I got a very pleasant surprise yesterday at DSW. I was cheerfully greeted by a young man and later assisted by a helpful young lady. I eventually settled on a couple of maybe selections and almost left to think about it. I ended up buying a pair mostly because of the pleasant people working there. It has become far too normal for retail employees, especially young ones, to greet you with a dismissive "s'up". Both of these two deserve some praise because I probably would have walked away to keep looking elsewhere. I still hate shoe shopping and the shoes are still over priced but I was sold on the great service. Those two are keepers.

In terms of shoe size, sizes I've seen in the store were 9 and up, which are too big for someone like me. I didn't see anything in the 8-8.5 range. The service was good. I was greeted by one employee who happened to walk out from the back room. There were only 2 employees working on this particular day.
