The front desk at our hotel recommended JRK!, and wow... she did not steer us wrong. When we travel, we always try to eat local food--never something we can get back home--so we were excited to try this spot. It's located inside a nearby mall, which turned out to be high-end and really beautiful. We grabbed an Uber and headed over. The food absolutely hit the spot. We ordered three bowls with jerk chicken and rice and another bowl with curry chicken and spicy rice. Everything was fantastic and the portions were generous--definitely worth the price. When we ordered they had just served their last portion of oxtail, which was a bit of a bummer because that's what I originally wanted. But while we were eating, I noticed the line never stopped and the server was constantly plating food. That's always a great sign that a place is doing something right. They actually did replenish the oxtail shortly after... but by then we were already full. We also grabbed a rum cake and it was a 1000 out of 10. Must try! The only downside is that it's located inside the mall. It would be amazing to experience the full vibe in a standalone restaurant setting with maybe an even larger menu. RIDICULOUS HIGH SKYROCKET PRICES HERE! I will never come back here. This place is hugely expensive and just greedy. I couldn't even enjoy their oxtail because it costed $26!!!!! Their Brown stew chicken with tax costed me a whopping $16 and when I immediately got a full refund for it, their cashier told me I'd only be getting back $13. I got a refund on the Brown stew chicken and the two sides of cabbage because it tasted SOOOO TERRIBLE!! I only ate their weird mac and cheese which was ok I guess and their bland canned water. When I approached the counter, I eyed the various foods on display, especially the yuca fries which I remembered really enjoying the last time I ate here. A female employee was nice enough to place some yuca fries in a small takeout container and bag a mild beef patty for me as well. I sat at an available table to enjoy my fries and patty. The yuca fries was so yummy!...soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, and lightly seasoned. The amount given wasn't enough for me, I could do with some more...these are really good! I also tried a curry chicken patty, and it tasted great. I had heard about JRK on TikTok but didn't realize it was at Aventura Mall until I stumbled upon it while visiting a store. Craving jerk chicken for so long, i was excited to come across a "chipotle" serviced jerk spot! Got the jerk chicken, Jamaican fried rice/rice n peas mix, Maduros, jerked corn, & fried yucca sticks. An adventurous vegans paradise . LISSEN firstly the broccoli was the second best (try melting pot in mojo broth) I've ever had! It's more of a bowl style where you add sides to your rice/salad and you add a protein. I did the jerk chicken with the jerk rice with the sides of cabbage, plantains, and corn. The wife had the rice and peas with the curry chicken with the same sides. The rice and peas was a hit for me. You can taste a hint of coconut which is what I like. My bowl was good though and it was spicy enough not too spicy but what would you expect from a Jamaican restaurant. When I noticed it and brought it to the cashiers attention she said that she refunded it but could not give me a receipt. She told me the refund / reversal should reflect in 30 to 45 minutes, which was a lie. Apparently they have a scam going on there that the customers are not aware of. I was roaming Aventura mall and discovered their diverse food court. The food court is really like many multi ethnic restaurants. The servers were really nice, especially Jeshua. The ambience is great because they have reggae playing and that's cool. I tried this restaurant for the first time and was impressed. They gave large portions. I really enjoyed the curry chicken and curry patties the most. The jerk chicken was very spicy and maybe not as authentic as it could have been. But for the most part all of the food was really good. I like that they had a lot of sauces that you can add on the side, especially the "jerk cool ranch", which is really tzatziki sauce. I went a second time after I came back from my cruise and the manager could really have a better attitude towards people who are patronizing his business. He just be mad for no reason. The setup is similar to Chipotle, as you start with your base, protein, toppings, and sauce. For my visit, I did a BYOB (build your own bowl) with my base as half rice and peas and salad, jerk chicken, cabbage slaw, pineapple plantains, and pineapple mango salsa. For my sauce I went with the rude boy - which it reminds me of the song from Rihanna. So the rice and peas were cooked perfectly and had a hint of coconut that made it so yummy with the jerk chicken. The chicken was spiced and seasoned very well, and the chicken was tender and soooooo juicy. The cabbage slaw is fresh with red cabbage and carrots and adds that perfect crunch. The salsa was my favorite as I love mango and pineapple, everything about it was fresh and delicious. The pineapple plantains were sweet which plantains are already slightly sweet. They were cooked and seared perfectly but a little too sweet for my liking. However, when you add the rude boy sauce which is a scotch bonnet sauce, it does balances the flavor profile. A single tear fell as I eat the last bite, my wife asked "what's wrong, is it too spicy" No, these are happy tears. I realized my whole life I've been deprived of excellent Jamaican cuisine until now. Simply put I finally found the Usain Bolt of Jamaican food, the gold medal pinnacle of what Jamaican food should be. We both ordered from jerk chicken, rice and peas, plantains, cabbage, yuca, and broccoli, and two patties. I am thoroughly convinced that it will not have mattered but we ordered, the results would have been the same. After every bit we would look up and say "this is the best broccoli I've ever had, or is this the best cabbage I've ever had." So on through every element of the meal. My wife is Hispanic and was raised on yucca and plantain but it did not matter, this surpassed any experience that she's had with those foods before. The plantain had a sweetness to it that we think might have been cinnamon? Doesn't matter it was magical. The panties were different than any Jamaican Patty that I've had, starting at the crust, it was light and flaky and soft, bursting with flavor. In my excitement, I told my wife she has to try this curry chicken patty, it turned out to be a mistake as she promptly stole the rest of my patty!
