I came here today with my aunt who was looking to get beach waves in her long hair. Being that she was from out of town, we were initially going to go to a different salon I was more familiar with, but my usual stylist there was busy. I mentioned that there was a new salon that opened up across the street from my apartment and we decided to give it a try because there were signs for discounts outside, and it was new and shiny. New year, time to try new things, right?
Let me save you the trouble and tell you - NEVER AGAIN.
First off, my aunt specifically asked for a beach wave - brought in a picture and everything. And over and over again, they said, OH! A SPIRAL PERM! We insisted that, no, that is in fact not what we were hoping for. We wanted something like the picture she brought in. They insisted that they understood and would make it like the picture.
While my aunt was getting her hair done, one of the stylists - Asian male, a little flamboyant, didn't catch a name - said aloud for the entire salon to hear, "Oh, people hardly ever get perms anymore. They're not really very trendy right now."
And on and on for ten minutes, the stylists and other customers alike were all talking about how perms are no longer in style, while they are giving my aunt a perm no less. We shared a glance like, "They're not giving you THAT kind of perm, are they?" (spoiler alert: they did.)
The male stylist (who wasn't working with my aunt, by the way) was particularly attitudey and rude. He was actually very snide and unpleasant, and seemed to really be BS'ing everyone when they spoke up about the styles he gave them not really being what they expected. He was really only pleasant to people who stroked his ego.
Fast forward a little while - they gave my aunt a spiral perm, despite the fact that she explicitly said, NO. No tight spiral curls. Loose beach waves.
They insisted that they gave us specifically what my aunt had asked for, and that with a few washes, it would eventually become the look that she was looking for. My aunt pointed out that she had a friend who came out of a salon, immediately with the beach waves she desired, and the male know-it-all stylist asked how long it had been, because if it was loose like that right out of the salon, it surely would have straightened out by now. My aunt pointed out that it was over a month ago, and when she saw her friend yesterday, her hair still looked exactly the same.
We voiced explicitly that this was not the style we were expecting, that it was too tight, and they simply said, "Well, you can wash your hair out early," and still charged full price. Moreover, they came on so strong that it felt uncomfortable even considering refusing to pay full price for something that wasn't what was requested... so we paid, then proceeded back home to try and wash out the 1990's perm.
Please save yourselves the trouble and do not come here. To be fair, some of the ladies who work here are nice enough - one of them offered me a piece of chocolate while I was waiting for my aunt. But their work is sub-par, and they seem to have an issue with listening to what their clients ask of them.
If you are considering coming here, no. Turn around and run far, far away. read more
