    Butter Chicken

Best Indian food in ankeny! If you have a good spice tolerance definitely get AT LEAST medium or spicy. Can't go wrong with either the tikka masala or butter chicken. Chicken was tender and flavorful! The chicken fry briyani gives huge servings! My recommendation for appetizers is definitely the onion pakora. It's not spicy unless you want to add any but it's a delicious treat. I also tried the paneer 65 and got it spicy - this one kicked my butt with the spice level but very delicious lol I see a lot of people order to go a lot. The service is super friendly both for inside dining and when ordering to go. The interior dining experience is also nice! Super clean and comfortable seating!

This restaurant provides the best dining experience I have enjoyed since moving to Ankeny. It nails it by preparing great food, providing exceptional customer service, and having a kind overall theme in the building. We couldn't believe they hadn't officially opened yet and were only testing their product before their official opening a week later. Our server, Kanth, was terrific. Despite our vast love of Indian food, we let him select our dishes, and he crushed it! My Tandoori Platter and my partner's Special Andhra Chicken Curry platter were delicious. Their garlic naan was sooooo good! It is a truly fantastic dining experience that would be outstanding anywhere, but I'm so glad for their Ankeny location!

I'm not gonna lie. I was pretty sad when they got rid of LS Tecca but when I saw we were finally getting an Indian restaurant in Ankeny, I was pumped to try it. We noticed they remodeled the inside and opened it up- it is really nice! The menu has a lot of options. You can't go wrong! My wife and I went and I started with a mango lassi. It was like a smoothie with coconut milk- very good! My wife had a glass of wine. They have a descent wine and Indian beer selection. For our starter, we got the Panera Manchurian- it was like cheese curds with delicious sauce. Highly recommended! For our entrées, I chose the chicken tikka marsala. My wife got the all gobi- both very good! One of my favorite parts of the meal was the cheese naan and the garlic naan! Great for dipping! I highly recommend this place. 5 min off the interstate.

Red Chillez. Once the shining light of Indian food in Des Moines. My spot. The place I told people about, the place worth the thirty-minute drive each way. Back then, it was fire. Hot plates, sharper service, food that reminded you why Indian cuisine matters--soulful, complex, unapologetic. Now? It feels like the wheels have come off. When they first opened, I ate here eight times in a month. Eight. Every dish came out steaming, fresh, alive. The staff, almost too attentive, hovered in ways that were both awkward and endearing. They cared. Hell, they really cared. Fast forward to tonight. Saturday, 6 p.m. Prime time. And I'm the only customer. Not exaggerating--the only one. Instead of the warm welcome I used to get, I'm shouted at from across the room: "To go?" Like I'd wandered into the wrong place. I sit, order the old standby: butter chicken, naan, a Pepsi. Stag night, no frills. The chicken arrives, hot enough to sear fingerprints. But the naan? A dry, brittle disk that could've doubled as roofing tile. And the butter chicken--sweet. Not the nuanced kind of sweet, not the careful balancing act of cream and tomato--but cloying. Dessert-level sweet. One teaspoon away from rice pudding in disguise. Meanwhile, my Pepsi evaporates into memory. No refills. Rice gone. No staff in sight. The only sound--voices blasting out of a speakerphone in the kitchen. At some point, four guys shuffle out, faces glued to their phones, drifting back into the kitchen without looking up. Eventually, someone--owner, manager, doesn't matter--emerges long enough to ask if I want more rice. No offer of a drink. No sense anyone gives a damn. It hurts to watch a place with so much promise bleed out like this. Red Chillez used to be a missing piece in this city's food scene. Now it's just...sad. A ghost of itself. The contrast between then and now? Frightening. And it's not even Halloween yet.

We arrived before 6 to hopefully avoid a rush but it was Friday night. We did get in before the "big" rush. It used to be another Mexican restaurant, so I'm loving the new decor. We got seated right away and got drink orders and an app. Although just water and a Mountain Dew, this is where my Star review went from 5 to 4 stars as they were definitely understaffed. My husband got his Mountain Dew right away but I never got my water until the appetizer was delivered a good 15 minutes after his drink. They were busy with Uber orders, regular to-go orders, and then an influx of customers. Still surprised I wasn't given my water earlier. On to the food: we got the paneer app which is a square goat cheese. I got spicy. yes, it was. So much so I could only have two and my hubs agreed it was spicy, but he ate the rest. But honestly, without the spice, not much flavor. We got a new dish other than our butter chicken or tiki masala like we usually get. Hubs liked the special. It was ok. I also am not a fan of chicken thighs which was in it instead of a breast. That's just a me thing. The rice was great. As for checkout, still busy but this time as a third person was helping with our table (which is fine, I appreciate the teamwork) he was very polite, brought fresh rice and a to-go box with our bill. Will probably try a non-weekend night next time. Naan bread was great. We got two garlic but I recommend one garlic and one butter.

