I was in the mood for some griot so I placed a pick up order from here and my food was conveniently ready within 30 minutes. It was a bit difficult to find at first as it's a bit tucked away and they were about to close. There's tables to dine in here and my pick up was quick and easy. My partner got the fried shrimp and we were both throughly satisfied with our meals and the portion size as we ate this on 2 occasions (who doesn't love leftovers). Got it with a side of Pikliz and I WISH they had the baked Mac and cheese but they were out. Next time I've gotta try it out and maybe give some other dishes a try.

15-20 min wait Large portion for $20 - Griot (Fried Pork) Dinner w/ rice & peas & fried plantain. - Very soft, lots of extra fat (not a fan but I know people who loves it!), very crispy.

First time ordering food from this Haitian restaurant and it was worth it!! The food was hot and fresh and they literally gave me my money's worth!! My takeout plate was FULLLL and the food was GOOD! I ordered the complete griot fritay: Griot- 9/10 a couple of hard pieces Accra- 10/10 perfect Marinade- 10/10 perfect Plantains - 10/10 perfect Piklis - 10/10 Everything was perfectly seasoned! The piklis had the right amount of spice and acid! This place is probably on my top 3 Haitian restaurants I've eaten from living here in Miami!! Run don't walk here!!!!!!!!

This food was definitely worth the drive. I decided to try this place based on a review I found on Instagram ordering was super simple. Customer service was amazing and the cashier was able to offer recommendations. Pricing was pretty average. There's indoor seating and nice music playing so a good ambience. I ordered the black rice with fried pork. The rice was amazingly seasoned, and the portion size was very generous. If I could eat this rice every day I would the fried pork was nice and crispy and very well seasoned. It was packed with flavor, and the pickles added an extra touch of spice and flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed this food. I couldn't even finish it all and it heated well the next day for leftovers.

We went for a birthday lunch. We all ordered the dinner. A total of 7 orders that all came out correctly and within 20 minutes. The serving size was plenty (most of us had leftovers).

Stopped by to grab dinner after leaving the gun range since it was practically next door. I had seen this restaurant pop up on Instagram so I decided to check it out. I ordered the Griot and blk rice. The meal came with fried plantains, which were cooked perfectly. The blk rice was nice and flavorful. The only downside was the griot was a little dry... yet still seasoned well. The staff were very friendly and they had a nice mix of kompa/ afro beats playing while I was there. I will try them again at an earlier time on the weekend to see if that makes a difference with the griot.

To our surprise, we saw they have daily lunch specials (just know they cut off after 3 pm). I got the small sized meal with oxtail, rice and peas, plantains with a side of the Mac & cheese (additional charge). My partner got the jerk chicken with the same sides. Just be careful because the jerk chicken has a strong spicy kick to it! They have lots of different meats to choose from, seafood too. Unfortunately, they had ran out of the Pineapple Ginger and Sorrel drinks I was anticipating from looking at their online menu. We got our food to go and were delighted at the generous portion sizes, as they produced leftovers for the next day. The employees there were very friendly, it felt great to support a small local business especially after having just experienced the Hurricane in Jamaica. I'd definitely recommend this spot for anyone in the area looking for some good Caribbean food! I'm definitely going back for more especially the Mac and cheese that was cooked to perfection :)

In short : Come for the authentic Puerto Rican comida and stay for the beautiful atmosphere…read more It was my father's birthday and I wanted to take him for Puerto Rican food. He is Puerto Rican :) and we do cook some but not all of it . Anyway... Backstory: Chef Iram Ayala was born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico. This is considered Jibaro territory and they are known to be great cooks ! He has worked in many high end hotels such at The Breakers, Ritz Carlton etc. He started in the Hollywood farmers market and his comida became so popular that he opened this restaurant in honor of his grandmother Sara. Wela is short for Abuela which means grandmother in Spanish . Atmosphere: it's a tiny space located directly off Hollywood blvd but hard to miss because of the colorful storefront. Inside it feels as if you are stepping in Puerto Rico. Taino artwork is all over the walls ( Taínos are the indigenous people that all Puerto Ricans descended from). It's breathtaking. Appetizer: We ordered beef empanadillas (what Ricans call empanadas ) , Alcapurrias, and croquetas de mofongo. The empanadillas were fresh and came with a mayo ketchup sauce. Alcapurrias are specific to PR cuisine and they are a plantain fritter stuffed with whatever meat you desire . We had beef and they disappeared instantly . The croquetas stole the show in my opinion. They are unique in that they are made out of mofongo, stuffed with cheese (or whatever you want ) and served with a guava salsa. They were fire! Get these! Dinner: My father had the chuletas with arroz con gondules , my son and nephew both had steak and I had a pernil mofongo. Let me just take a moment to say this mofongo was probably one of the best I've had in a looonnngggg time . It wasn't dry.. it was so flavorful and the pernil was amazing. I had to stop myself for eating it all. Everyone liked their meats but the arroz con gondules was a bit lacking . It could've had more gondules and some green olives and/or pork. I'm used to My dad and Abuelita making it so flavorful so my standards are high on that side dish. For dessert we had the homemade tres leches . It was light , almost too light . Service was good.. our waitress was very nice. Overall I would definitely come back again.. Especially when they have their live music .
