This restaurant has been here for years. A small. Place with only about 12 tables and 10 stools at a counter. Menu is written on a blackboard at the front of the classroom. Classic little farm style breakfast. Menu is short- just breakfast essentials. The wait staff is very friendly and efficient. Table was ready when we walked in. Seated at a four person table but was a bit cramped. Everyone liked their food. Coffee was decent. Fresh and the server kept our cups full. They did not use real cream nor fresh squeezed OJ. But at the prices they charge I am not surprised. I don't think you can get a better quality breakfast or lunch for any less. Everything was cooked perfectly. Over easy eggs were text book. My wife and I decided to try this place for the very first time after passing it numerous times through the years. I tried an assortment of different items on the menu including the corn beef hash and the biscuits and gravy. The service was remarkable and the food was great. Walked in with my girlfriend and her family looking to have some breakfast. The place is full with only one table open. So we start walking towards the table, instantly we get yelled at in a snarky rude voice by the blonde waitress. She tells us to go back in the doorway and wait for her to clear the table. So we do. 5 minutes later she finally gets around to cleaning it. Sat down she didn't come back around for another 10 minutes, took our drink orders and left. We got our drinks pretty fast but then she didn't come back to take our order. Instead she decides to clean all the dirty tables rather than putting in our order and then cleaning. So finally after another 10-15 minute wait she comes back takes our order. They hadn't changed any of the specials on their boards so everything we were planning on getting wasn't available. Food was pretty good besides the soup. Was like pulling teeth trying to get any service from this lady let alone a refill on my water. I was told she is related to the owner of the establishment but that's a bad excuse for shitty service. Hopefully this place gets some new help! read more

Where do I begin, I read very great reviews about red school café but from the beginning I walked in to the time I left I would very disappointed. The place was very empty for that place that was strongly recommended. We were not greeted at the door which we then sat ourselves and didn't get a server and until two to three minutes later. After we placed order we did receive our food quickly but never saw the server again until we tracked her down to pay for the bill. As far as the food goes it was by far the most undercooked most bland-ish food I've ever consumed in the last several years. With that being said I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

My husband and I went there on a weekday morning for breakfast and initially orded decaf coffee; we were told it was "still brewing." The "waiter" (only one waiting tables)told us he would be back to take our order. After waiting 5 minutes, we still didn't get any decaf. Another party came in; the young man serving the tables went right over to them and served them coffee. They must have asked for regular. He then proceeded to take their order and by now we had been waiting 10 minutes. Don't take another party's order when we were here first fella! We left and told him why. We headed down the road to the 45 Diner where we had excellent service! Won't ever return to Red School Cafe again. We can put up with a lot while dining out; being forgotten and having someone else's order taken when we were there first is not one of them. read more

My wife and I finally tried the Red School Café after many years of passing by. I remember when the place opened in 1972 or 1973 when I was a kid and it's still going strong. A somewhat cramped entry leads up a couple of steps into the old classroom complete with blackboards and nicely decorated. The breakfasts are plentiful befitting its rural location in Kenosha County not 1000 yards north of the Wisconsin-Illinois border. Large gravel lot which the owner apparently plows himself so there is room for whatever pulls in. It definitely has the buzz of a local hangout. If you want a nice place to relax while someone else does the cooking on a weekend then try the Little Red School Café on US Hwy 45 about three football field into the great state of Wisconsin. We've driven by so many times but usually it was closed or the parking lot was full but we finally decided to go in recently and now we know why the parking lot is full. Very small inside but the decor, that of an old school house, is charming and the food was really good. The wait staff was very friendly and it doesn't seem to matter who your waitress is, they'll all stop by and ask if there's anything you need. We'll be back! :) read more

I love the idea of the little school house diner. I took my mother here a few years ago and never went back due to the fact that it wasn't clean. The food was ok but I couldn't get past the fact that the place was so unclean. People don't mind it being old since that is the charm, but they need to keep it clean inside!
