Best place for a smog check! The wait was not long at all. Calvin was awesome. He was friendly and he did a very thorough smog check. Paid in cash ($80) and got a free air freshener ! Yay! They are also open on Saturdays which is a rare! read more

Easy process, polite and efficient service, doesn't make appointments but I only had one car in front of me. $80 out the door.

Everything was fantastic...service and courtesy was outstanding. Rudy was the best, knows his job and made me feel safe!

Quick and easy, wasn't anyone else in line at 4pm so no wait and no appointment needed.

Value professional quick. They were easy to find and they had a time that suited me. Perfect. I would say you need to make a reservation.

Super fast smog with no appointment necessary. Star rated station that sent results directly to DMV.

Once again, RED SMOG saves the day! I've taken my car to RED SMOG when required by DMV for the past few times. This time, I waited until just a few days before the due date, but no problem... The friendly owner had me in and out in a jiffy, and his prices are the lowest I've found. Further discounts can often be found using ValPak coupons received in the mail or online. Five stars for RED SMOG! read more

It was a quick smog, no waiting. This is the way it should be. I'll be back when I need a another smog.

Called down and was told first come first serve. There was one car ahead of me when I got there. Took my dog for a little walk around the neighborhood and when I came back everything was done. read more

Fast, respectful, reasonably priced, zero wait. Cannot think of anything else I could want from a smog check!

Honest, knowledgeable. Didn't create fake error codes

Took my truck here despite reading a few negative comments. I can now see what others were saying. Guy tells me he had no time to look for a diagram to a hose he was unsure about. I showed him where to connect the hose . 2 seconds. And he tried to dismiss and say he didn't see it. Then when he accepted the fact the disconnected hose was indeed attachable. He then switched and said he couldn't smog me cuz he already failed me. Then switched it up yet again to say he didn't have time to look for a diagram to the hose. He had zero customers waiting and it was the end of the day. Coincidence? Hmmmm read more

No reservations needed and Calvin accepted my coupon. Fast. Efficient. Very clean shop. Will return.

I brought in a 2004 Toyota Corolla and filled out some paperwork. I was told to return in 20 minutes. The car was ready, all paperwork printed out, and the smog report sent on quickly. I will always recommend Red Smog service. Madalienne P read more

Red Smog - RED SMOG !!! Great place !! Quick service!!! - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Novato, California

See all

Quick, clean & easy - even with my 25-year old car. Wish I'd known about this place earlier!

Quick and convenient. I will use again. Price is in line with other places. Worth a look.

I visited the Ignacio/Novato location on 1/13/22 to have my 1997 Mercedes smog checked. I gave the coupon ( $46.75 coupon) to the technician and he told me my cost would be $ 80.00. He said because my vehicle was not a year 2000 and later they didn't except the coupon. No place on the coupon does it state the restriction. read more

As usual, I waited till the last minute to take care of my smog check. But with a business like Red Smog in town, taking care of it was a breeze! Quiet and efficient, the gentleman who serviced my car was amazing. A terrific business and highly recommend. read more

Quick in and out. Recommends before 11 am or after 1pm (check their hours). Pro's + Nice guy + No waiting + Dollar Store across the street (okay, it's $1.25 now) + Cheapest Smog in area (w/coupon total was $58 with smog certificate) Con's - Little hard to find (enter at 400, as soon as you turn) read more

Very quick service, very polite, a clean space and shady trees for the short time that I waited. Thank you, Red Smog!

Fantastic service! Easy in and out - had to go due to DMV deadline, and the service guy was excellent with COVID-19 physical distancing for the entire transaction. So glad to have found this place. read more

I was in and out of this place within 20min!!! Friendly even though only one person working. And he let me know of new location. Thanks! I'll recommend to others. read more

Def lived up to the reviews! In and out in 10 min, easy as pie. Easy location, no wait. Would recommend! read more

Took my wife's car in and was immediately and politely helped. The process was easy, fast, and reasonably priced. All info was sent to the DMV He printed all of my documentation If it would not have passed (a '95 Camry. It was a concern), he gives a free re-test. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a stand-up establishment that provides a no nonsense smog. read more

Very quick, easy, and no fuss! I called ahead and was told I didn't need an appointment, I could just drop by. Super convenient. Anything with cars can be a little intimidating and anxiety-provoking for me, but Calvin was very chill and the whole process was quick and painless. All the positive reviews are accurate, definitely recommend! read more

He would not retest my vehicle as he was afraid to hurt his "score" It's his job to retest for free and he wouldn't do it Be careful getting your car checked here Also very bad communication during the whole process read more

No line - nice and easy. It takes 20 minutes. I had a 1999 car. About $75. Nice person and simple. You can shop at the Dollar Store while you wait.... This has to be the easiest smog I have ever done. In the past, I have waited a really long time and called places that said they were too busy (really, is everyone getting a smog?), or they never answered the phone or they never called back. I think other places do this as a side job and that is the difference. read more

Needed to have a smog check. Called and asked if they had time to take me immediately. They did and I was in an out in 15 minutes. He even gave me the coupon discount although I had forgotten the coupon at home. Would definitely use this Smog check service. Fast, friendly, honest - what more do you need? read more

Fast, efficient, reasonably priced. Star-Certified. Calvin passed my lovely old car the first time (so no re-test, thank goodness). All the info was transmitted to DMV, so when I walked in to take care of the registration, all went smoothly. read more

Smog. Le sigh. California's emission laws are a pain. Calvin is a straight shooter and a quick tester at that. Much like I wrote in another smog station's review, there's no flash or beauty in a smog station setup. His one job is to test your car and submit the paperwork so you can register your car. If you want a flashy waiting room with a TV playing the game and a complementary cup of joe, you're asking too much. This place is good enough. You're in, you're out, you're registered. Clean, sure. Small, yep. The fish/turtle tank is a nice distraction to the, "OH MY GOD IS MY CAR GOING TO FAIL THIS TIME?! I CAN'T AFFORD THE REPAIRS..." Relax. Whatever happens, happens. Calvin is quick, professional, and efficient. Did I mention affordable? Yes, he's affordable. Call for a quote. He'll bring you in for testing ASAP. Bingo-bango-done. See you in two years, boss! *PRO-TIP* Warm up your vehicle thoroughly before testing. I don't mean run it in your driveway for ten seconds and think that's good enough. Go for a quick spin onto the freeway ramp, then back off, and straight to him. Also, if your 'check engine' light is on, it's an automatic test failure so be sure that have that addressed at your own repair shop before bringing it into him. Don't blame the guy because YOUR 'check engine' light is on. He just tests it. read more

Great experience. Easy in, easy out. 10 minutes. Guy was friendly enough, not looking to make a best friend at the Smog checkup. Professional and quick. read more

No need for an appt, just drive on up. Quick and easy! They are STAR certified (go to http://www.bar.ca.gov/pubwebquery/station/stationlist.aspx to get a list of STAR stations in your area). I have to pay more because I have an older car (pre-1996); with the smog inspection, certificate, and evap test my total was $80. It is definitely cheaper for newer cars. Only reason I didn't give five stars is the aquarium tanks inside are so neglected. I could barely see the turtle because there was so much gunk in the water, I felt bad for him. :( read more
