They have maintained 5 star service over such a long period which is an exception for mechanics in general. Mike is an amazing and upfront guy. I had to get my Porsche serviced and the quote dealer was giving me was crazy high. I checked with Mike and his quote was much lower and he also called out a few things that I did not have to get done right away. More recently I had to get my brakes replaced on my Porsche and Mike's quote and service was awesome. I really value honesty and a smile when dealing with any business and Mike is spot on for both. The owner is a long time Porsche enthusiast with over 35 years experience. I spent a few minutes talking with him and learning from him. He showed me around. He runs this place with a very high bar for quality and it is clear that applies to everyone who works for him. He rebuilds Porsche engines himself and has a number of active projects in the workshop. I had a simple 2nd year service done on my 2021 Cayman GTS. I got an appointment quickly (within a week) and got a very fair, competitive estimate that was much lower than the dealer rate. Got my car back in 3 hours with full explanation of the inspection and state of health. Even offered to sell me some oil (Porsche C40 oil is tough to find) for top-offs. I had my Audi S4 towed to Redmond European after a major belt issue (no need to go into it, but suffice to say that it was my fault =), and even though they were exceedingly busy, they were able to diagnose the issue the next day, and finish repairs and do an oil change the day after. I had used these guys for years until my latest experience. There were several oil leaks in my 993 (100,400 miles) that I wanted to have them fix. I took it over for a quote. They took 2 days to quote me $38,600 and charged me $87.18 for the quote!!!! I took it to Cantrells and they told me that the engine covers had not been off - filled with oil and road dirt still, no indication that they had looked at the engine. The Cantrell quote was $5700 including tax to fix the oil leaks, replace the front struts, and do an alignment. I had them do the work and there were NO surprises - total bill $5700. Redmond European refunded my $87.18 but made no apologies. read more

Estimated 30/hrs of labor with a current labor rate of $110/hr, so you would be looking at $3300 for the engine removal and turbo swap on a 2000 Audi S4... I understand they are a business but that's some serious hour gouging...they either don't have much experience doing turbo swaps (which I doubt because the S4 is so old they had to have done a few over the last 11 years...) or they just want to charge what book is defined by a dealer... I have been quoted $1,600 for turbo swaps and $800 for clutch replacements all day long. Some even offered to do both for $2,000 and if any other work needed to be done while the engine was out they would be happy to do that as well for the same $2,000. Shop around because prices vary dramatically around here. Some honest and some just want a little more... read more

They worked on my wives Mini, the price was good so when the belt threw in my BMW I took that to them. The belt took out the crank seal and they didn't have the tool on hand to replace it so my car sat there for a week until they got the tool in. Then they left the belt debris in the oil pan and test drove it and damaged parts of my engine, even tho the specifically said they would check for debris. They refuse to admit fault, even by their own paperwork the engine error presented itself while they had the car on a test drive. They wanted to change out a bunch of parts and work that was not related at all to the debris they left in the engine. I have found out since from other mechanics that they have a VERY bad reputation. Now I have to spend THOUSANDS of dollars on top of what I have already spent to diagnose their error. I personally believe that they did it on purpose to cause me to spend more money on needless repairs at their shop. Do yourself a favor and find yourself a reputable mechanic, speak to other mechanic shops, don't base it only on the cost read more

Based on my experience with these guys this week, I'm lowering my review 2 stars, and highly doubt I'd go back here in the future. I went in for an estimate on how much it would cost to fix an oil leak and loose suspension. Per our phone conversation, I was clearly coming in for a "quote" on the job, and had already done the research on where the leak was originating from and was clear on what work i wanted a quote for. (its a common problem with my car). I did not seek a diagnosis for the oil leak, but a quote for a specific job. 1st problem: when I came to pick up my car, i found its front end had been run up on the curb so far the plastic bumper was supporting the car (front end was higher than the rear). My car is lowered and the bottom of the bumper is actually lower than the top of most curbs. Since lowering my car I've never done this....so I was pretty displeased to see this to say the least. When the car was backed up the bumber nicely scraped its way off the curb. 2nd problem: The diagnosis/quote i received contradicts itself. In the "problems found" section it states 2 suspension control arms that were worn. In the "recommended fix" section, different controls arms are suggested to be replaced. I expect this is just a mistake from whoever wrote the quote, but it scares me to have someone work on my car that does not have attention to detail. I'll have to have someone else look at the car to determine which control arms are indeed worn. 3rd problem: (this is a bit more trivial, but given 1 & 2 above, it adds to my frustration). I was charged 180 dollars for this "quote". (110/hr labor rate at 1.5 hours, plus a 7 dollar hazardous materials fee). This charge is a bit frustrating because I clearly told them where the leak/issue was coming from, and simply asked for a quote to do the job. I even told them the specific parts I wanted a quote for replacing. There was never any mention of a fee for this quote. Granted I did ask them to look at the steering/suspension to see what was up, but that should take 5 minutes after the car is on the lift. It sure would have been nice for them to be upfront that any "quote" will cost you their flat labor rate of 110/hr, and the diagnosis time is up to them. read more

