After searching for seven years, I've found my "home". Sil is the best stylist I've experienced in Sacramento thus far! I am PICKY about who I let touch my hair. I have historically had thick, curly, healthy hair that I learned how to take care of the hard way - after many rounds of box dying in my early twenties! I have had a couple of great ones - one in my home town and one in Folsom - but no others who I ever felt 1000% confident in (or worth the $$$). I found Sil sort of by accident, and I'm so glad I did! I had been dying my hair at home for years using Madison Reed. Loved the product, my hair was not just healthy but UBER healthy. I got to a point that I wanted all over color and just could not get it right, died my hair a good 4-5 times using the same or similar colors and was so uneven. I realized I needed a color correction. Well, in today's economy, paying market price for that was not in the cards for me, but I needed something. To Paul Mitchell School I went. I did find the pricing attractive, and I also liked the idea of helping someone learn. My stylists were great, loved them both. But I ended up with a very clear and definite line of contrast between two colors on my head. I was reading reviews of Red Art and wanted to book with one stylist. She happened to be jam-packed and booked out far in advance. Sil had available slots so I looked up some reviews and snagged one. My biggest rave about Sil is her warm demeanor. I am socially awkward/neurodivergent and hair appointments are hard for me. She made me super comfortable from the start, and I've grown to like her more with each visit. She is a master with color. She turned my messy color situation into something I was so proud of! I don't care too much about my appearance, but my hair really needed some TLC, I wouldn't even ever wear it straightened because it was so bad. I got two cuts from her before booking a color. Sil not only had great service but great, fair pricing as well. She's worth every penny! My hair looks amazing and I have a little spunk back! The salon itself is nice, and clean. I like the location and have never had issues with parking or safety concerns. There are some cafes and restaurants nearby, too. Overall, highly recommend. At the referral of a good friend, I made an appointment with Kayla for a cut. When I arrived 5 minutes early for my 5:45pm appointment, I sat down in the waiting area as there was no one at the front desk. A couple minutes passed until Kayla came over and asked if I had an appointment. I said yes and indicated it was with her. She said, "Okay, I'll be with you shortly," as she was still with a client. I looked over and noticed her client had very long wet hair that went all the way down her back. Kayla then began drying her hair. I knew this was going to take a while but never imagined I would then sit there for almost a HALF hour with NO additional communication. I thought Kayla was very rude and disrespectful of my time so I left at 6:10pm. The stylists either need to learn how to multitask and make new clients feel welcome, or they need to hire a front desk person to communicate with clients to keep them informed. A little communication would have gone a long way here. Very poor customer service. read more

Starrie does it again! See my previous review for the full salon experience for someone who's thinking about going here for the first time. Let's just say this is the first time for me, that I've ever come a SECOND time to a salon to get my hair done. I wanted to get a balayage done, and I contacted her a little over a week before my appointment. She was so quick in her responses and answered all my questions about the process, including providing me a quote. As a side, their prices are not only very reasonable, but worth the care and effort in making sure your hair is the color you want and that you'll still have healthy hair after all is done. This is especially true if you have Asian hair, which is super resistant to bleaching. Anyway, the salon also gave me a reminder call the day before, which was nice. They really communicate very well with their clients! It's been a joy having my hair done with Starrie because she's so enthusiastic about her work and so fun to talk to. I did a full highlight with Kayla she ruined my hair!!save your time and money and don't go there all they want is your money I have greenish highlight and it looks awful after I paid her 350$ I asked her nicely to fix it but she refused and said I don't see green in your hair, just because she had another client. Victoria is amazing and I will be going to her for as long as she's in the area. I had been trying to go blonde for quite a bit, and became frustrated when going to another salon and the hairdresser accepted a consultation, but spent the entire time claiming my darker skin color would not suit blonde hair, and that they were booked out for the next 6 months (could have just said they weren't accepting new clients before making me come in and without the weird colorism but ok). I stupidly decided to try bleaching my hair myself after that encounter, and of course, completely botched it. The panic was very real, because it was SO BAD. Enter Victoria, who accepted a same day appointment for me, and had me in her chair until late into the night to correct the horrendous dye job I'd given myself. I left the salon with a beautiful head of blonde hair and an intense gratitude. Now I go to her exclusively any time I need a touch up. I trust her with any hair goals I have, and it also helps that she's such a thoughtful hairdresser that is super friendly and chats when her clients want to, but also respects when you'd prefer not to talk while getting your hair done. I'm in LOVE! I needed my hair touched up in time for the holidays as I let my balayage grow out (creating an awful straight blonde line). Stefanie hooked it UP! My hair is naturally black and I wasn't sure if I would get the color in one visit. I felt lucky I got the color in one session because I know going from dark to platinum is a process and requires patience or another visit to get the color. Sil is very thorough and experienced (I heard she even used to teach a course on hair color) and her coworkers I saw loved her work. Starrie was amazing and IS amazing at what she does! I had previously given myself a butchered haircut and she COMPLETELY transformed my hair! As if I never ruined it to begin with--incredible! She is also a lovely conversationalist and is very knowledgeable on technique and product knowledge. Nestled in East Sac, Red Salon is a beautiful shop for your hair care needs. Besides hair services, they also sell high end quality products. All the employees here are friendly and do a great job on their clients. I got a hair color service done by Kayla and she did amazing! I went in for a color correction situation. I had gotten a bad baylayage done somewhere else and decide to try and fix the situation myself with bleach....didn't go well. I had old purple hair dye from last year that was not coming out either. It wasn't an easy job but sil did a good job fixing it despite a few issues. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the hair dye wasn't rinsed out completely and my scalp is super itchy today. Went to shampoo and lots more dye came out. read more

