We had a great experience at Red Ridge Ranch! There wasn't enough snow for the sleigh ride so we did the wagon ride. It was beautiful and so much fun. The people there are very friendly. They have 23 dogs which our boys loved to play with. We had a good time talking to the owner about the history of the ranch. She is very knowledgeable on the area and gave us a lot of interesting information. It was our first time to Wisconsin so she gave us some places to visit. We visited a few of her suggestions and they made our Wisconsin experience even more fun. We are thankful for the hospitality. *My review originally showed four stars but that was a typo. What a great place. Horses are well looked after and gentle. The ranch is beautiful and Cindy and her team are amazing.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience! We arrived right as they opened and it took some time to get a trail group settled and ready to ride. The owner pretty much blasts you with questions about your familiarity with horses, but she is spot on with matching a rider with the proper horse. In about 30 seconds, she knows exactly which of her over 100 horses to put each rider on. We were able to meet each horse going on the trail with us, not just the horse we were paired with. They also have some of the largest horses I've ever seen. This is one of the only stables I have been able to find that can accommodate a wide range of people. As a plus size person, it takes a plus size animal to carry me. I hadn't been riding in over 20 years, but it felt like I'd never quit. My son rode Flash- like the sloth from Zootopia. Very gentle horse, easy going for a first time rider, but liked to set his own speed. I was on Marty- like the zebra on Madagascar! He was a little frustrated with going at a slower pace, but behaved beautifully for this out of practice rider. Our trail guide was wonderful and knowledgeable. He made sure my son was comfortable in the saddle before we left for the trail and kept him close just in case he had trouble. We are already wanting to go back to ride again. read more

Horse people tend to be nice people. That is my experience. But sometimes they can make you feel a little foolish when you get around their animals, even if they don't mean to do so. That was not the case at Red Ridge Ranch Riding Stables. Cindy and her crew made us feel welcome and right at home the instant we set foot on the ranch. We had the trail and our guide to ourselves and our horses were gentle, the trail beautiful and our guide knowledgeable. The price was very fair ($25/hour ride per person) and we were excited to hear about all the offerings throughout the year. I'm particularly interested in the camping trips they offer where they'll meet you at a camp site with horses. They don't do riding lessons or equine therapy because they focus so much on trail rides, camps and their other experiences. I appreciate a company that can narrow its focus so that it can really deliver on the services it does provide. That's what we found here. read more

Recently, I and my little crew of minions, took a break from reality (somewhat) and headed for the Wisconsin Dells. It was a great change from seeing nothing but the inside of the house. This was our final night and we'd worn out the waterparks and go carts. My young cousin, 8 y/o, had never been on a horse before. This was her chance. Red Ridge is outside of the Dells, a 20 minute ride on the freeway. Once you get to the exit ramp, the Ranch is easy to find. I have ridden in competition for about 10 years but that was a long time ago. I was trained in the English style... here it was Western... but I quickly remembered what to do. It was great the way they chose animals that worked well together and fit the needs of the rider. I asked for a spunky horse, which I got. It would have been fun to take him off the trail and play around in a ring. The guide, I forget names, was knowledgeable and certainly put safety first. My little cousin was following him on a lead rope and he watched what she was doing, since she kept shifting to the left in the saddle. I was behind her and her mother behind me, so she had 6 eyes, not including the horses, in case something were to happen. Personally, I am very impressed by the teamwork they exhibited. The grounds are clean, parking is ample, and I must have remembered my riding days because it didn't smell bad. It was a nice, relaxing way to spend time and we all enjoyed it immensely. Just an FYI, there is a waiver that each member of your group must sign. It's not a big deal, just your standard contract. Thanks Everybody for giving us such a wonderful day! $20/each for a pony ride that consists of you leading your own child on a regular sized horse, down a 20ft driveway covered in poop! Awful. Avoid this place!! Typically we go to Woodside Ranch down the road, and woodside is AMAZING, but they didnt have ponies out today. And my 2 yr old daughter wanted a pony ride. Red ridge was only open for reservations, so i made a reservation for a pony ride at 1130am. Cindy the owner stated she had a little bit bigger PONY available. I said thats fine. When we arrived Cindy was shoveling, me and my 2 kids standing there for over 5 min before she said are you here for the pony ride? I said yes. Meanwhile the entire time were standing there my daughter was freaking out because Cindy had her dogs running around, my daughter is scared of dogs. Another 5-10 min go by and she comes out with this regular sized horse! Not a pony at all! My daughter still screaming from the dogs being out, she told me here sign this waiver, i did. Said itll be $20. Paid for it. Took me awhile to get my daughter on this horse because she was scared of the dogs, and scared of how big the horse was. Cindy just look annoyed. Never offered to put the dogs away, or try and make my daughter feel better, she just stood there, not saying a word!! My daughter finally got on. Again, this was NOT a pony. It was a regular sized horse! Cindy then told my 8 year old son who is inexperienced with horses to grab the lead rope and just walk down to the gate. He did. Im on crutches from knee surgery so i cant help him.. And then Cindy goes back to shoveling!! We're standing by the gate like WTF?!! I thought Cindy was going to be leading this horse around with my daughter on it in a pasture! Not my 8 year old son doing her job, down a 20foot driveway that was covered in horse poop! Looking at her "pastures" they were a good 3 ft deep of poop! No grass! So i know why we weren't in a pasture now. So while waiting at the gate, watching Cindy just shoveling, im mad as hell! I cant lead this horse on crutches, my son doesnt know what hes doing, my daughter is only 2 and is scared on that big horse, so i told my son walk back down the driveway towards Cindy. The horse got excited seeing food the other horses were eating, the horse started walking faster, my son got scared and let go of the horse, so I had to grab my daughter off quickly before the horse took off with her on it. I dropped my crutches right in the driveway that was covered in poop while trying to grab my daughter. Hurt my knee more. Cindy just comes walking over, not saying a word as im picking my crutches up outta the poop. So I told my kids lets go! She didnt say are you okay? Do you want a refund? Nothing. She Just walked away after i said lets go. We were on the horse for about 5min. Not even. Absolutely ridiculous!! 20 dollars for what?! For my son to do your job, walking in poop, and you not care that my daughter was scared of your dogs, or of the regular sized horse you gave her that was supposed to be a pony?! Go to WOODSIDE RANCH DOWN THE ROAD!!! 100x better! Cleaner! Amazing staff! And they take care of their horses! read more

