only ignored me and refused to respond. I am writing this because I do not want anyone to go through- to wait patiently, while exerting a lot of time and energy to make this work, only to be left with a dismissing text... I created a new account to write this because I was embarrassed to share I was getting hair off my areolas, but this is something I have wanted to share with others because I know I researched a lot to try and find a good electrolysis technician. Now I am left with no other options, as I have not found any promising options from other places... Be wary of Monica and her business! read more

I have been receiving treatment from Monica for almost a year. She has been professional and is always fair and on time when it comes to treatments. She was always willing to address my concerns and also made adjustments to treatment so it worked best for me. I have had wonderful results with her work.
