I try to donate blood as often as possible. From the age of 18 until just after Hurricane Katrina…read moreI had donated through the Red Cross, but then I read a news story about how the Red Cross ending up throwing away a lot of blood because they "had too much". This is how I came acorss Lifeshare. They are local blood services company that only services the NEO area. The staff is extremely friendly, and make the process of donation very quick, easy, and as painless as possible. You can set up appointments at their permanent donation sites, or see where they are having a blood drive. They can handle whole blood donations, plasma, and also double red blood cell donations - which I suggest if you've got one of the rarer blood types.

They do not care about patients just their bottom line: Well…read morewhere do I start? I have a chronic medical condition which requires regular blood draw. There is nothing wrong with my blood, I just produce too much. So the blood draw is to keep me from having a heart attack or stroke. My doctor called over to see if they could do it at their facility.....the response "sure we do it all the time". I called to make sure a day before I was going. I took a day off work. (because their hours are during the work day). I go in register and they tell me that yes they can do it, but it costs $50.00. I sigh and hand the woman checking me in, my debit card. She says "Oh no, it has to be cash." So I leave and (very annoyed) since nowhere in any of the previous conversations was any form of payment mentioned. I come back with the $50.00 in cash. Now we have a problem with the prescription. The office manager states that she didn't like the wording, I have to get a new one. I go back to my doctor get a new prescription. Now I get my blood drawn. The woman hands me the prescription and says bring this back with you next time. Fast forward to yesterday; I call ahead of time to make sure they can fit me in, the woman on the other end says sure, "when are you coming" and gets my info. I tell her thirty minutes and she says ok see you then. 5 minutes later, another woman calls and states my prescription is no good and I have to get another. I said, why was I given this back and told to bring it next time? She says coldly "I don't know" and nothing else but she will call my doctor and see what can be done. She calls back and states my doctor is not in and I won't be able to get my blood drawn today. Now I stated this is a chronic condition and my doctor wrote the prescription for "Therapeutic" blood draw. This will be remedied but I lose a day off work and if I had been there to give blood they can use ....... you betcha they would have taken it without hesitation to sell it to the hospital. Just very rude and DON"T CARE!

The nursing staff was on point; they numbed my arm really well and adjusted my wrist bone that was broken. Afterwards, I was sent home. Everything was fine once I got home, but I had no sling and a very heavy cast on the following day. My whole hand was numb, so I called to talk to the advice nurse. I was advised to come back to the hospital because something wasn't right. The second time I went back was two days later via ambulance again to the ER. I was taken to a room they took the cast off, but they didn't give me enough pain medication when they were adjusting my wrist. I almost jumped off the gurney. I was in so much pain. I complained to the doctor that was fixing my wrist about the pain, but they didn't do anything about it. The water used to apply. The plaster was so hot; it was literally burning my arm. I complained about it to the doctor. Of course, they did nothing about it. I'm not a type of person that complains about anything. The second time, I was not impressed whatsoever. That is why I'm getting such a low score. I don't know if it was the other staff or is it the doctors or what the deal was, but I was not happy about it all. I complained about not having a sling the first time around. Why the cast was coming off the second cast literally came off two days after I got the cast on. After that, I was done. I went back to Cleveland Clinic. I'm sure there are other places in this hospital that are decent, but as far as my experience, I will not come back here.

What came next made that drive look easy. We arrived at 6:17 and got checked into Fairview…read moreHospital West Park. Triage and then some X-Rays within the first hour. Then 7 hours of waiting room time as the patient sat there in pain. Hour three: I got her a new ice pack, Hour 6: another ice pack. Each time I spoke to the triage nurse who assured me that they still had no beds and if we left we would leave "against medical advice" AMA. This would affect our medical coverage. Some we were trapped. Just assume there were about 30+ other patients in different states of pain, mental clarity and coughing fits surrounding us. Also a random monitor alarm that went off every 90 seconds like a torture device. It honked three times like car horn. The vending machines didn't work and mostly the staff was apathetic. Finally at hour 8 at 2:15am we got a room. First nurse Riley was a rock star and the Dr. , Dr Defabio, was no non-sense and attentive. X-Rays were explained and medication was given. 2 boots were given and at 3:30 we were told that we would be discharged. Then we sat until after 5am until a NEW nurse came in handed the patient her discharge orders and said all set and walked out not providing a wheelchair or directions on how to leave the maze of hospital rooms. I aggressively hit the call button and on the advice of my wife ( "be nice") , was nice when the nurse came back, I asked mostly calmly, "do we get a wheelchair? Will she be wheeled out? How do I meet her with my vehicle?" The NEW nurse seem put off and said something like, "I guess I will take her". By now it was quiet and other than the four employees sitting at the main desk were laughing and telling stories. It wasn't "bustling". The patient being a nurse, we know the struggle and overworked nature, but this was just seemed like an apathetic employee not seeing the patient as a human. Overall. The 11 plus hour wait/ visit was cruel and painful. ( I figured if we multiplied my level of frustration by 3, we had how the injured patient felt). We have already contacted the hospital ombudsman and filled out the survey that was emailed. We will not ever set foot in Fairview ( considered our "go to" hospital for years ) ever again. That's all we ever wanted was good heath-care and the patient's diagnosis and treatment plan. Stay away from Fairview ER. Also hospitals should disclose "wait-times" as we would have gone elsewhere rather than be trapped for 11 hours. Everyone knows how positive I am. Hard to be positive with such bad treatment. Ok....off my soapbox.
