Came here with a group of ladies for my wedding day. Of the 8 or 9 women who got their hair done, two were completely awful-- two little string braids connected in the back for women in our thirties. Both looks that needed to be rebranded when we got home were updos. My sister had a up do that looked good but within thirty minutes the braid started to fall flat so we had to tinker with it. As for the standard blowouts, they looked amazing! Seriously beautiful. I would stick with this place only for the standard. Otherwise, the skill level of doing uptinis seems to vary greatly from person to person . The ambiance is cool and very fun. Again, only recommend for standard blowout. read more

Aside from washing and brushing it, I don't do anything to my hair. I don't think I could, even if I wanted to! With that said, I wanted to look presentable for my friends' wedding. The reviews were good and the price was reasonable, so I made an appointment for Dry Bar 55. Usually I can be a little picky (read: annoyingly picky), but my hair turned out amazing! I asked for loose waves and Ashley (I think? Sorry!) delivered. My hair is pretty long and very thick so usually it takes forever but the whole process took about an hour from washing to blow drying to curling. If you have thinner or shorter hair, expect things to be a little quicker. I would definitely come back again next time I'm in Sacramento and would recommend this spot to friends. P.S. -The studio is located inside Studio 55 (across from Williams Sonoma in the Pavilions), a huge building that hosts a series of salons. It can be a little hard to locate because there is no actual Dry Bar 55 signage outside the building. -This is NOT a full salon or dry bar. There are 2 salon chairs in a small studio so if you're looking to book for a huge party to get your hair done at once, this is not your spot. read more

Kat was super warm and welcoming, she just has the vibe where you feel like you've known her for a while. I was in town for the weekend and found Katherine via yelp. She was such a pleasure to deal with. I initially called for an appointment and she returned my call promptly. She was also very accommodating to my limited schedule. Thanks again for taking us early on a Saturday morning. Her studio is located in the cutest shopping center. Parking was super easy. I've been here twice. I bought a Groupon for three blowouts (at a really good price -- I figured, why not). But I don't know if I'll even bother getting the third. They're really nice stylists, but I just don't think they get it. At least, not the two who've blown my hair out recently. The first time, the salon had just opened, and my hair ended up looking exactly the same as I wear it every day. I said the same things as usual when I got in (I get blowouts a lot) -- "I want it to be huge. Tons of volume! Bump the shit out of the back! You truly can't make it too big. Loose waves!) But like, it just ended up being shiny, smooth, sleek hair. My hair basically air-dries like that. I figured meh, my 'do still looks fine, maybe something was just lost in translation. I wanted to give the place a break on my first time around. But then when I went again, same thing. I even said when I walked in, "this is basically how my hair looks all the time. Let's make it really big and fun and full of volume." She agreed. And then, same result. I mean, pretty, but ... it was my everyday hair. I know I'm not asking too much here. I've had blowouts at Muse and in several other cities when I'm out of town for weddings and such. They always nail it. I have pretty easy hair. Not sure what the deal is, but I just feel like the Dry Bar girls are a little lacking. They're not doing anything terrible -- like I said, lovely people and my hair turns out fine. But when I get a blowout, I guess I just expect a little more. read more

Yelp review by Michelle S. said it better than I could but here goes... Been here twice and have one more pre-paid blowout left but won't be using it. The stylists are nice but just struggle to understand that when I ask for big volume, it doesn't mean sleek and flat with a hint of volume. During the last blowout the other stylist had to step in to finish the job. I've heard that if you get Sandra B. as the blowout stylist you're in great hands but the online scheduling doesn't provide for booking with a particular stylist. Instead, it's the luck of the draw. And maybe my draws have just been unlucky? :/ Again, nice folks but I won't be coming back. read more

