Kadai chicken (bottom), garlic naan, and chicken korma (top)

We had a wonderful dinner here! The food was exquisite, the service was great and the ambiance was clean and cozy. Started with chicken momo, then had chicken korma and kadai chicken, with garlic naan. Everything was absolutely delicious and I would recommend it all! The flavors in each dish were bold in the best way but also very balanced. Medium spice level packed a nice heat, and we'll probably stick with that moving forward even though we tend to like things hot. We will definitely be back!

People forget that this restaurant started in a little hole in the wall on the South side on 14th. That's how long my friends and I have been going and we moved on to the new location in Clive. Even though the new location is in a strip mall they have white linen table cloth and nice China. Their service is fast and attentive. It still serves serves Nepalese and Indian food, including naan, lamb, goat, and vegetarian dishes. It's still one of the hidden gems of our area. Very flavorable, with large portions my favorite is still lamb Briyan I love the Saffron flavored rice.(Gosht). Although most biryanis are on the milder side, this do pack a bit of a punch, the spice is real, I usually ask for no additional spice or as little as possible. The chicken curry is also one of my favorites. I also love their garlic nan and their version of pot stickers (chicken mommo) food comes out hot and fast. I still miss the Nepalese beer that they used to get but they have some Indian beer and Japanese and fountain drinks They also have a lunch buffet It's a great place with good food, wonderful staff and a nice atmosphere.

Lunch buffet with butter naan and Chicken 65 and cabbage and tikki masala

Tried the lunch Buffett at Kathmandu over the weekend. We have dabbled in Indian cuisine, but figured the best way to try things were through a Buffett. The dining area was roomy. We walked in and it was pretty busy, but still plenty of tables where you seat yourself. We were waited in right away where we ordered our drinks and then were shown the way to the Buffett. Plenty of food in each tray on the Buffett and looked hot and fresh. The butter naan was cooked perfect with flavor. I was very impressed with the cooked cabbage. There was no sour taste and it still had crunch. My favorite was the chicken 65, very tender and so much flavor, not spice. The chicken tikki masala was interesting because it didn't taste or look like any tikki masala I'd had before. It was good, but not as near as much flavor as the chicken 65. You can go back however many times you need and there's ice cream as well. For all the options, it was well worth the price.

I was introduced to this restaurant by some friends that love Indian food. The restaurant is cozy. It will quickly fill up as we sat and talked, waiting for one of our late friends to arrive. Nicely set table and yummy smells in the air. Everyone was courteous and gave us ample time to review the menu. I had lots of questions for my friends and what they were getting. Since I was interested to taste some new things my friends were happy to order what they enjoyed and share a few bites. There are options on the menu for anyone who might not be ready to dive into the unknown. I ordered the Chicken Chow Mein and Garlic Naan. My friends ordered their favorite meals and Cheese Naan, Butter Naan, and Kashmiri Naan. They are all delicious options in the Nann department. The food came out hot and delicious. The was so much food on our little table. My Chicken chow mein was really good and there was enough for take home for another meal. I enjoyed trying the Matar Paneer which is described as Indian cheese cubes tossed and sauteed with bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. I also enjoyed the steamed Chicken Momo. I got to try some new things and know that I would enjoy coming back.

I love Indian Food and am always looking for new restaurants to eat at so I was eager to try Kathmandu, a gem recommended by a fellow Yelper. Although our server was quiet, the service was great! The server ensured we had drink refills throughout the meal. Inside the restaurant was quiet and clean! Although not too big inside, the seating was plenty for a Saturday evening. Eager to try my favorite Indian dish, I opted for the Chicken Vindaloo but the spice level 3 wasn't very spicy and fell short of my expectations. Next time I will go higher than spice level 3. I tried the Lamb Sekuwa, and I still am not a fan of lamb. I look forward to trying something else next time I visit!

This was quite a surprise. The food was just amazing. Was not expecting the bold flavors. This is a must go place to eat. Especially if you like spicy food as I do.

02/11/2023 We stopped back again last night with our son and again enjoyed the experience. I'm also happy to report that they made improvements following my initial review regarding poor lighting (and clutter) in the restaurant. The lighting was much better, enabling me to take some better-quality pictures (see below and notice the difference between the old and new). From this, I increased the Atmosphere rating to a 4*. We ordered Lamb Curry (see picture), Chef Special Grill Platter (see picture) and Coconut Chicken Curry (see picture) along with Garlic & Butter Naan (see picture). We really enjoyed all of them - with the Chef Special Grill Platter providing the most food (including full chicken drumsticks) and the Coconut Chicken Curry having the best flavor (even though it my son ordered mild and I prefer spicy). I ordered the Lamb Curry as Hot on the spicy level and my wife ordered the Chef Special Grill Platter as Medium...but I'm suspicious that they mixed those two up, as hers was the spiciest at the table and I ordered extra spice for the Lamb Curry. Service was good for drink orders and food orders as well as a follow up shortly after we were served to check on spice level (and bring more spice...). Following that though, we ran out of rice and wanted another bowl but after unsuccessfully waiting for our server, I walked over to the kitchen area and asked for another bowl. Overall was still a very good experience and we really liked all of the food, so I wouldn't hesitate to return and would recommend it as one of the better Indian / Himalayan restaurants where I've eaten.

