In nearly the geographic centre of the Cambridge Centre- the child friendly Red Square Cafe managed to weather the Covid storm relatively unscathed. While that good news for the owners and staff, unfortunately for the consumers business as usual isn't quite what it was 18 months ago. Let me explain.
This used to be the absolute go to for breakfast/brunch with the kids on the weekend. Their breakfast menu is pretty inexpensive everything on it is only $10 until 11 am. That's pretty awesome, and definitely one of the better deals to be had anywhere. Add in a fully fenced in play area for the kids, and some pretty generous seating inside and you should have all the ingredients for a kick ass family friendly cafe. That was pre-Covid. What's emerged from the post Covid hospitality world is a shell of what it used to be. The menu has shrunk, The white staff are horribly inefficient, they don't know the menu, and the Coffee? Terrible. Ordered a long black with a side of cold milk, the milk was thick sludgy and full of grounds. My meal was tasteless and lacked seasoning, but unfortunately my partner asked for what should have been quite an easy change to her dish, and what was brought out didn't even resemble what she had asked for. It took two of the wait staff plus the cook to figure out what we meant by "meat on the side".
While Red Square used to be a destination itself, now I'd only eat there if I was already at the Cambridge Centre for something already. What a letdown. read more
