We are real estate investors and needed one of our rent house re-keyed, so I thought I would try this local locksmith. On the phone, I was quoted $75-$85 for re-keying 4 to 6 cylinders. Since this was in line with what we are used to paying, I accepted and they said they would be right out. Their technician arrived 30 minutes later the time they quoted. When the job was completed, I was handed a bill for $118.08! Of course some of that was tax, but that's 30% over the quoted estimate! When I questioned the amount, I was told it was for the extra cylinders. Really? I told them how many there would be before they came out. To make matters worse they charged our debit card twice!
When I called about that, they said my bank did it and that one of the charges would fall off in a few days? Well that sounded fishy, so I called my bank. Sure enough, my account had been "hard charged" twice and the vendor would have to fix it. When I told the lady we get better pricing and service from our other locksmiths, her response was "Use them next time." We will. Still waiting for the refund for the duplicate charge. read more
