Last Spring they were very accommodating when we needed a tree removed in a short time frame, and completed the job quickly and professionally. Recently, we had them out again to do a very large job involving removing many huge oak trees that were dangerously close to our home. Chris, one of the owners, was always easy to contact and communicate with before and during the job. He and his crew carefully and professionally removed the trees and cleaned each area. Seldom does one meet a contractor, in this case, an arborist, who was as knowledgeable and helpful as Stephen was; his crew did an impeccable job in removing a huge white pine and it's stump, as well as grinding another stump in a tight spot. Stephen also provided me with ideas for new plantings and his scope and knowledge of trees is second to none. This is the most unprofessional company I have dealt with in a very long time. An appointment was made to remove wood from a tree that had been cut down and to cut down another tree. A deal was made with regard to cost. After the fact, we thought about doing another tree but their price was so high that we went with another company, but kept Red Oak for the original service agreed upon. Today I get a call stating that their minimum is $500 and because the original agreement was for $300, they were now refusing to do the job unless we added more work. This was after an initial call today confirming the job. We waited approximately 2 months for this appointment only to have it cancelled the day before after trying to exhort more work and money out of us. I find this to be not only unprofessional but unethical. read more

These guys came out and rescued a cat in a tree and did not ask for money! This was the ONLY company that returned my call and would even consider coming out. NO ONE works for free so don't everyone start calling these guys for ridiculous favors and cat rescues! I'm just sayin' they were considerate enough to set a time, actually show up and then bring down a cat down that was stuck very high in a tree. To make it worth their while, I inquired about their tree trimming and removal prices since they were here. I was provided an EXCEPTIONAL quote for 3-trees! They called to confirm an appointment on the day before they were scheduled to arrive, and when told that we didn't want to do all the work in the estimate, they made up a story about a series of sudden tree emergencies that would prevent them from coming to us -- and moreover, these emergencies made it unlikely that they'd be able to do the work for us at all. Steve at Red Oak Tree Service did not live up to his reputation planting shrubs and landscaping my front yard. He did not order enough gravel and rocks and promised to come back with more to fill in the gaps. He never did. A shrub they planted died. He said he would replace it. He never did. Once Steve is paid in full, you are at his mercy. He does not stand by his work is his promises. If you decide to hire him, hold back some money just in case he needs to return. Otherwise you will be out of luck. read more
