I probably called over a dozen tint shops in the San Gabriel Valley looking for something very specific: a film that gives you all the UV and IR protection, but with a no-tint, clear-sky feel. Slightly blue-toned, high-VLT, nothing dark. Most places had stopped carrying it due to low demand. Everyone's chasing that 35% VLT look, but I want my cabin bright, like a sunny day, just without the sunburn. Minus $20 because he was 20 min late due to traffic that was a nice touch lol. The tinted windows helped out a lot for the summer heat. He recommended 50% tint for the front. I think he mentioned it's still technically illegal and police can pull you over, because you are not supposed to have any tint in the front, but that it would look kind of strange if only the back are very tinted and the front sides not at all. The guy is super busy, had to make appointment half a month in advance but definitely much better value than the others that I asked quotes from that all asked for $800 or above for similar materials. I usually take my cars to my regular tint shop over the years. But, the tint shop owner is out of the country for his son's wedding. Therefore, I decided to take my new car to Red Island Pro Tint located in Rosemead, CA after reading various reviews on Yelp. I have waited more than five (5) days later to write subject review given I was advised if any air bubble were to show in the tint, the air bubbles would vanish in five (5) days. The good news is no air bubble appears on the tint on my windshield. The quality of the tint is exceptional and timely. PROS: - Sean, the owner was very knowledgeable and patient in explaining the various types of tint materials to make the correct selection simple for his customers. - Average wait time is 1 hour & 30 minutes to tint my SUV's windshield, but Sean got my windshield on the SUV done without compromising the quality of the tint job in approximately 1 hour. - the staff was friendly and equally knowledgeable a team effort in tinting my car. - no air bubbles appear on the tint - the heat is reduced significantly driving on hot sunny days (interior of the car no longer feels like a dry sauna anymore by having the windshield tinted. My other windows have factory tints and the front passenger and driver windows were already tinted by my regular tint shop a few months ago when the new car was purchased. I had called in a week prior to getting serviced here. I had called earlier and gotten a quote but never went through with it but kept calling other shops to get quotes. There was another shop that I have gone to in the past, which I have never had issues with, but Red Island offered a couple more options, with similar prices. After scheduling for a Tuesday morning, I showed up at 10, I got there right as they opened and had no issues with parking, but there were not many spots and they were pretty much all taken by the time I left my car there for service. Shouldn't be an issue with an appointment. When I go to Red Island, I spoke to a woman at the desk who found my appointment. We then discussed which tint I wanted and how dark (this took probably 20 minutes because I had no idea what I wanted or the different kinds of tint). She was very patient and showed me the attributes and differences between the different tint offerings and answered all the questions I had. She also made sure that I was aware of state laws regarding window tints. One thing I really liked about my visit here, was not feeling pressured or pushed to make a decision I was uncomfortable with. There was never a feeling I was being upsold or pressured to change my decision. That says a lot to me about a business and their people (in this particular case, I asked for a lighter tint than I think would have been recommended, and I could tell she wanted to say something but respected my decision and carried on...ironically 5 minutes later I changed my mind and went with what she wanted to recommend hahaha) Tint job itself: Absolutely no issues, beautifully done, they showed me some air bubbles on the windshield that they said should come out soon (I didn't see them to begin with lol, but goes to show how thorough they are), didn't roll down windows for 3 days as instructed. I have to post a five star rating because finally after I stopped trying, Sean had called me and messaged me back on Yelp. I was skeptical to check his business out again but I saw nothing but only 5 star reviews. While there was initially a language barrier I spoke mandarin and English. He explained each of the tint options and pricing. I like the middle option which is s7 and blocks a good amount of the rays so you won't get burned. The total for me was 530 and I drive a Toyota 4Runner. Tinted the front of my windshield and entire car. He books out in advance and also never pushed me to buy anything. After about 2 weeks no bubbling, unlimited lifetime warranty, and no cracks. I can already feel a difference in the car and I'm very happy I have him another chance.
