Finally got to try Red Light Chicken in Lincoln Park after having it on my list forever, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. When you walk in, it's a small shack-style setup super simple, quick, and easy to order. The menu is as straightforward as it gets: a chicken sandwich, fries, and an eight-piece nugget with a drink. No overthinking needed. I went with the chicken sandwich (got it hot) which comes with mayo, pickles, and lettuce, plus the eight-piece nuggets and a drink. My total came out to exactly $20, which felt totally fair given the quality. They also have free condiments: ranch, honey mustard, BBQ, ketchup and you can take as much as you want, which is always a win. We ate outside, and even though the spot is small, they've got a surprising amount of seating: a standing counter area and another section with tables on the side. Super easy to grab a seat and enjoy your food. The chicken sandwich was phenomenal genuinely one of the best I've ever had. Great heat, great flavor, super high-quality chicken. The nuggets were also awesome and a huge portion... definitely more than eight. Tons of food and a great value overall. Red Light Chicken is 100% the real deal and a must-try chicken spot in Chicago. Unique setup, amazing food, great experience.

There's something really special about Red Light Chicken. The really reasonable prices, friendly service, and REALLY high quality food is exactly the kind of thing that keeps me coming back for more. The nuggets are juicy, crispy, and fried to perfection. When dipped in their signature sauce it's the perfect bite. The truffle fries are also amazing, probably some of my favorite in the city so far. Definitely worth a visit. You won't regret it!

Thought this would be the best chicken sandwich and I came starving. But I feel as though I missed something. I got a hot and honey but it was barely sweet, and I don't have a sweet tooth. Definitely had a hot sauce spice to it, like tabasco-vinegary! The mayo made it wet, but the chicken itself wasn't juicy, and it just felt like a chunk of breast. The small piece of chicken sticking out of the sandwich was crispy, the rest not so much. I don't get the love.

This is it! This is the spot. Red Light makes a solid fried chicken sandwich that hits it out of the park. It's not fussy, it's not overdone, it's just simply a great sandwich. The fries are also excellent though I'm privy to shoestring fries. All in all, this place is great!

A fried chicken shack offering three menu items?! I never thought I'd see the day and I am so happy I have. Red Light Chicken is a quick, over the counter shack offering fried chicken sandwiches dipped in plain, hot, honey, or hot honey, chicken nuggets and shoestring fries. Everything was delicious! Hence the five stars. The chicken was fresh and well seasoned. Even the bun was fresh with the perfect meat to bun ratio. I could've easily housed two more myself they are that good. The fries give me McDonald's vibes in all the best ways; thin, crispy and fresh. The service was quick with an easy ordering process. Place your order at counter and wait for your number to be called. There are two tall standing type tables otherwise this is a grab and go or eat while standing joint. Worth the visit.

Delicious chicken sandwiches with fast, thoughtful service! Probably top in the city. I got the hot and honey with some regular fries and I highly recommend. Note that the 'hot' is some sort of tabasco style heat. My usual will probably become just the honey, as I'm not usually drawn to spicy food anyway. The service is super fast, kind, and thoughtful. When I wanted some water the server (possibly owner?) just gave me some bottled water which was appreciated (I rarely see this but strongly believe water should always be free). When throwing trash out they proactively asked if we wanted some wet wipes. Just really thoughtful and straightforward service that seems to take pride in what they do and care about their customers.

I passed this place walking to the movie theater on Webster the other day and was immediately drawn in with their cute and simple neon chicken sign. The food did not fail me- I got the hot honey chicken, was the perfect amount of spice and the meat was DELICIOUS. fries were great as well! Walked home with it and it was delicious even after the commute home. Cant wait to eat this again! Definitely a new local fav in Lincoln Park!! read more

Super excited we found this hidden gem! This is now our favorite chicken sandwich place and will be back for sure (update: already went back few days later). We ordered: Hot & Honey chicken sandwich, Honey chicken sandwich, Chicken nuggets and Truffle fries. Everything was perfectly made! The chicken was crispy and juicy and the truffle fries were nicely seasoned. All are perfect match when pairing with Tony's spicy mayo (a must try so ask for some when you are there). Beyond the fact that the chicken was delicious, they use organic and cage free meat which is another great bonus. This place also has great service and vibe. I went in for a Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich and Fries at 12:59 p.m. and unfortunately, when I got home to eat and bit into my sandwich, it was still a tad raw in the inside, it was red/pink, and I could not continue eating it out of disgust so I unfortunately had to throw it out. This is my absolute favorite chicken sandwich restaurant, but I am extremely disappointed today. It's a good thing I ordered fries since otherwise my entire meal would have been discarded. read more

Ahh! This used to be Devil Dawgs remember that? This is from the same owner's of Big & Littles. I haven't been there yet, I know I'm terrible. The menu is highly short. The sandwiches were AMAZING! They fry them in a healthier oil so it doesn't cause stomach issues and it feels light, unlike Chick Fil A. It is also reasonably priced. The owner was super friendly and funny too, he took the time to ask us how the food was, give a history about the place and how he made the chicken too! 10/10 highly recommend. Wow. Not often am I blown away by fried food, but this place is next level. The truffle fries might be the best fry I've ever had. The only downside its to go only. A fry right of the bag was mind blowing, but by the time I was home, still great, but not right out the fryer. Nuggets were good. Hot and honey chicken sandwich was an elevated Chic Fil A. Fast and delicious chicken joint. Very simple and straightforward menu - fried chicken sandwich or chicken nuggets. Chicken sandwich can be made hot, honey or both. The truffle fries are a must. Staff is welcoming and friendly. They have Crush soda available which is a big plus. I didn't have to wait long (credit to the simple menu) and they throw in some chipotle mayo. This place is an absolute GEM. So delicious. Simple but outstand menu. All these five star reviews are well earned. The first time we went, made the mistake of just ordering 2 fries for 3 people. Immediately corrected course but somehow ate 4 orders for the 3 of us. Chicken sandwiches are perfection too. Juicy chicken, awesome pickles, just the right seasoning. THE BEST CHICKEN SANDWICH IN CHICAGO. And I am a tough grader. To top it off, the owners and staff could not be more personable and delightful. read more

