One small suggestion I would have preferred high level updates of where we are during root canal. However Dr Slykhous did a good job explaining afterwards and even showed me the updated x-ray which was nice. They place a temporary sealant which doesn't feel secure but seemed to be standard and they said can last up to 3 weeks. I'm satisfied with the work however the pricing is on the expensive side even with insurance so the value doesn't match the cost. Also they charge for an evaluation. Hopefully I won't need their services again as the cost would likely prevent me from returning.

They had the latest in equipment. I started off with a CT scan to get a 3D image of my teeth along with digital x-rays of my teeth. Dr. Kerr was fast and efficient. Before I knew it it was all over. The only pain I felt was the initial injections of lidocaine before my mouth went numb. The office staff was nice and friendly. We ended up talking about foreign travel and how one of their friends caught the last plane back to America before the pandemic restricted all flights. They were part of my in-network dental insurance and charged a fair price for a root canal according to the software our company gave us to determine fair pricing for our zip code.

After a time we decided that as much as we liked him, we needed to find something closer so we didn't lose a day each time we needed out teeth cleaned, or in case of emergencies. Ocotillo was considered because of their stellar reviews, so I set up appointments for my wife and daughter to get their teeth cleaned. They were my Guinee pigs before I went there myself. :-) They reported back to me that the girl at the front desk argued with my wife that she needed to have my daughters payment run through the insurance company even though my daughter wasn't covered as such and my wife was totally willing to pay cash. As soon as my wife finally gave in out of frustration and told her to give it a shot the girl acted all offended and said she couldn't do that as it is considered insurance fraud. This is what my wife had been trying to tell her so she was very confused. The girl then got into a dispute with my daughter over her age, refusing to believe her when she said she was 22. Not really sure what that was about. As soon as my wife went in, the dentist looked at the x-rays and without even looking into her mouth began telling her she needed a deep cleaning, crowns replaced, implants done etc etc. Our other dentist was REALLY good, and never tried to upsell us for things we didn't need. He even yanked her chain about doing cosmetic work she told him in no uncertain terms she wasn't interested in, asking her when he could get started. She was not happy. So I cancelled the follow up appointment she made as they told her they didn't have time to do all the necessary work that day and made an appointment with our previous dentist for a second opinion. If he says she needs that work done then fine, but as she goes to the dentist on a regular basis I would be shocked to find out that in the six months since her last visit her teeth have staged a revolt and need to be subdued to the tune of thousands of dollars.

After leaving voice mail messages early July with no return calls, I worked up the nerve to drive by to see if they were still open. I thought that might be the case because the voice mail referred to Memorial Day which I found odd. I stopped in on TUESDAY July 6th, they were open, Taylor said Marie & Desiree were no longer there, but said she could get me in TOMORROW. She asked if I wanted a card & I said no, I was putting it in my calendar, but because I had bi-lateral hip replacements I needed a presciption for antibiotics prior to appt & it was going to be really tricky trying to get it filled so quickly. She gave me a prescription, I scrambled to get it filled so quickly, took pills the hour before my appt time, showed up for the appt, office was closed. Called 3 times before Taylor answered, she ARGUED with me that she tried to give me an appt card, she had it in the trash and it said the 8th, not the 7th. I guess the word TOMORROW doesn't mean what I thought it meant. I was angry because I took an antibiotic for no reason, I was not swearing, but she said I disrespectED her. I was so upset I re-scheduled for 2 wks later. I showed up, and Taylor tried to make a joke that she was surprised I showed up because she didn't think I wanted to see her again. Not wrong. My cleaning was with McKenzie who was also new, she was sweet but water was going down my throat & I had to sit up to cough up water at one point. I didn't feel like I got a great cleaning but just wanted to get out. Dr Roper did a quick look, did not address the tooth I was worried about, pushed for me to get a mouth guard & rushed out. While still in the chair, McKenzie offered to schedule my next cleaning. She actually said "Six months would bring us to JANUARY 31ST, but we might be closed because of NEW YEARS EVE." I was shocked & slightly insulted, but I kindly told her she was off a month. She put an appt card in the normal dental goody bag. Taylor was not at the desk as I was leaving but I just wanted to get out of there & left. As I was driving home, Taylor called & said I failed to make my payment. I stopped back in later that afternoon. She said I did not give my insurance information, and I told her she had made a copy of my card back on the 6th. She looked & said she did have that. I showed her my appt card, and asked what date does this say? It showed 1/3/22. She read it to me as ONE THREE TWENTY TWO. I asked what date am I scheduled for? She said one THIRTY one. I said to cancel whatever appt I had & to have the Dr call me. Angela the manager called me, then Taylor who apologized saying she didn't realize how upset she made me. I asked for referrals to another office. To this date, I have not recieved any referrals or a call from Dr Roper. Dr Scheerhorn & Marie are no longer there, and this is definitely not the attention to detail that I have been accustomed to & a faithful patient of this practice, and have recommended in the past. Sad and extremely disappointed.

Despite their pleasant demeanor, their dentists lack experience (QC location) - having obtained their licenses only two to three years ago which significantly impacts their competence. They recommended an unsuitable type of veneer for my teeth, despite knowing I grind my teeth at night, which led to the first set cracking. As a result, I had to pay again to replace them - they felt they did nothing wrong. I equate this experience to owning a car that is mainly driven in the snow. What kind of tires would you expect the tire shop recommend and install on your car? All season, snow, track, etc.? Qualified dentists should take into account your current situation, especially when you talk to them about it almost every visit. I didn't know there were different types of veneers, but they definitely did. However, the first Martin Dental dentist that did my veneers apparently wasn't trained on how to do the type I needed, so instead, they just gave me the standard veneers. I would have gladly paid more ONCE and had the proper veneers placed, than go through what I had to go through. It was absolutely horrible and at not be dramatic, but I have nightmares about the pain and 27 different visits I had to go through to get everything back to normal. And... guess what... the issues were never resolved, so I had to move on. I have since switched to a much more experienced and qualified dentist that actually cares about the end result instead of how much money they can steal from you. This new dentist fixed the mess that Martin Dental made and I would caution others to carefully consider their options before choosing this practice, as patients WILL bear the financial burden of ALL errors Martin Dental makes, which will be many.
