Amazing! Flavors are to perfection! I missed the photo for the chefs compliment, but it was a perfect blend of flavors, had a spice kick to it, but was oh so delicous with the cabbage up top. We just came from eating so opted for an appetizer I ordered the mofongo and it was so DELICIOUS!! Words do it no justice you must go in and try it for yourself you will be happy you did! Service was excellent, the waitresses were great, friendly and kind. Chef was amazing! We will be back next time for a full on dinner. My sister and I were early for a wine tasting, and decided to get a glass of wine while we were waiting. We happened to walk by Redwood Bar and Kitchen and decided to stop in. It was Happy Hour, and they had some specials as well as discounted wine. Chef Ivan came out and talked with us about the restaurant and we asked about his win on Food Network's Chopped. I had actually seen him cook and win, so that was fun. He also was on Guy Fieri's Diners and Drive Ins in episodes featuring his restaurant, Ivan's Cookhouse in North Miami Beach. We both watch that as well. We ordered the Hummus - (Roasted Garlic Garbanzo Beans Pressed Olive Oil accompanied with Pita Bread) as well as a Chicken Tacos. The hummus was delicious and the chicken tacos full of flavor. We really had a nice time at the bar. We will definitely come back to try other dishes! It's definitely worth checking out!! read more

In town for SOBE we found Redwood thru YELP. Redwood is a neat restaurant with a mix of traditional seating and home style from your house with even a breakout area with lounge chairs. The restaurant lighting is soft, and the bar area is attractive and intimate. We arrived at 6pm and met the chef/owner and were further in luck as tonight the restaurant offered live music - acoustic guitar My wife and I shared the ceviche which was flavorful and refreshing with the proper amount of acid and came with homemade chips - delicious. For mains my wife had the linguine von gole , it was good but could have used more clams and the ones it was served with were slighlty overcooked. I ordered the flat bread marguerita with grill chicken as an additional throw on. The pizza size was perfect and the flavor was good Overall a great environment to meet with friends and enjoy dinner next time I will try a chef special. read more

We were only one of two couples in the restaurant, so it was quiet but it is dark inside. Great drink menu -- cocktails and beer. They brought out bread and it was delicious -- warm and soft with a tasty oil dip. We ordered the pork belly plantain for an appetizer and it was excellent. The steak was a great cut and juicy, and the potatoes it came with were soft and great. Got there at 7:35 on Valentine's Day. Walked out at 9:10 after having only been served four glasses of water, which took them an hour and a half and two cans of soda which took another 10 The other two drinks, the appetizers and meals who knows? this place was great! my family and i went on a thursday night and we were only 1 of 2 groups there. our server was very nice and attentive (i forget her name, but we went on 2/12/26!!!) chef ivan came out to talk with us about some of the menu items and gave suggestions, he was so friendly. to start, they gave us herring fritters on the house, which my family said were great (i don't eat seafood lol)!! In town from Dallas and made a trip into downtown Hollywood from the beach for some dinner. From the start, all the staff were very friendly. Gina, Rene and Valentina were the best. (Okay, all those names are made up, but the service was great.) Wife and I had some nice drinks while listening to a great jazz band, Off the Deep End (special props to the trumpet player). Everyone in the house loved them. We started with the calamari. Wife had the stuffed flounder and I had the shrimp scampi... very nice. Chef came out to great us, which was a very nice touch. Off music for pricing though. VERY nice waiter. He was the best part of dinner. We had calamari. Decently fried but no flavor. Shrimp scampi. Fine. Ordered the special- crab stuffed flounder. I stopped in early on a Saturday night during the Harrison Street Art Walk. The sign outside caught my attention with "crab stuffed mushrooms." Peter was the bartender. I'm not sure what he made for a cocktail, but it was DEEE-Lish!!! Some sort of vodka, mango or apricot thing. First, everyone gets a fried herring bite with cole slaw. Yummy!! Next, I had the mushrooms, and they were stuffed with real crab. I was getting a little full, so I got the ceviche appetizer. It was WAY more than an appetizer, and I brought home the rest. My boyfriend and I walked into this place and really wanted to try this place. We were the first to walk in this afternoon and had Heidi as a our server. She was sweet and told us this place was fairly new. We loved the ambiance and the music. We were kind of hungry so, decided to order like 3 appetizers. We ordered the burrata salad, mofogo, & the spare ribs. Let me tell you, everything just melted into your mouth. The burrata salad, full of flavor. Such a simple salad with so much flavor. Each bite had a burst of flavor with the fresh tomatoes, arugula, and olive oil. The Mofogo , basically was a plantain topped with pork belly and Kimchi pickled slaw. These flavors were epic. This is a must!!!! The plantain was cooked so perfectly ! Had a great crunch sound. The pork belly was so tender & the slaw brought all the flavors together. Each flavor complimented each other. The spare ribs were absolutely to die for. The first bite you take was an experience in itself. The meat was so tender that it fell off the bone so gently and melted straight into your mouth. The bbq tangy sauce was perfect for these spare ribs! You can tell these spare ribs were slowly cooked to perfection. I am happy with this place and will be coming back to try more ! Ducked in to eyeball the place and try the fare as this is my area of operations and I run a walking food tour here in the downtown area. The place used to be called Sushi Blues, and back a bit they used to serve the most amazing Lemon Basil Martini and now Chef Ivan has re-imagined the space and added some new seating options and a cool new mural of Crockett and Tubbs from "Miami Vice." Love it. So, I like the place because: * Big, roomy, different seating options * Sat right on Harrison Street near a parking garage * Stage for live music * Nice, new décor! * Excellent service * Full liquor bar and big wine selection * Very tasty food! We visited Redwood Bar and Kitchen for the second time within a week and I must say we were blown away each time by the experience. Award winning Chef Ivan and his team are amazing!!! We stumbled on the place on a Tuesday night and liked it so much we decided to return with a party of 9 for a pre-Mothers Day gathering on Friday night. The food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was delightful! This is now our new favorite restaurant in South Florida. Food, service, and value are all phenomenal. Highly recommended! Was excited to try this. We had to sit outside at wobbly table as the music inside at 6pm was terribly loud. There is not an automatic close so waiter or patrons has to close. We ordered a whole fish with black rice. We were given white rice and the fish was so dry. If there had been some kind of sauce in might have been palatable. I would rather flush $65 down the toilet. One star for the waiter who was polite. Just a reason downtown Hollywood places don't last. Residents have to drive elsewhere to get a decent meal! read more