hole in the wall GEM!!! we walked in bc of the reviews and they did NOT disappoint. i got a hot + honey chicken sandwich, nuggets, and fries. everything was pristine. the fries were piping hot, crunchy, and soft in the middle with the perfect amount of salt. the nuggets were honestly massive--the breading was crunchy and flavorful, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. same with the sandwich; breading and chicken were both perfect, and the sauce was really balanced with sweetness and spice. honestly not sure why there isn't a huge line outside this place at all times. chick fil a would be a thing of the past for me if i lived in Lincoln Park. read more

This chicken keeps me up at night. It taunts me in my dreams. The menu is crispy nuggs, chicken sandwich and fresh shoe string fries (get the truffle fries if you wanna experience nirvana). It's bang for your buck and honestly one of the most kickass spots I've been to for the quality. This place is incredible! A simple menu that will knock your socks off. The owner was super helpful and told us about the history of the spot and the best thing to get is the chicken sandwich hot & honey. Food was served within 3 minutes and they had a nice outdoor standing bar to eat at with heat lamps. Will definitely be back! read more

Happy to have red light in the neighborhood. Years of hot dogs at the same location and now a great sandwich. Juicy crisp and fresh. My wife gets the spices sauce and I get light honey. I'm hooked. Really great quality no-frills chicken spot. The menu is simple but everything is executed perfectly. The chicken was super juicy and fresh and the fries were perfectly cooked and salted. Solid chicken sandwich and nice fresh hot shoestring fries. Overall, it was satisfying. I had the hot and found it to be more tangy than hot. I wish it was a little more interesting than a typical tabasco/buffalo flavor, so I feel like the hot honey is where it's at. The fries were quite good as they were made fresh and honestly reminiscent of McD's classic fries (in the best way) :) Solid selection of soft drinks and friendly staff. read more

Being from the suburbs traveling downtown can be an experience. This particular experience made our day. Moving our daughter into DePaul we came upon the owner of Red Light chicken who gave us a few pointers in parking near his establishment, after taking the time to help us find a spot he happily welcomed us with a free chicken sandwich which I'm happy to report was delicious. Luckily I had a discount and was able to try it most of the sides. It was french fries the mashed potatoes and the ethnic Mexican elote for corn on a stick with chili butter and Mayonnaise which I heard of and seen but never tried until now. Anyways starting with the mashed potatoes they were delicious. They were not too thick and texture nor was it too whipped. It was just right as well as the gravy that they use which is not too salty. The french fries had the right texture and crisp as well as the season that went well with it it wasn't too soggy and it wasn't too bland. The Mexican elote which I was surprised as a comedian named Leon Rogers mentioned about this Hispanic treat and I just didn't imagine chili powder with mayo on corn but now I taste the difference it is a wow delicious. As for the tune styles of cooking chicken between El jefe and crazy Chico I went for the crazy Chico. This one is Brian's in herbs. It was ok. A healthy choice to eat for dinner versus eating fried chicken but it was fresh but I didn't taste the wow it's not bad but it was not a wow good. When I come back next time I'm going to have to try the El jefe version and it comes in two different sizes I went for the quarter order. Service e was very friendly as I was the co-workers guest. As for the ambience it was very casual and minimal that's the way My co worker husband wanted it because they could focus on specialties versus having so many things in the menu and then lack the best of what to deliver. So far 4 out of 5 stars but will be coming back.

The sheer SIZE of these things, and they are fried to perfection. One sandwich is enough to fill you which I appreciate. The pickles that they use too are thick cut and balance with the chicken well. The more pickles the better!! What is new: these fried chicken wraps. OMG. I don't want to compare them to a mcdonalds snackwrap because that would be offensive to Budlong.... because the ones BL makes are just out of this world. As expected, the chicken size is great, it actually fills the wrap. I ended up ordering both the hot honey and the bbq. Both were awesome I just wish I got something with a little more spice. But I still will be ordering these again! I also tried the fried pickles for the first time which were great! I just wish they used dill pickles instead of bread+butter (I assumed they used this?) because they were a bit too sweet for me. But if you like bread and butter pickles you will love these. Next time I go I neeeeeed to try their plant based nuggets. I'm not vegan, but I LOVE vegan foods, and think more restaurants need to follow suit! Also on my list is the Peach Hand Pie and the Banana Pudding... I think that speaks for itself If you haven't been into Budlong - WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!! The food and service were exceptional! Patrick, the owner, is such a kind, generous man who makes every customer feel like a neighborhood friend. Red Light is the perfect quick stop place for a high quality chicken sandwich. It's a hidden gem in the heart of Lincoln Park. I got the hot and honey sandwich with mayo and pickles and it melts in your mouth with every bite. The truffle fries were a phenomenal addition. There is a small space outside with tables and heat lamps to enjoy your meal during any season. A must try!! read more

Grabbed 2 chicken sandwiches, the chicken nuggets, and an order of fries from here a week ago. Small little place in a nice neighborhood. Menu is simple, so you won't be stuck making too many choices. Food was absolutely incredible. I like it more than chick-fil-a. I'm not a spicy food person and I had the Hot and Honey sandwich.