I have been seeing Starrie for the past two years. The goal- get me blonde. Every appointment was 6+ hours. Last year we had an issue where I has to come in on a separate occasion after my appointment for her to fix my hair. I got my hair done again before the holidays and a few family members asked what was wrong with my hair and did I have extensions (first picture). It was so embarrassing I hadn't noticed. So anyway this year when I go in she says what are we doing today and I said I would like to see less brown (I say this every time) and then I said and I noticed that therr a huge sections of hair left completely untouched. If you could just got back in and bring up the color. Her response was it is physical impossible for me to touch every strand of hair. I said I understand that but that there were full sections untouched. While she was foiling ny hair, I noticed she was skipping huge sections of hair. Especially in the top crown area. I asked if she could go heavier in that area and she asked me why. LOL I said because I wanted it yo be less brown. She kept doing what she was doing. Finally when she starts blow drying my hair I asked" omg is mu hair darker" and she goes no of course not. Then I see on the side of my hair, there is a section on the whole side untouched and I asked " is this my grown out hair" and she goes yup. And then im like why is the front and sides so spotty. She then says "you cant nit pick what gets done" so I reminded her that I had asked her to not leave such large sections of hair undone. She said she can't do my whole hair in one session. That she does two sessions in one day for me and im like well why didn't you say so? I could've came in twice. She proceeded to say I have to compromise. Either she goes in on the front or the back. But that she cant do both. I left very unhappy and it is safe to say I will never be back. The pictures show that she didn't get the front or the back. Let me start off by saying I really want to give this place 5 stars. They were super friendly and the salon is beautiful. The service I received, I felt like she really tried. She was attentive and kind. This was my first time trying this salon because my usual stylist wasn't available. I booked last minute and they were able to offer me a slot the next day. I'm grateful. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because it's not the color I wanted. I wasn't sure until I saw my partner and he asked me if I was happy with it and I told him I'm not sure. I showed him the picture I showed the stylist and he told me objectively that's not what I got. I asked for ash brown and I got a reddish brown. I don't feel like I got what I went in for. But she was really nice. She walked me through each step, gave me some great tips, and didn't try to push their products onto me. I really appreciated the time and care she took in doing my hair. I can only speak for Kayla, who has been my stylist for almost 8 years. She is the extension queen. She is fast, efficient, and cost effective. I have had bad extensions in the past, so I know what to compare it to. Kayla does always have an assistant, which bothers some people. If you don't want two people working on your hair, then maybe this isn't the salon for you, but I always leave happy. The assistant does the extension removal and Kayla applies the hair and does the cut, and depending on how much time she has she will style. Sometimes the assistant styles. I prefer to style my own hair, so I just go in for the extensions and trim. Kayla is the only person I let touch my hair, so I travel from roseville for my appointments now. To say that I'm extremely grateful that I found Stacie at Red Salon would be an understatement! Long story short. I've had my hair colored by a previous hair dresser and absolutely hated it. I have dark brown hair naturally and wanted to start going lighter so I could eventually be blonde. Well my previous hair dresser FRIED my hair. I even told her that it would be okay for us to go in sessions but apparently she wanted me to get to my end goal as quickly as possible. Well I ended up hating my hair and kept box dying it back to dark brown for the next two years. Fast forward to when I meet Stacie! Stacie listens to me about my hair goals and is extremely honest with me when she tells me it'll take a few sessions for me to be blonde again. (Unless if I want my hair to fall out). I agree and think that's fine. Within three sessions Stacie is able to turn my blotchy uneven hair to a nice caramel bronde! :-) I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I booked this place hoping the colors would be great... But I should've definitely checked the yelp page before looking on Google.... My sister and I were scheduled for hair dying before her birthday. So this was a gift. On my end I had Victoria and I had no complaint, but when I saw my sisters outcome I was super shocked.... Im not sure if the hair stylist didn't offer her to come in two sessions, but my sister ended up with blue hair and not green. So I was disappointed and they still charged us full price for her. I made no comment at the register. Salons should alone make up for mistakes. Customers don't need to point out what was wrong with the outcome. My sister showed them a picture from Pinterest so it's unreasonable to say they didn't know what she was hoping for... I think it's fine to charge for labor, but not full price for an incorrect color. We might come back... But not certain. read more