Redmond European has worked on my last two cars several times over the past few years and they've always done a great job, often going above and beyond. They've done some minor repairs as well as some bigger ones which included pulling the engine and transmission out of the car. ~10k miles later the car is still running extremely smoothly. For the larger services they provided a loaner car (Enterprise) and that has worked well. They're much less expensive than the dealer. That said, my last car was "CPO" and under factory warranty meaning the dealer did the work and I didn't have to worry about the costs. Even still, Redmond European has constantly done a better job than University Audi. So when I bought my next car, I didn't even bother with a factory warranty because I would much rather take my car to RE than to the dealer. The whole crew is very friendly and straightforward. They give you honest opinions and don't make promises they can't deliver on. read more

Update: did some shopping around for a couple repairs needed on my car (one major and one minor) and found an interesting thing - although Redmond European's nominal hourly rate was lower than the competitors', their total estimated price was significantly higher. I ended up going with a different shop. Of course, they say they are computing hours "by the book". After that experience, the suggestions of hour/price inflation in other reviews seem more plausible to me. I'm still pretty happy with the quality of the work they did in the past on my car as well as consistency of the estimates they gave with the final price, but be sure to shop around first. read more

I had a BMW 330i with the transmission out and wanted a salvaged transmission put in. Mike went over the car on his dime and was satisfied that the rest of the car had been well maintained and had a lot more life it in. He rebuilt the transmission, giving me a better warranty, and gave me great advice for potential upcoming problems on the car, even though I live in Spokane and will be taking the work elsewhere. The cost actually came in slightly lower than he quoted me! He LOVES these cars and that comes through. He was very communicative and responsive and the whole experience was very easy. Redmond European does great work. My car was running rough and I had a check-engine light on and I brought it to Redmond European. They quickly diagnosed the issue as a bad ignition coil and they replaced it. I was really impressed about how they handled the issue. There were several fault codes related to the check-engine light but the guys at Redmond European were incredibly honest. Although there were fault codes for the misfire, there were also codes for the O2 sensors as well. The mechanics were incredibly honest and told me that the two issues were probably related and didn't try to sell me on replacing the O2 sensors. (They told me to drive it for a while to see if the issue returns - and it never did.) Thanks Redmond European for doing great work and for being and honest and trustworthy. read more

I have had them do a couple repairs on my Audi A4 and have been thrilled with their service and quality of their repairs. I typically do most of my own maintenance but after hurting my back I haven't been able to do the more labor intensive jobs. Because I do my a lot of my own repairs I am very critical of other people's work and have had bad experiences at other places due to them cutting corners. This was not the case with Redmond European. They did a fantastic job and were completely honest and upfront with the cost and whether something NEEDED to be done or should be done down the road. I highly recommend them, their prices are competitive and they are the only shop I have been to that I have had nothing negative to say. This place was a referral from John Walker's Workshop in Seattle. I took in my wife's 2004 Porsche Cayenne S to replace the brake pads. Before taking it here, I called Barrier Porsche and spoke with someone in the service department who promptly quoted me $2000.00 for this project. When I asked him why it was so expensive, he said confidentally that 'we replace the rotors with the brake pads.' I told him that my mechanic checked the brakes and told me that only the pads needed to be replaced. This guy said; 'we have never changed JUST the brake pads." Enough was enough. Redmond European was a completely differently story. The guy I spoke with, Justin, did mention that with 40,000 miles that our car might need to replace the rotors but was not sure. The shop took care of everything, including arranging for an Enterprise rental car while it was servicing the car. I followed up with Justin regarding the rotors and he said our car would need to replace the rotors the next time we need new pad. The shop did a good job explaining the project in terms of time and cost, then did the job well, and then did a great job explaing any future work. read more

Redmond European was highly recommended to me by a fellow Porsche Club driving instructor . So not being too pleased with the dealer I decided to give them a try when my check engine light indicated a fault with my secondary air pump system. One of the first items to rule out is the air pump itself not working. I indicated on the work order, that I heard the pump functioning therefore the problem must be another source, a cracked line, change over valve, canister, etc. I was disappointed when I read the final invoice that misquoted what I had written "customer complaint of loud air pump...". The total labor and diagnostic charge was $385.00 for a $50.45 part in which the MSRP is $23.95, for a total, including tax, of $482.30. I am upset not only that this was an inordinate amount of time to diagnose and replace the part, but I was never called ahead of time to discuss charges. Although I checked the box requesting to see the old part, I had to ask for that as well. I was advised that my battery was weak and needed replacing. After leaving, I took my car to an independant battery supply company and was told that it, as well as my charging system was well within normal operating limits. I guess I'll need to continue my quest for a repair shop that doesn't look at all Porsche owners as an unlimited source of revenue. read more
