An institution. Just go. Cold beer, hot blues, cash only. A vibe and a half. Red will be there. It's like his living room is a club.

The granddaddy of juke joints is just an amazing venue to hear the blues. Cheap beer. Dive bar vibe. We heard a Grammy winner...for $10...sitting ten feet away from him. You must go here. Oh, the beer is cheap and cold. :) read more

It's been more than a few years since I was at Red's Juke Joint, but the most important thing about my visit was that a young legend was leading a great band. He looked so young, and HONESTLY, I'd never heard talent like that!!! (Sorry Joe Bonamassa, you're my bud, but, this is THE dude!). I spent the evening talking to a wonderful lady beside me, and she told me after I couldn't stop raving about the guitarist/singer that he was her 15 yr old son. I told her that I knew he was to be big....no pun...and I'd be watching. I have kept my word. I am so sorry to say that his mom, Princess Pride, has passed within the last couple of years I've seen this young man perform at the Ryman, opening for Buddy Guy (What a dream!!), and in Nashville another time where my hubs gave up his seat and I shared the table and night with Thornetta Davis (Detroit's Queen of Blues~~check her out on your fave search engine). We also recently traveled to Henderson, KY to see Kingfish at the blue festival. I've been to Ground Zero, but my favorite place in the 626 is at Red's, thanks to Kingfish and his Ma'. read more

This is the real deal a true Juke Joint and probably one of the last. Overlook the worn building, poor electrical wiring, deplorable bathrooms. After all you came for the Music. Bring cash to the bar. No wine or liquor. Obey the NO-Video rules and still pics only. Enjoy Watch for Anthony "Big A" or Lucious Spiller. These guys can slap some serious notes. read more

This is a real juke joint. Serves only beer out of a cooler, cash only. The vibe, the characters you'll meet, and the music and musicians, and Red himself, we're an incredible experience. First night I saw a local guy, who according to locals plays in church and they weren't aware of as a guitar player, absolutely rip it up. This guy played a borrowed right handed guitar upside down, not restrung, and absolutely killed. Best guitar player I've ever seen. Next visit got to meet and hear Watermelon Slim tell stories, sing a couple songs and play the harmonica. What a treat. As for our drinks, this being a juke joint, we brought in tequila the first time then wine the next. Be respectful and still leave a tip for Red. read more

This place is the most derelict looking place I've ever walked inside of. The place looks like it could collapse, there is broken stuff and piles of misc. crap in the corners and the bathrooms are about to fall off the back of the building... an architects and Fire Marshall's nightmare. Don't change a thing Red! There are a couple of rows of chairs lined up on 1 side of performing area - no stage just a carpet on the floor - the other side has about 3 small tables and a row of stools. The bar has about 10 crammed short stools in front of it. I imagine it is very claustrophobic when full. When the band started, I was 1 of 9 people there, 18 when I left. I saw a younger blues musician out of Nashville named Robert Eskew play some amazing Blues 3 feet in front of me. Red was behind me tending bar shouting out random things, the lights were off with a few orange stage lights giving a weird glow to the room, random stuff on the walls, and plastic sheets for a ceiling. One of the most surreal and wonderfully authentic nights I've ever experienced. A bridge to another time and culture. It was a $10 cover and 22oz beer bottles were $4 and they only sell beer, set ups for sale if you bring your own liquor. read more

If you are in Mississippi , and love the blues, you need to experience Red's Juke Joint in Clarksdale. One of the last surviving REAL jukes left in America. It's not the cleanest bar, but once you get in, and the music starts.....all that stuff will disappear. One of my favorite hangs in Clarksdale for years ! read more

One of my top two places in the entire world (Boudhanath, Nepal is the other). -- Unlike anything else, anywhere else.

Oh WOW, I was there a year or so ago and loved it. I was raised in the area and know what Dixie is all about. This true no frills Blues Juke Joint is as back to the basics as they come. Its in the heart of Dixie and you will find true Blues music here. Don't get all dressed up togo here or you will stand out in tghe wrong way, and wont't be nearly as fun.. Relax and drink a can of beer and listen to old times in music!! read more

Quite possibly the coolest bar I have ever stepped foot in. For 7$ I got to see Bilbo Walker jamming for hours. If you are looking for a generic music venue like the house of blues or Hard Rock Cafe, Reds is not your place. If you went to check out serious blues music with a true mississippi juke joint feel, reds is certainly the place you want to check out. If you want to see what the place is all about just buy the film "we juke up in here" off of amazon. Can't wait till the next time I visit to grab some pecan smoke BBQ from out front, dink a few lazy magnolia brown ales, listen to some great music and do a few shots of whiskey with Red. One of my favorite quotes ever was when I was talking to Red about his passion for keeping the blues going in the Mississippi Delta "this games for life." I can tell that he meant it. read more