We really loved our horseback riding experience at this ranch. We went on the advanced horseback riding trail. It allowed us to do more than just walk with the horses. We were able to have the horses run and canter. We really enjoyed it. My husband has only rode a horse a couple times in his life and it was mostly when he was younger. He felt very comfortable doing the advance ride even though he is at beginner level. The staff were all very friendly and the horses seem to be well taken care of. We decided to buy treats for the horses and the horses loved it. Definitely come visit this ranch as they have activities all year round and so much to do. read more

This was a nice family owned farm about half an hour from the dells. My girls and I went horseback riding in the Dells a couple years ago and had a great time and liked the scenery. So we thought we would try a new place to get a new view. It is not a commercialized experience here. My girls appreciated the farm atmosphere and took full advantage of petting the cats, dogs, ponies and anything else that came looking for attention. The staff made sure to size the correct horse to each person. Plan for the experience to take some extra time as the crew needs to saddle the horses and whatnot. We were there for about 2 hours for the 1 hour ride. The trail was dusty the day we went since hadn't rained all week. The trail goes through the woods and along the side of the field. No big cliffs or anything to worry about, but not as scenic as the dells ride. If you are nervous about drop-offs, this would be the place to go. read more

We weren't greeted when we arrived on the farm, which hello, it's basic customer service!! We stood around for 5-10 minutes before someone tended to us. While we were waiting for staff to saddle up the horses, the older lady (I think she's the owner) punted one of the barn kittens like a football to get it out of her way. Who the hell does that?? What a great experience for our family ages 4 to 74. Cindy and her crew know their horses so well and matched us so very quickly. Our 6 year old started out crying and, tethered to our jovial guide Jacob, ended the experience so very proud of himself AND his 4 year old brother wants to be with the leader next time instead of riding double with his dad. Our 16 year old never been on a horse thought her's was the best of the bunch. When asked to hold two horses at the end of the ride she was fine. It took 4 people to get our oldest member into the saddle but everyone was both kind and helpful. Such a great day. read more

0/10 would recommend this place to tourists visiting the Dells area. Upon arriving, the woman who appeared to run the place came up to my friend and I and pressured us into buying a bag of horse treats. This was ironic, as it appeared that some of the horses were very malnourished as their ribs were showing. We weren't given any information about riding horses other than to keep our hands on the steer. Thankfully, we'd ridden horses before, but there were younger children on our trail ride who hadn't and who received no instruction. Our trail guide was a young man who appeared to be about 15 years old. Child labor much??? He was perfectly friendly, but we wish he would've talked a bit more throughout the ride. After our ride, the same woman hounded us for our emails and told us to "leave a good review." Sus. Also, the older man working here gave off creepy vibes. Would not recommend. read more

We had a great experience with Jackie as our leader on a trail ride for two adults and one child. One adult had not ridden a horse in over 7 years and Jackie was very encouraging. Another in the group was taking her very first trail ride on her own as a 7-year-old! Jackie could not have been more professional and horses were very quiet and gentle. I took my 2 daughters who don't have any riding experience for a trail ride and it was awesome! My youngest (13) was very nervous once she got on but Jackie had her ride right next to her and took the time to explain things and make sure she was comfortable. At the end of the ride she didn't want to leave! Everyone who works there seem like down to earth good people who really care about the animals and want all of us to enjoy our time at the ranch. Took the kids to ride the horses. It was spring and very muddy. They have some very used and worn helmets for the kids to use but they are very used and appear to live outdoors in the helmet racks. The horses are gentle and friendly just like the staff. At first glance I was a bit uncertain about the place because it was so muddy with poop, chickens and barn cats at every turn and the fields with horses were nothing but mud. But, we were at a barn in the spring and such should be expected I suppose. We had fun and the guide was great. I would go again. read more

Nice trail with a great river view and interesting historical facts. The guide was very conversational and friendly. There was a nice variety of breeds and sizes making it great for both kids and adults. We went here on our honeymoon and it was very peaceful and we got to have the trail to ourselves (with a guide). The horses were very well trained and well behaved making it easy even for a beginner who has never ridden before. I really never write bad reviews but this place was not it. My family visited Red Ridge Ranch for my little sister to go horse back riding. From the start we didn't get a hello or even a welcome. The blonde older woman was rude. She didn't ask what we were here for or anything she just handed me a waiver to fill out. After that I told her we were here for the pony rides and she said we could pick a pony by the farm so we went to look inside. When my sister picked her pony we were told she couldn't have that one and she brought a bigger one. When my mom asked why we couldn't get a small one she literally yelled at her face and said " THIS IS A PONY RIDE WE CAN GIVE YOU ANY HORSES WE WANT". It was very unprofessional and frequently a disgusting attitude. We would've left but I had paid for a pony ride already. When the ride started she handed me the rope and told me I had to guide it and when I asked her if she could she said she was busy watering the plants. The reason I'm giving this place a 2 stars is because of the other employees who kept checking in on us if we needed help. read more
