Utah has an abundance of beautiful trails that wind in and around nature and if you've not taken…read moreadvantage of them, you're missing out. That was the thought that went through my mind this morning when I decided to hit the trail and appreciate nature. The Peak View Trailhead is in Corner Canyon and leads to multiple paths. It's easy to discover new trails or paths each time you visit. There's a parking lot and restrooms at the trail head and signage that points to various paths that you can take. I also noticed that there's an app you can download that will tell you about the different trails and give you a map so you can pick the path that appeals to you. It's sort of a "choose your own adventure" sort of thing. The paths that I found myself on today were Hyde N Seek, Hoof N Boot, and Canyon Hollow Trail. Each one was beautiful and the fall colors were magnificent. There are many more paths for me to discover-I hope you will too.

This is a pretty dirt trail. It's shady the first part of the trail, until you get higher in elevation then you won't be covered in shade. Trail is rocky, dusty, and dry right now. We need some rain. There are signs that say if the trail is muddy stay off, but you can clearly see the ruts in the trail that the bikes have made riding in the mud. There is a huge paved parking lot with a few picnic tables with covering. They even have a water faucet which I definitely used. Access to many other trails in the area. Some are for hiking only, if you don't want to keep stopping for bikers, even though the rules are stated that bikers need to yield to hikers stay on the footpaths only. Dogs are allowed below the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, but not above. This trail crosses both areas. Please follow this rule as this is our watershed. A big sized deer ran right in front of me pretty early on the trail. Lots of wild life. I also saw lots of birds, (cool hawks), lots of lizards, squirrels, and even a skunk. There is a sign at the trail head that reminds you that you are in cougar country. I didn't see any. Probably because of all the bikers. I also didn't see any snakes. Thank God. There seems to be a lot this year, or maybe there have always been, but people are just posting pictures of their snake encounters more because of social media. I thought for sure I would see one especially up by lone rock. Just because it's so rocky. All in all a pretty good hike 5.7 miles in 3.01 hrs with an elevation gain of 1,138 feet. I'm slow what can I say. *clean bathrooms available **large parking lot #leavenotrace

It is a well maintained trail using soft, tan colored dirt, so traction will not be an issue. The first half of the trail does not offer much coverage, so prepare appropriate sunblock as needed. Later you will hike a well-shaded area that is just great for water breaks and resting away from the heat. Trail is partially dog friendly and gets narrow as you head south. You will run into the watershed and want to hike on to enjoy the beautiful jagged cliffs and small canyon. However it is private property so you want be able access it.

You will occasionally see horses, so it's good to stay alert, but most of the traffic tends to be hikers. The gamble oak is especially beautiful during the autumn months, though Yellow Fork is scenic and enjoyable year-round. It's a great option if you're looking for peaceful riding and some space to yourself. Yellow Fork can also be accessed from the nearby Butterfield Canyon trail system if you're looking for alternative routes or want to extend your ride.

This is a review from my 20 mile ride on the JRT…read more I started with the intention of just riding to the gym and back... it was 5 miles door to door. This was my first ride in over a year so I should have gone home. No gloves, no padded shorts, one water bottle. I usually ride with three Liters of water. I was feeling good so pressed on with a round trip goal of 20 miles. The trail, in my area, is clean, devoid of trash or dumped garbage. Refreshing and peaceful. Very quiet. Mostly runners, mountain bikers, walkers and the occasional E Bike... maybe going faster than they should but I'm not the Park Ranger. The trail runs under the road in the trailI traveled so there is never the risk of getting hit by a car. In Vegas they have bike lanes but the road is shared and bikers are in constant danger of being hit. This JRT makes me feel safe. Along the way there are businesses in view so if you wanted to take a break or needed assistance resources were not far away. People I encountered were friendly. I saw beavers in the river and a deer. I got a vigorous workout and should have taken it easier on my first ride in a long time but it was so gorgeous out. If your curious about riding the JRT Through Draper I highly recommend it. Safe, beautiful and clean there's no reason I shouldn't get back in shape riding the JRT. Thank you for making this trail available for recreation. NOTE! If you have a road bike, I don't recommend as there are a lot of turns to maneuver.

There are some trails that you can start to wander on, and eventually find yourself at the end…read more This is likely not one of them-unless you are a long distance walker or really, REALLY dedicated to the trail. That's because this behemoth boasts 40 miles-running along the Jordan River. It's well marked and paved most of the way, so you'll have a hard time getting lost, as long as you stay on the trail. Depending on where you start your adventure, you may be able to find nearby parking. It's not so remote that you won't be able to safely ditch your car before hitting the trail. Who might you find out here? Well, for starters, there are people on foot. Lots of folks walking or running. I was also surprised to see plenty of bikers. I guess I was surprised just because the trail can be so hilly....and I have barely enough endurance to walk up the hill, slowly. Those bikers are hard core! I wouldn't think it would be good for motorized vehicles, although I did see plenty of open space that would be good for that, if it's allowed. I may see you out there some time. Or I probably won't-because even if we are both walking the trail, it's large enough that our paths may never cross.

Personally I like hiking just on the dirt trail, even though there is a very steep elevation. Because it has been so dry this trailhead is very slippery. I didn't use any poles coming up here, and thought maybe I should have to help me from slipping every which way. This is another busy, busy trail, and is narrow in parts which makes it hard to pass. There is no shade on this trail if you turn off on the BST, except if you hike all the way down to the subdivision right towards the end there is a bit of shade, but for the most part there is none. This is also a very noisy trail, and you hear traffic all the way along the trail, unless you go further up closer to Mount Olympus. There has been no parking for years except on the street, so I was glad to see that there is a small one being built right by the trailhead. **Dogs are allowed on this trail, but please pick up after them. ***No bathroom available

"What was I thinking?" That phrase went through my mind over and over again on this hike. This…read morewas hard. 1) Bring a lot of water. I went on a day that was about 90 degrees in the valley, so I thought I was prepared by taking 3 liters of water in my camelbak and then another 16 oz Gatorade. I ran out of liquid. I was sooo dehydrated by the end. I typically carry around a 40 oz hydroflask everywhere, so I do drink more water than most people... but still... be prepared. 2) Trekking poles are a good idea for this hike. Definitely not needed, but lots of people had them and I was grateful for mine. My upper body was able to take a lot of the stress off of my quads and knees. 3) Bring snacks. I ate an apple, some fruit snacks, some almonds, half a protein bar, and some Clif Shot Blocks. I also brought tuna, but didn't touch it. You're working hard for an extended period of time. You need some fuel to keep you going. 4) Head up early, if you can! It seems like this hike typically takes people 3-8 hours. I was right in the middle with being just shy of 6 hours. I did go all the way to the top and I took a few good sit down breaks. 5) Last, but definitely not least. The scramble to the top? It's hard. You are climbing up big rocks. It's fairly technical. WEAR GOOD SHOES! Leave the worn out tennis shoes at home. Wear your best, most grippy trail shoes for this. I was terrified of this scramble. Almost turned around. But I made it up, and if you take it slow on the way back down, it's not too bad. You can do it. Just be safe, smart, slow.