I was looking for a manicure discount on groupon and saw the dry bar 55 had a groupon for 3 blowouts for $50 and having the wild hair that I have, I figured, hey! Why not pamper myself even some more. When I got there, Heather was waiting for me at the front door and I'm glad because I was a little lost at first. She's very personable, will take great care of you and make you feel beautiful. I definitely recommend this place and especially Heather, I speciffically booked my next appt when she's there. Went in to get my hair washed, dried and importantly styled because I am sick right now so I cannot even find the energy to do it for myself. The girl that helped me was very sweet and very nice however I don't understand where the styling part was? I left with hair that was still wet and not flat ironed at all... I mean I could've done all that at home easily It's be like the equivalent of hiring somebody do your laundry but when it comes out of the dryer they stuff it in a basket and hand it back to you... Running it through the machines is not the hard part, it's the folding and putting it away that sucks. I moved up to the Sacramento area a few years ago after frequenting a blow dry bar in my hometown in Southern California. I just recently discovered this place, and I am so sad it has taken me this long to get here! I came in on my 21st birthday after recently getting a lot of my hair cut off and realizing I'm completely inept at styling it now. I showed Alix a picture and she did exactly what I wanted! She was so sweet and accommodating -- encouraging me to pick out pieces that bothered me and she was absolutely meticulous about it being perfect. I have super flat, fine hair but Alix managed to get volume and perfect curls! This was the best experience I've ever had at a blow dry bar, for the most reasonable price. I came in recently for a blowout with Taylor and was really happy with the style she gave me. She took the time to figure out what I was looking for before getting to work and giving me the best shampoo of my life (seriously, just amazing). In just under 50 minutes, she even had time to give me all-around waves with a large-barrel curling iron. Taylor was laid-back and friendly and didn't make me feel rushed at all. At $35 a pop, I don't treat myself to blowouts often but will definitely return to The Dry Bar 55 next time I do! I have gotten a blowout at a larger Sacramento salon in the past and paid over $50, so their prices are actually pretty reasonable for the area. Other positives: parking is easy, the rest of the staff at Salon 55 is nice, and you can schedule appointments online. read more

SO glad I found this place! My friend had told me about it and then I saw it on Groupon. So, I purchased three blow outs. I made an appointment to go in before a charity event I was going to and was so happy with the result. I came on a Saturday, so they had mimosas (yum)! Heather did a consultation and gave me great suggestions after I described my dress. She curled my hair and put part of it back. Started coming here a little after I had my son and now I'm addicted! I don't think I'll ever straighten my own hair again. Everyone here is really friendly and does an amazing job. I like that it's a more private salon. Never more than 2 clients getting their hair done at a time. You don't feel rushed and the stylist isn't distracted. Bought a living social deal for 3 blowouts. Tried 3 different stylists- 1. Sandra, the owner, did an ok job. Not the best blow out I've ever had but not the worst. 3.5/5 stars 2. Sarah did a good job. Still not the best blowout I've ever had but pretty good. 4/5 stars 3. Kat- super nice lady. I liked talking to her the best but I didn't care for the end result of my blowout. Hair wasn't smooth and shiny looking. 2.5/5 stars I like the idea of the blow dry bar but I feel like at $35 for a blow dry and style, why just not got to your regular hairstylist ? That's the same price everyone charges... I'd go back here if they reduced the price for each blowout...I think $20-$25 is more reasonable for a blowout. I'd go for more regular blowouts at that price. I liked the ease of booking appointments online but if you do it online, you can't choose your stylist...you just get randomly assigned to someone which I didn't like. read more

Purchased a LivingSocial deal for this place. The only "blow-outs" I've ever done before have been post-haircut in nicer salons. It's always nice to walk out with shiny, smooth, touchable hair and have the effects last for a few days. Sandra (the owner) greeted me and took care of my hair while Heather the other stylist tended to another customer. The space is small and little tough to find the first time (esp. in the evening, the building was pretty deserted) but Sandra got right to work with a wash after discussing what I wanted to do with my hair and the occasion I was getting it done for. She made me a little nervous at the wash station because she was fumbling around a little and it wasn't the smoothest wash I've ever had (she sprayed water in my face on accident at one point) and tugged my hair a little more than I would have liked, but was apologetic about the spray and it wasn't a big deal. Maybe she is out of practice. Not much to write home about the blow out. Sandra made small talk and gave me some pointers about my hair when I asked questions; generally a pleasant experience. I wasn't totally thrilled with the end product of my hair, it had a little too much curl/bounce than I like for the length my hair is at right now, and she was a little heavy handed with the hairspray, but the next day it had relaxed a little and I had the typical shiny, healthy appearance I've come to expect after a blow-out, albeit a little more old-fashioned than I was going for. Go in knowing your preferences and ask for the style you like (don't be afraid to speak up like I was if you're not 100% with the end product) and I'd recommend this place! Blow-outs aren't cheap, but they're nice to get when you're in between trims and want to avoid the hassle of smoothing your own hair out for any occasion (night out, interview, event, etc.). Sacramento needed a blow-out spot so they're a welcome addition. read more