When you look for reviews and see several 5 star ones, mixed in with absolutely terrible reviews, that all echo the same complaints: ridiculous wait time for food once ordered, bland tasting meals, different food coming out than what you ordered--believe the echos. They are repeating truth. My husband and I waited for 45 minutes to be served a plate of plain beats and literally, 4 mixed green leaves, for what was labeled a "beet salad". And why were the leaves salty? Your guess is as good as mine. My husband ordered some chicken kabob/skewer dish that was described as coming with basmati rice and I ordered some stir fry vegetables, which had absolutely no flavor whatsoever so I cannot say they tasted bad, with tofu and black rice. Both my husband and I received the black rice, which was crunchy in several bites. The bread that came out with the oil? I've read it being described as warm and soft. Well, perhaps they ran out of that option last night because our bread was super heavy, hard and inedible. My tofu dish brought 2 small cubes ... hardly enough to have been advertised as the protein of the dish. We only had water and they were never refilled; we visually did not hide our displeasure from the waiter, who thought the reprieve for our disappointment would be to meet the chef, which the restaurant highly markets and reminds customers was the winner of Chopped! Show ... in 2012. We didn't want to create an even more negative experience by doing that and paid over $60 for food that we ended up having to top off with delicious morsels from the Food Hall, a few minutes away by way of walking. Perhaps you can only order the "famous" dishes? We don't know. We will never go there again and hope for the continued success to the Chef. And perhaps end this review with a gentle reminder to him to ask himself, "Is this what I would serve someone I loved?" This experience was very much subpar but we pray that a love for cooking and everything food will give this restaurant the depth it deserves, which is what customers are looking for. read more

My review mirrors the other recent review (3/15). I dined at the restaurant Saturday, March 15th. This was one of my worst dining experiences in years. Service was extremely slow. The server failed to listen when we requested cancellation of one appetizer to be replaced by another. We ended up getting both appetizers. The humus was good. The humus was probably the best part of the dining experience. Regarding the slow service; I saw another diners leave due to the slow service. They were seated but the server never took their drink orders. I order the "beef" Kebab. I have no idea what type of "beef" it was but it was the toughest, fattiest piece of meat I've ever had. Taking a bite of the "meat", I found either bone or gristle and was lucky I didn't crack a tooth. I stopped eating after that. I also inquired if the restaurant had steak sauce. No. The server was so clueless, he didn't ask if anything was wrong with my meal. The server failed to check on the table. Request drink refills never materialized. No one in my party enjoyed their food. The restaurant decor is nice. Based on the menu and decor, I was expecting a nice dining experience, unfortunately that wasn't the case. I do not recommend this restaurant. There are too many excellent restaurants in the area to return here. . read more

Went here when they first opened and we're trying to figure out who/what they wanted to be. Asked about the happy hour, at that time they had to ask the chef who decided it was 30% off wine. So we stayed for a glass and got the jerk wings- for sure needed more of a char. Nothing special but a super awkward vibe. We assumed it was just because they were new. We finally decided to go back tonight for happy hour, after walking by pretty much every day (but never recognizing the every changing staff who stood outside begging for service). What a total let down. The sign outside and the menus say happy hour "daily" but when we sat down the bartender said she'd have to ask the chef and later replied, it's only "daily" during the week. There was no one in here at the time. Again the vibe was just off. We decided to take our local business elsewhere. read more

It was four of us for New Years dinner. The seating was spacious and the decor was festive. Guitar player was a nice touch. Appetizers were Outstanding:: spare ribs, evictee and beet salad. Whole Snapper for entree you need to be careful of bones and you need to work for your dinner. Veal chop very good. The sweet potato vegan entree was very good.
