I came in about an hour before close and had an amazing experience. The gentleman working that day did a fantastic job walking me through all the types of boots available, answering all my questions and not rushing me at all. I was between the 875 and 10875 and ultimately went with the 10875 for the non slip outsole. The new tech for measuring shoe size was worth going in person by itself. I always buy a size 12 but found out I'm actually a size 11 but 12 feels better due to the width of my foot. So far I love the boots and I recommend anyone who is interested in red wing products come here in person. They have something for every price range and need from work to casual to comfort. My husband and I went to this location after having received less than stellar customer service at the RWC location. At RWC, the employee didn't acknowledge us or even look up from his phone or whatever he was doing to see if we needed assistance. Compared to our experience at the Santa Cruz location was like night and day. Trevor was eager to assist us, was extremely knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make us happy customers. Trevor was very patient with us as my husband tried on a LOT of boots. Trevor was easy to talk to, a great conversationalist, and shared a lot of fun factoids about the company with us. Once my husband had made his choice, it turned out they did not have his size in stock in the color he wanted. My husband really wanted to have these boots in time for an upcoming interview with a local trade union. But not to fear -- despite the boots being on a multi-week back order, Trevor went out of his way to call other nearby locations to obtain the boots and they arrived to the SC store for us to pick up with 2-3 days. He generously gave us a tradesman discount which was so, so appreciated. Overall we had a very pleasant experience and will continue to shop this location for all our future needs. Really gone down hill. The resoling now costs the same at the sketchy watsonville cobbler(seriously they steal your shoes) and they require upfront payment (no one else I've gone to for resoling requires this). I just needed a black wedge put on to my shoe to replace the white wedge. Last time they didn't remove the whole old white one and I have to continuously dye it black or have an Oreo stripe as an outsole. You shouldn't charge upfront for something that you can't guarantee will be done right, especially to someone who has spent $2000 on your boots and shoes, mostly at this specific store. read more

went in for some new laces when we spotted a belt at the counter that was priced high so we asked about why and what it was made out of, employee didn't really answer the question and instead said in a very passive aggressive tone "it's a heritage belt. It's also the same reason the boots are high priced, it's American made". employee attempted to show us other belts if we were interested because we were curious about the different materials and how they priced their leather, we decided to pass on purchasing a belt and before we left, the employee once again passive aggressively offered us a sticker and made sure to announce that it was free indicating that he thought we just couldn't afford anything in the store because we were asking about their pricing. not gonna lie, everytime I've ever been in this specific location the employees have either been rude or passive aggressive, I feel as if the employees are judging us, not once had a good experience in this store. It makes me very upset because my dad loves their boots because he does a lot of outdoor work but we can never go in there without walking out feeling awful. read more

I spent about an hour at there today. Incredible customer service Real busy too. Guys coming in with blown stitches on very worn boots and were told, "no problem, we fix that for free just give us a week.. "Laces? oh no problem, those are free!" "Do you want us to condition them today for free?" "Don't like how they fit 29 days from now? bring them back.." .. With a little care you should be able to resole the U.S. made versions for $80 a few times. Not cheap, but great fit, incredible selection of sizes and soles and most models are made HERE of the very best materials. read more

I had a wonderful experience at this Red Wings Shoes store. The manager here showed experience, knowledge, and wonderfully hospitable demeanor. C has trouble finding really comfortable work shoes. Serving tables is really hard on the feet as a lot of us know and she is especially sensitive because she seems to have the size foot that does not fit into a regulsr shoe. Anyhow, RWS is known to carry great workshoes, as we were recommended by her mother. The materials in their shoes are of the most durable and highest quality. After using the store manager's assisstance in trying on shoes and finding a pair she wanted to take home, he offered to stretch them (break them in) if needed. C loved the idea, so that her feet would not take the toll of wearing new shoes. Very thoughtful and a great service on their part. About a week later, we returned because their seemed to be a manufacturing problem with the shoe. The manager completely understood and apologized on the company's behalf and redirected to us to a different style with just the right fit for C. There were no other questions asked and a full return was given. We said we would return to buy the shoes recomended and left with our refund. He was so understanding courteous and concerned for C's experience that we were left with an astounding impression of great customert service. He made us repeat customers for sure. read more

I have bought at least 8 pairs of boots from them over the last 25 years, three for me (two are still going!) and the rest for employees. The service is outstanding, the knowledge unparalleled and the quality is... Well, it's USA-built Red Wings, what more to say? Heck, they even give me free replacement laces for hiking boots and sneakers I bought somewhere else! This is the kind of business inspires reverence and loyalty, with business practices many local small business owners should take some cues from. I was given my Beckman boots as a graduation gift four years ago and stopped by from SF for several repairs on Christmas Eve. I was pleased to find the repair and re-sole more than reasonable. So much, in fact, that I ended up buying a pair of Iron Rangers while there! A few things to consider: 1. I wore these boots every other day for four years. Four. I've worn them in the rainiest, muddiest junkyards and polished them up to officiate a good friend's wedding. That's an unreal amount of travel time for a boot. The fact that they held up and are still going strong is a testament to the craftsmanship. 2. I took them to the shop on Christmas Eve. I was greeted by an amazingly nice and pleasant gentleman named Tyler. Tyler is working Christmas Eve because he's awesome and cares about people. He also loves California burritos, something only us SoCal folks understand. The shop being open close to a holiday means a lot, and I'm fortunate to have a great store with Tyler to help me get my boots repaired. 3. Red Wing repairs boots. Repairs! Not throw away, not replace. Repairs. And free laces for life? Their repair policy is amazing: affordable to the point of me actually buying another pair of boots while I was there. Now I own two pairs of awesome, durable boots, thanks to Tyler's exceptionally knowledgeable and accommodating personality. You rock, dude! Very disappointed! These shoes were worn only for special occasions. Soles fell apart in one afternoon after their 12 month warranty. They turned to goo, marking floors and carpet with every step I took. I had to take them off during a Memorial Service I was at and walk around outside in my socks! Took them back and was offered 20% off if I bought another $150 pair of shoes (the same discount they offer other special customers). Horrible product support and service. read more

Norm, the owner of Red Wing in Santa Cruz is taking care of me and my boots. An issue came up with my boots and they tried to resolve it. The first try didn't solve the issue. I returned the boots again, then Norm offered to have the issue resolved at his expense! This is why people keep coming back to their store. Great customer service. They actually care! That's a strange thing this day and age where huge corporate companies are willing to loose customers and complacent employees have no motivation to help. We have definitely decided this is the best place to buy good work boots in town. The customer service is excellent. We were waited on by Messiah multiple times over a few days trying to get the best shoes for work and really had a hard time deciding which would be the best shoes and the right size. I sure appreciate professional, knowledgeable service. I went in to get my Fiancee and nice pair of work boots for Father's day. They're pricey - if Im going to pay that much, I expect spot-on service and thats exactly what I got. The manager really knew his product and his customer. He took 10-15 mintues to wait on me, and asked me several questions to understand my Fiancee's job and work duties before recomending a boot and insole. Have had great service in the past! Bought two pair of work boots from them over the last few years and have no problem with resoling and free laces but unfortunately lately I can't give them business if the doors are not open! I have recently stopped by around 3:30-3:45 pm, after I get off work three times and nobody there! I needed new laces and ended up buying my own. I let it go and forgot about it, today was new boot time! Looking forward to buying new boots (which my wife diligently budgeted for), I rushed down to red wings ....and nobody was there, door was locked (3:40 pm)! Seriously over it!