It was ok nothing wrong with the service nothing great about it. A tad expensive for a blunt hair cut no layering or anything at $50 without tip. Same thing for the hair cut I received, the stylist talked me out of the one I picked out and I wasn't a fan of what she ended up doing instead. Pictures on the left was before, and the pictures on the right were after. after ONE session, Kayla was able to get my hair the blonde I wanted. She thoroughly explained everything she did, why she did, and even gave her opinion about what would be best for my hair. It was beneficial, as I didn't know a lot about my hair until today. Unfortunately I am unhappy with my hair. I went to Stephanie (who was super sweet, but unfortunately didn't accomplish what I went there for). I wanted platinum blond/ashy/silvery highlights through my natural brown hair color. I expressed how I hate gold/brassy/yellow/orange blond colors and wanted a silvery platinum look. The girl toned my hair to give me the silver platinum look, but in the process she bumped up my natural brown base color to a light orangish color and I now need to find someone to fix it and try to match it back to my natural brown color I had before. I hate to give a bad review like this cuz the girl was so sweet, but paying $150+ for the exact hair color I said I didn't want and now having to again shell out $150+ to get it fixed by someone else is way too costly and disappointing to not warn others about - and maybe the salon will review this and educate their stylists on how to avoid this in the future and how toning can give the wrong effect when it lifts the blond but also the brown base color to an undesirable orange. read more

I went to this salon based on the excellent yelp reviews. I wanted a balayage done, but what I got was a mess. The color came out choppy and not blended at all. I had straight streaky lines around my entire hair (refer to photos). I called the salon after I had left to tell them how unhappy I was with my color. They were very understanding and nice about the situation and told me to come back in the so they could fix it. I requested a different stylist and they agreed. The second stylist who worked on my hair was very patient and sweet, but the result was still the same. I could tell she tried her best, but now my hair is very fried from all the dyeing and I am out $230. I appreciate them trying to fix the situation for free, however I will not be coming back to this salon. read more

5 stars - Love the vibe of this place. The flaw about me is that I would have these sudden perks or ideas for last minute hair cuts or hair dos. Fortunately, Red Salon Art was able to take me + 1 for a last minute hair cut. I literally made the appointment 10 minutes beforehand. They were really accommodating and sweet. Location: Right across of the mini park on J street. It is right next to the Citizen Hotel. Ambiance: Small, friendly, and hipster type of salon. Service: Ivan was my salonist. He gave a WONDERFUL head massage when he was washing my hair. It put me to sleep *cloud 9* I wanted a blunt cut lob and that's exactly how it came out. No matter what I tell my previous salonists they would always tell me I should add some layers in, but I have thin hair and I hate hate layers. It would flare out in all types of directions and really unflattering. I am glad I found someone that would listen to me this time. Price: $50 for a hair cut, washed and styled. $20 for hair toning. I love this place!!! I don't do my hair very often and have a hard time retouching it every six weeks but every time I came here I walked out with something edgy whether it was color or cut. I like to keep my hair short either a bob or an a-line. I've had some crazy colors such as purple, blue, red, multi color, etc. I usually do a peekaboo style so I can just let us grow out until my next apt and it doesn't look bad. One thing I like about colors that Ivan has used in my hair is that it doesn't dry out my hair and lasts a very long time... Months. It usually fades by then but it doesn't look ugly.
