This shop worked on my transmission 7 years ago, before i even knew yelp existed, and they did a wonderful job. i just had them work on my car's transmission again yesterday, 2-17-14, and i was happy to find that they are still the same family owned and operated shop. More importantly, the quality of service hasn't changed a bit! Even though during that time i have moved to roseville from carmichael, i took the car back to them and am really glad i did. i dealt with joe,,,very personable and totally explained all the parts and work needed to be done to fix the problem, and why. If you need transmission work done, this is definitely the place, and they still have the $59.00 inspection and diagnosis, fully applied to any repairs they do. Ive been coming to red d transmission for 5 years now i bought a honda van off the internet in 2009 the transmission went out 3weeks after i had it i was so mad but had to fix it they gave me the best deal with a great warrenty wes and his brother have helped me so many times with other cars and the van there so nice and honest i refuse to go anywhere else to get my car fixed im a single mom and theyve gotten to no my situation and theyve helped me so much im so greatful to have met them i recomend them to everyone ! After my check engine light came on I took it to the dealer and was told I needed a new transmission. Dealer's quote was around $5,800 and asked a mechanic friend for a recommendation. He recommended Red D and I requested an online quote through their website on Saturday. Wes called me on Monday morning and helped me get all the information so he could give me an accurate quote. He explained why the dealer's quote was so high and gave me a range ($3,800 - $4,200) depending on how bad the damage was. Red D finished the repairs by Thursday and even helped me pick up my truck. My 89 Chevy Caprice wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. Gave Red D a try after finding their $49 diagonostic coupon on their website and 5 star rating from another review. Called Wes and took my car in that morning. He told me that the diagnostic fees would also be applied as a discount to whatever the repair was going to cost- basically FREE DIAGNOSTIC FOR HAVING THE WORK DONE THERE. After a few hours he called me and said estimate increasing to $125 to figure it out because now he had to remove my trans pan. I OK'd it. Wound up paying $325 out-the-door for polishing a couple valves inside of my trans as well as changed the fluid, filter, and gaskets. This is a much less expensive alternative than the $1500-$2000 cost to rebuild the transmission. Now my transmission is shifting better than I ever knew it could. He also gave me a lot of other news about my powertrain: I have a leaky front trans seal, leaky diff cover, and an engine misfire. Wes' customer service was top-notch, combined with a job well done by the technician, makes this a 5 star experience. If you have trans problems, call them. Highly recommended! read more

When you think about having transmission repairs, the first thing that comes to mind is how much it's going to cost. I found myself in this position last week when my truck decided to stop working. Did some quick research for local shops and found Red D TRANSMISSIONS and their raving reviews. Trust me the reviews dont even do this place justice. I called and Wes answered very polite and eager to help. Very simply put, explained the process of determining what was wrong and my options never once being pushy. I had them arrange my tow which was completely fast. Under 30 minutes. The shop called me with my issues and I needed a complete rebuild to repair better than before. I was very disappointed when I had u-joints replaced in my Kia at Red D transmission. They charged me more than the dealer and only replaced 2 out of the 3. The owner had said after diagnosing the problem he would take off the amount for diagnosing it if I had the work done there. Well, when it came time to checking out and paying the bill, he did not take off the I believe it was $50.00, and charged me more than the dealer. I will not be taking my vehicle there again. Red D is not the cheapest shop by any means. But let me ask you this, do you want cheap or right? Experience costs money.

In Februay I took my 1990 Volvo to Red D Transmission in Carmichael. I was told that the transmission needed to be flushed and the filter replaced. I pd approx $200 for this service. The car ran fine for less then 400 miles before it started to act up. I sold that car for junk only to find out that the person that bought it drained the transmission oil and replaced the filter (which he says looks like the original). The filter was nasty with slug and crap so thick that it would not allow the fluid to flow. It runs great now and he is selling my old car for a nice profit. I will NEVER use Red D Transmission on Fair Oaks again and will tell anyone within ear shot to run as fast as you can from these scammers. Red D's on Auburn Blvd, CH, is not included in this review. I haven't used them in years but when they bought the Family Service Center from Ralph and Rita they were great. Sorry that I didn't drive the extra few miles to their shop. read more

We have had two experiences with this shop - one several years ago when they helped us out with a stubborn boat transmission; and this past december for a broken motor mount. The boat transmission I think they took on as a challenge and they succeeded! The motor mount on our 2005 Pacifica was a little more straight forward. They did the work quickly, explained our options and what each would cost, were true to their estimate and recommended another locally owned business for the front-end work they couldn't do. Overall a comforting experience. No upsells, no dire predictions. As a woman, I have gotten the 'oh, she won't know any better,' types of mechanics and it is really irritating.