Plastic left in food. This could be very dangerous.

The food is pretty great actually but the service is slow and the ambiance isn't really emphasized. The ambiance lacks identity. It could be a bar, an Indian place, a cafe or whatever you might imagine. Food is 4.5/5, service is 3/5 and ambiance is 2/5. My experience was ruined when I took my leftovers home and while enjoying my lamb dish, I started feeling a chunk of plastic under my teeth. Photo attached:

An excellent experience. We were excited to have a true Indian food option here in Ankeny. The service was beyond excellent, very attentive, and helpful staff. The speed of service and food delivery was amazingly quick. Now.. the food.. my husband and I both ordered the Tandori platters, one mild, one medium. The mild allowed me to fully enjoy the flavors of the chicken and seasonings, which was really quite good, the chicken was tender and very flavorful. The medium was too spicy for me( but Im a sissy)We also had the butter chicken which was amazing, you could actually taste the butter infusion, it was tender juicy and so good I can't wait to order it again. We had Chai tea, which was fantastic, and a mango Lassi, which was thick but refreshing. At the end of the meal, they gave us a free mango pudding, which was a wonderful finish to the meal. I highly recommend this place for a great Indian cuisine experience.

Food quality...not a fan of chicken thighs. For the prices you should be able to get chicken breast.

As someone who hates their food touching, I thought their attempt at thali plates was humorous. They are the exact same lunch trays you found in your elementary school cafeteria, complete with a specific square for your carton of milk. I loved it, but I could see how some people think this could be tacky. When you enter and say you want the buffet, you're offered the choice of butter naan or plain naan. This comes to the table fresh; there were two of us and we got four pieces to share. I do not know if it was refillable or if you get more if your party is bigger. They also give you a large container of water for your table. They had a setup with about 12 different dishes; it looks like they might plan to expand the buffet at some point as the back row was all empty trays. The vegan/vegetarian dishes were segregated on their buffet line; the dishes with meat were on their own line. My vegetarian friend really enjoyed the dal and said it was some of the best he'd had. I had the karampodi chicken (a dry dish; its kinda like the gobi 65 appetizer), a chicken dish, some "kebas" that were pretty much plain chicken, rice, and the veggie fritters. Huge plus for having chai on the buffet along with galub juman! I had far too many of these. Minuses: They had raita which I love, along with a chutney. These were in bowls out in the open. These should either be kept over ice or in a chilled cooler, especially the raita. It looked like they didn't do a great job of refilling some of the dishes, I was disappointed they never refilled the fritters while we were there. It looked like they were trying very hard to keep up there. The lunch buffet I believe was $18.99+tax; I didn't pay for the meal this time. Again, soft four stars; will be back to try again shortly as well as add some exterior photos. Was surprised that no one else got to this yet.

We were out stopping at local spots to update my HappyHourDesMoines.com website and decided it was time to have some dinner. My wife did a restaurant search on her car's system, this place popped up and since we both enjoy Indian food...we decided to give it a try. We left very impressed - especially with the food and the very attentive and helpful service from Kavya, who was awesome! We started by ordering a Mango Lassi (yogurt based 'malt') that was absolutely delicious - cool, creamy and full of mango flavor. We followed with Chicken Lollipops (see picture) as our appetizer and again, found them very good - especially with the side sauce. For our dinners, my wife ordered Korma (see picture) and substituted the chicken with lamb while I ordered the Gongura Chicken (see picture) at Kavya's suggestion. We also ordered Basil Naan (see picture) and found it to also be very good - thin, tasty and fresh...and the basil flavoring was something we hadn't experienced with naan before. They offer 3 spice levels and my wife ordered medium while I went with hot. We both like spicey food. Personally, I would have liked something in between the two on both dishes as my wife's didn't seem to have much spiciness and mine had a definite burn that overwhelmed some of the flavor. The good news is that we didn't have to ask for extra rice to finish our meals as we do at most other Indian restaurants - both dishes were served with a generous portion. My only disappointment was the men's restroom, as both the cleanliness and maintenance could use some improvement. The aesthetics to get there were also a little awkward, with it located in a hallway next to the kitchen that also had some carts and dirty dishes.
