What a delightful find! Delicious food, attentive and knowledgable staff, and a nice atmosphere. The only thing keeping this place from five stars is the loud dance music playing through the restaurant. We were visiting on business and one of our party wanted sashimi. I came in on a Tuesday at lunch, and it took me forever to be greeted. I sat at the bar hoping for service she ignored me. So I asked to be seated, was never offered a hibachi table I had to ask. Once seated the table had already ordered and was in a "hurry"'so I had to order quickly. Never having seen the menu I ordered and they repeatedly questioned my choice letting me know "no teriyaki" at the hibachi table as if I didn't know what I was ordering which pissed me off. Don't let my complexion fool you into doubting my intelligence . Sushi was subpar and not the best, hibachi chicken was rubbery, hibachi steak bland, choice of sauces bland, Long Island Ice Tea tasted cheap, the hibachi veggies and fried rice were really good. Stopped by here on a road trip for some dinner. We came about an hour and a half before closing and there were many people at hibachi but the regular dine in tables were pretty empty. Seated immediately and had an extremely nice server. She was so upbeat that service at other places we went to during our time in Charlotte paled in comparison. The WORST customer service I have ever experienced! We had a party of 12, upon arrival the waitress, Aynsely:Station 7, informed us she was the only waitress working at that time. We completely understood the circumstances, she may take a little longer with drinks and refills. However, her attitude throughout the entire time we were there ruined the meal. One gentleman from our party asked her about the bathroom, our first time in this restaurant. Her response was that was the dumbest question she had heard. When he asked her again she stated "didn't he tell you where it was" referring to another guest in our group who was trying to help the situation. She took everyone's drink order and left out the Sierra Mist for the guest who asked about the bathroom. Everyone had drinks but the one guest, he didn't get a drink until the chef came out to prepare our food. The Chef stopped what he was doing and made sure he had something to drink. When Aynsley, the waitress, began to take our order some of our guest we're not quite ready. She was very impatient and her attitude was disgusting. At the end of our meal Aynsley walked up to the gentleman that asked about the restroom and made a comment about the bill, she had a very nasty attitude. Boasting about the fact that her tip (over $100) was already included and the service is done now so it doesn't matter how she treated us. We asked for a manager who was not in and spoke with a "supervisor". We informed them of Ansleys behavior during our time at Red Ginger and all she said was "I'm sorry". Ansleys complete lack of customer service is bringing Red Ginger's business down. Someone recommended Red Ginger as they offer Hibachi and Sushi catering on their website. I remembered having eaten here a few years ago and thought 'hmm... good idea!' So I filled out the contact form on their website and left for the day (this was last Monday, 23 July). The following day, I had neither missed messages nor emails. I waited until their opening time at 4:30PM and called. There was no answer. There was, however, a full mailbox. So, I decided to give them ONE more day to respond to me. Alas, Wednesday came, and at 4:30PM, I tried calling again. The woman who answered on the other end did not even greet me with a "Hello! Red Ginger!" It was just a blank "hello"... I might've had the wrong number? So I asked... "Is this Red Ginger?"... her response? "Um, yeah?" So I asked, "I'm trying to set up catering for a business lunch next week... May I speak to someone to place an order?"... Her response? "Um... catering?"... Yes, I reply, your website has a catering menu. Again, she speaks... "Yeah, um, my manager isn't here." ... on and on until she FINALLY asked if she could take down my number for her manager, and we hung up... No customer service, no urgency, no sense of caring AT ALL!!!! I can only assume from the tone of this call (COUPLED with the fact that NO ONE ever returned my call) that Red Ginger is simply NOT interested in taking orders for business catering. Unfortunately her soda taps needed to be changed out as my soda was flat & another one was out completely, so she had to keep going to the waiter station for refills. Hallelujah - they have Pepsi products! Sweetie got the Shrimp with Fried Rice and Veggies. The Shrimp weren't fresh & were over cooked. The rice was o.k. The veggies was mostly zucchini strips. Meh. I got the Sashimi Lunch. It was supposed to have 9 pieces, but came out with only 5 (which is the number on the Sushi Lunch). They quickly brought the rest of the pieces. Not a big variety, though. Only 3 different ones...Tuna, Salmon & a whitefish. I requested that I not get the Eel or Octopus, so thankfully, I didn't get those. It was a pretty presentation & it was fresh. Once you've got fresh down on sashimi, you usually can't go wrong. They played an odd muzak mix of lounge-type tunes. At least it wasn't '80's music. We've been here a few times. The food is fine, a bit over priced if you're not sitting at a hibachi table to see the "show." We always park in the parking deck across the street and get our ticket validated. As we leave we ask the hostess to validate parking, it's about noon, and she gives us the validation parking ticket. As we leave we enter the tickets and it still says we owe $9 for parking. We buzz the attendant who says "they only validate parking after 5pm" we say that's weird bc the hostess just gave us this ticket. To which the parking attendant replies "yeah the girl at the front