I've only visited Clarksdale once, and it started as a one night stay...which then became a 2 night visit...and after making some friends (locals and tourists) I ended up staying a 3rd night so I could check out T-Model Ford (RIP T!!!). I am glad I did. Red is great as long as you're not being an ass or being cheap. The cover is cheap, but that keeps the place afloat so bring some singles if they pass the hat. Beer is cheap, but you can also bring a bottle and get a "set up", which is just another way for saying soda and a cup of ice...or maybe just a cup...I had so much fun but it's a bit of a haze. Arguably this is the type of place why you visit Mississippi. I fell in love with the town, the state, the people and Red's is a large part of that. I would stay at the Shack-Up in or the Riverside Motel (very close to Red's) or upstairs at Ground Zero but I would really try and be there for a weekend or Blues festival. Maybe if your nice Red will make you some BBQ. Definitely offer him some cash. Red is the man. Oh, unless things have changed the bathroom there is no highlight...best if you can avoid it... read more

A trully 100% authentic juke joint. If you are travelling across Mississippi and you stop a night at Clarksdale, don't miss this place. Real deal blues juke joint Not to be missed when in Clarksdale

Again. Red's is the Real Deal. Spent 2 weeks in March in MS and Red's was the highlight joint. Kingfish is a National Treasure and a Headliner in the making. Baltimore's Woody Jones joined him on 2 cuts that night. They had plenty of food that night at Red's and the band was smokin. Was so happy to later see Kingfish on Luke Cage. Couldn't happen to a cooler more talented fella. And a hat tip to his manager. read more

A must go-to spot for authentic Delta Blues. It will not disappoint. We were there for the Juke Joint Festival... also a must go-to.

If you've read the other 5 star reviews, they're all true! The place looks sketchy, not sure how it's still standing but it all adds to the ambiance and authenticity of the experience you'll get. We were there on Saturday when Lucious Spiller performed. It was by far the best live blues performance I have ever experienced! He was amazing, funny and very engaging! He played for 4 hours and it seemed to have flown by so quickly! If you are looking for Vegas style House of Blues, this is not it! What you'll get is a cozy (very cozy), friendly, soulful juke joint with cheap beer. You can BYOB (wine and liquor) and it's CASH ONLY! We're definitely going back! read more

Yes, Yes, Yes. A real Bonafide Juke Joint. You owe it to yourself to see a place like this while they still exist. The Juke Joints are dying off, and they are where the Blues developed into the fabulous American art form they are. Beer and sodas are all they serve, and it cash only. This is the real deal here. read more

As real and authentic as they come. Came here from NYC and heard Watermelon Slim play. Great experience. Regulars get a little rowdy but it adds to the atmosphere. read more

My wife and I stopped here on Red's birthday / Christmas party and we had a blast ( the asian couple from California!). No matter who you are or where you come from, everyone at Red's becomes part of the family and blues party. From out of towners to locals, everyone was super friendly cool. We had an amazing time listening to Leo Bud Welch, Lucious Spiller and Robert Eskew. I grew up on blues / rock and roll and this was great. Red is a legend and continues to make a major contribution to not only the community but the blues culture of America. He deserves respect and respect the house rules while you're there! Please support Red's and keep the blues alive. If you have the love for blues...Red's is definitely where it's at! read more

If you want a true juke joint live blues experience, this is your spot. If you were looking for a touristy, clean spot, go around the corner to Ground Zero. If you want the real deal, this is it. A meager door fee ($7 the night I went) and hours of live blues (Christone "Kingfish" Ingram when I went) and beer/soft drinks, cash only. Not a bad seat in the house, but it's not pretty, so know that going in. Have fun. Lean into it. read more

Was in the house on 6/4/2016. Had a local band playing and they were very good. They really enjoyed what they were doing and believe me it wasn't for the money. It was from the soul! I see some of the other reviews that mention the price of cover and drinks, REALLY! The house and the musicians have to make it somehow. Red is the perfect host. Walked in the door and he gave me and my lady his own personal chair rather than have us go set in the far corner. Everyone was totally cool. The BBQ outside was well worth the $30 I paid for it and that included a gracious tip. I'm sure the crowds vary as well as the music but it's not any different than the big city bars. KEEP IT ALIVE RED! read more

Oh, what a great evening at Red's. We went on Sunday night so not much else open in Clarksdale -I'm so glad or we may have missed it! This little juke-joint is small, which adds to the welcoming feeling we got when we went in. It looks like nothing from the outside (and nothing fancy on the inside!) but sitting there listening to The Muleman singin' his blues was exactly the blues experience we were hoping to find. You'll find beer, water, or soda only. Sit back and lose yourself in the experience. read more

Just about the funkiest place I've been. Music was great, beer was cold and the last cleaning crew must have left in the 70's. Started to take video of a friend who was playing and Red threatened to "cut me" if I didn't stop. Reactions were mixed about whether or not he was kidding. read more

Cash only, real close to to Ground Zero blues club, but this is the real deal. saw Terry "harmonica" Bean. just one man, a harmonica and a guitar. spoke about solo guitar blues(bb king) VS. just one person when you have to create the rhythm and bass underneath you. small place, tight and run down but warm staff who believe in what their doing and i felt most welcome. so strange to be in a juke joint where the majority of the audience is white other than one couple and the doorman and owner, but it is what it is and i hope that some day it will come back around. but please support them, you will enjoy you r time there. read more
