I have been to this place for so many years! First of all, their sushi and rolls are delicious! My favorite is the spicy shrimp crunch roll, which is filled with fresh and cooked shrimp chopped into tiny pieces! I would also recommend the Coconut Chowder, one of their best soups that smells nice and tastes delicious! Entree wise, I would definitely order their King of the Sea. Not only does it look gorgeous, it also made tasting food heavenly. The Hibachi side of the restaurant seems very interesting! You get to talk and converse with the chef and even play a little game! My little cousins and sibiling love Hibachi performances so much! Unlike other Asian places, Red Plum has amazing customer service! Their female manager, May, is very friendly and understanding. She is always trying to find the root of the problem and resolves it in a timely manner! This is my favorite restaurant! The food is great, and the appetizers are awesome. The appetizers are like a poor man's Nobu. The fluke (usuzukuri) appetizer is sweet and delicious. The sushi is good. The entrees, especially the sea bass, are fantastic, and affordable. The best part of this place is that prices are reasonable. Any patron can immeidately tell that Red Plum is just an extension of it's next door neighbor. The hostess didn't smile, the waiters and waitresses for the most part are indifferent (with one exception), the food is more expensive than Haiku or the substantially better Ginban down the street. The food (we had a variety of rolls, sushi, general Tao, seaweed salad and other dishes over a number of visits) was good, but not great and pricey for where and what it is. You get squeezed in and given the food as if they are doing you a favor. I have to agree with Melissa that Ginban is head and hands better than Red Plum. We've taken our business there. read more

We have eaten here many times, and at Toyo before they merged. The sushi is always fresh and they have an excellent menu with lots of special rolls. Service is adequate but not exceptional. My only problem is the noise level. The music is blasting and when it is crowded, which it often is, it is so loud inside that normal conversation is nearly impossible. I had never been here before last night, but I am so glad I did! At 6:30 on a saturday night the place was buzzing yet they sat us immediately. The waitress, I think her name was Iya? Ira? She gave us wet naps to wipe our hands before we ordered. She was very nice and was always around if we needed her. I ordered the Thai Basil fried rice which was pretty good! They were about to close, so I called them asking where my delivery was, and they said it was on it's way. Always a favorite but was horrified by tonight's service. It was like watching my mom make scrambled eggs, routine and boring. I could have ordered takeout , probably spent a whole lot less. My son was so disappointed because he loves the showmanship and fun of interactive dining. Even trying to get chopsticks, it was like we were a bother, an oddity who shouldn't have been there. I did something I have never ever EVER done. I left a bare minimum tip I then went to the manager on the way out and said that it was honestly the worst experience. That they should have turned us away, rather than treat us like lepers. I know this may sound trivial, but my son was heartbroken. He had been waiting all summer (I kept having to cancel) Maybe Red Plum should hang up it's Hibachi apron and focus on what it does better, which seems to be Sushi.