always does that, even though she knows it's only after 5pm, she's always giving people those tickets. I really wish she'd stop because it frustrates a lot of people and then I have to answer to them".... Like has no one else contacted the restaurant about this, or does the hostess know and just keeps doing it? That's ridiculous. The hostess got a bit more grace because she told us it was only her second week so we didn't hold it against her that she didn't know the menu and what sushi was what. But she did bring us waters and came and asked if we were ready to order (we wanted sodas to drink), she took one soda ordered. Went to the back for several minutes and then came back with the soda... without getting the other drink orders. That was strange because then the next person ordered a soda and she immediately walked away and went to the back and returned minutes later with that one. New sushi and hibachi spot uptown here and the biggest take away I had was the space itself. Very sleek and sexy interiors and I liked the expansive layout of the place. Just feels like you have plenty of elbow room, etc. The food was on par with any other place I've been to in the same vein as this. The sushi (wasabi roll) in particular was impressive. One of the best rolls I've had in a while. The hibachi chef was really friendly and the entire wait staff was great. The biggest challenge facing this place is how to attract weekend business. I made dinner reservations about 2 weeks in advance for a retirement party for 13 people and asked to sit at a hibachi table together and it was a special occasion. From the time we all stepped into the restaurant the staff had an attitude. The hostess tried to sit us with other people, I had to remind her about our special occasion. The manager came over and had an attitude about sitting us at a separate table. Our server never once smiled and they only cooked our meals on one table, and the chef had his back to our special guest of honor. We asked for a dessert to be delivered to our retiree and it came while he was still eating his dinner. They also won't seat anyone who's there alone, as in you HAVE to have a party of at least two for them to want your money at all apparently, despite my having gone there for YEARS. Unfortunately, he went to another table. Fortunately, we did get a fun chef. So it's a crap shoot when it comes to the chefs and how much fun you may or, may not, have. The food was ok. The lobster didn't taste fresh at all though. The filet and shrimp were fine. In addition to our hibachi, we also ordered specialty rolls, which they forgot to bring us. We ate those for lunch the next day. Overall, I'm not running back to this place. I see why people like it, but again, the chefs make it fun and if you don't get a fun chef, it's just hibachi. We all ordered hibachi. I had chicken, one friend had steak and another shrimp. We all enjoyed our food and of course the hibachi show with the fire and food tosses are always entertaining. I attempt to politely remind the owner of my request however she literally walked off as I begin to speak. She was not apologetic nor did she display any type of customer service in fact she did the exact opposite. After witnessing this type of behavior several other customers who were also victims of this establishment got up and walked out. We are paying for a meal that's provided with good customer service in an inviting atmosphere. This is none of the above and I strongly advise against spending your money here. This is one of my husband's favorite spots for lunch since he works right across the street from this place. I really don't know why this place only got 3 stars. I almost didn't want to come because of only being a 3 stars restaurant but since my husband guaranteed the was really good I accepted the challenge. We got there around 1:15, place was not that busy and were sat right away. They have a pretty decent menu and also some specials for the day. The prices are regular prices, I thought it would be expensive but I was wrong. I got a steak hibachi that comes with an option of soup or salad, however since I couldn't decide I had both. Ginger dressing for the salad was overwhelming. Miso soup was good but I was not impressed. My steak hibachi was delicious even tho it my steak was a little bit overcooked. The fried rice was good and the veggies very flavorful. My husband had a chicken hibachi bento box, I tried it and was pretty good. My mother in law had the same thing as I did and her thoughts about her dish were same as mine. Service was good, food did not take long to be served and overall the experience was good. The chef's had a lot of energy and were very entertaining. The team also brought out the birthday cake and serving utensils. I got to sample some sushi prior to my hibachi and it was very good. Red Ginger does the traditional Miso Soup, Salad with Ginger Dressing or Ranch, Hibaci vegetables, noodles, rice, and meat of your choosing. My favorite place for hibachi in uptown! I work right across the street, but that doesn't change the fact that it's my favorite hibachi place. I call my orders in for the most part, as I know they are always busy. The staff is very nice and they always take care of me. When I have colleagues in from other cities, we normally end up here for lunch. They always love the food too. My office caters from them on occasion as well. I've never heard any complaints or anything negative. It's funny, I use to live near Fuji, which is their sister location and I was highly upset that I was no longer close to there, so when I found out Red Ginger is a sister location, my excitement could not be contained. The food is so good. When I get my order, I always know I'm going to be satisfied and full. The amount of food you get is always more than enough. The sushi is great too.
