I had an extremely disappointing experience with April Cummings as our real estate agent/property manager.
We rented a beautiful home through her and had a one-year lease. At no point did we receive clear notice that we were expected to move out at the end of the lease. We have a family with my husband and two small children, so being told that we had approximately two weeks to leave put us in an extremely stressful and difficult situation.
April later claimed that she had notified us prior to our move-out date by text message. We never received that text message. Had we actually received proper notice, we would have had the opportunity to make arrangements and find another home without being put in such a difficult position.
When we explained that we had never received the alleged notification and needed adequate time to find housing, she offered us a home in Henderson. That was not a reasonable option for our family because we live in Boulder City and our oldest child attends school here. We declined.
We were then pressured to leave on an extremely short timeline. We explained that we needed 30 days to properly secure housing for our family. Ultimately, we were granted the 30 days, but the situation should never have reached this point.
There were also concerns regarding the condition review of the property. We invited April into our home so that she could review the property, but she stated that she had multiple vision issues and was unable to properly perform the inspection/review. I understand that people can have personal limitations, but the responsibilities of managing the property still needed to be properly handled.
What makes this situation even more disappointing is that the homeowners were also treated poorly throughout this process. They were kind people who wanted to move back into their beautiful home that we had been fortunate enough to live in. We had a very positive relationship with them, and in my opinion, they deserved much better communication and representation from the person handling their property.
The homeowners should not have been put in an uncomfortable position, and neither should our family have been. With better communication and proper management, this entire transition could have been handled respectfully and professionally for everyone involved.
Overall, the lack of communication, the alleged notice that we never received, the extremely short notice we were given, and the way the situation was handled left our family scrambling to find housing.
As a real estate professional, I believe tenants and homeowners deserve clear communication, proper documentation, professionalism, and competent handling of important lease matters. Our experience with April Cummings did not meet those expectations.
I would strongly encourage anyone considering renting or managing a property through her to keep careful records, communicate in writing, and make sure all lease terms and move-out expectations are clearly documented.
Based on our experience, I would not recommend her services. read more