I'm not exactly sure when the current owners took over, but I'm very happy they did. I wasn't sure the food could get much better, but we stopped in today for a late lunch/early dinner and boy we were impressed with the food! We sampled the Samosa Chat, Veggie chili momos, and chicken 65. The 65 was crunchy and had the perfect sauce. We asked for spicy and the momos really delivered (more on that in a bit). The chat is a favorite of ours since we discovered it from the old owners. It's crunchy, and just delicious. For the main courses today, we sampled the chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, aloo gobi, and palak paneer. Of course we also had some garlic and plain naan. All of it surpassed our expectations. In fact, the butter chick may just be the best we've had. For all of it, we asked for "spicy", since we weren't sure what system they used. All of the food had a nice heat, but we could have handled a bit more. I'd like to call out Krishna, our waitress. I wanted a sweet lassi, but she warned me that sometimes the yogurt can get sour, so I asked her to test it and if it was, bring me a mango lassi instead. We all ended up with the mango lassi, which was delicious. That kind of service will get us in the door, the food that came out will keep us coming back.

We were out stopping at local spots to update my HappyHourDesMoines.com website and decided it was time to have some dinner. My wife did a restaurant search on her car's system, this place popped up and since we both enjoy Indian food...we decided to give it a try. We left very impressed - especially with the food and the very attentive and helpful service from Kavya, who was awesome! We started by ordering a Mango Lassi (yogurt based 'malt') that was absolutely delicious - cool, creamy and full of mango flavor. We followed with Chicken Lollipops (see picture) as our appetizer and again, found them very good - especially with the side sauce. For our dinners, my wife ordered Korma (see picture) and substituted the chicken with lamb while I ordered the Gongura Chicken (see picture) at Kavya's suggestion. We also ordered Basil Naan (see picture) and found it to also be very good - thin, tasty and fresh...and the basil flavoring was something we hadn't experienced with naan before. They offer 3 spice levels and my wife ordered medium while I went with hot. We both like spicey food. Personally, I would have liked something in between the two on both dishes as my wife's didn't seem to have much spiciness and mine had a definite burn that overwhelmed some of the flavor. The good news is that we didn't have to ask for extra rice to finish our meals as we do at most other Indian restaurants - both dishes were served with a generous portion. My only disappointment was the men's restroom, as both the cleanliness and maintenance could use some improvement. The aesthetics to get there were also a little awkward, with it located in a hallway next to the kitchen that also had some carts and dirty dishes. We stopped in again last Tuesday for the lunch buffet at right about noon. We were greeted and told to take a seat as normal, but that's kind of where things ended. We sat in the booth for a few minutes. Normally a server checks in with you and takes a drink order at least and releases you to the buffet. No sign of anyone returning... We finally got up and headed to the buffet on our own. A lot of the warming trays on the buffet were already mostly empty and hadn't been refreshed. We did our best to fill a first plate (tandoori chicken, chicken biryani, goat curry, etc.) and went back to our booth. When we got back to our seat there was a carafe of water and a basket of naan on the table. That was a good thing. My co-worker was able to flag down the server to get him a Diet Coke. The food was good. What there was of it... After finishing the first plate we headed back up and it was kind of the same story. Quite a few empty warming trays... But at least a couple of the previously empty ones (aloo gobi and chicken 65) had been refilled so we got some variety. While we were up our first plates hadn't been cleared from the table... Maybe they were short staffed...? It only appeared to be the one gentleman working the front acting as host, server, and cashier. Given the lack of attention to guests and keeping the buffet replenished... I'm really hoping this extreme was a one-off, but things have been a little hot and cold the last couple of visits. It's a shame. We really enjoyed this buffet for a couple of years after our first visit. I've pretty much given them a pass until now hoping it would return to normal. Crossing my fingers things will get better again. With competition like Chowrastha not far away... They're too close by (Ashworth and 60th in West Des Moines) to be letting your game slip like this...

The restaurant is located inside a grocery store and set up as a take out counter where you place your order and pay first, then wait for your name to be called to pick up the food. They have a cashier to take the orders and also a kiosk (where I was directed to place my order). There is a designated seating area to eat the food. I would say there was about 8 tables and it looked bright and clean. There were families there with little kids dining in during my visit. I placed my order on the kiosk and stood aside nearby waiting for my name to be called. The cashier was nice and mentioned that it would be a while before my name would be called so I should have a seat. Instead I decided to walk around the grocery store which I enjoyed. I should have looked at the ticket that the kiosk printed because it said my order would be ready in 50 minutes. It did take 50 minutes because there were so many people whose order was ahead of mine. This place is popular! I ordered the butter chicken and the 65 chicken. The butter chicken was delicious. It came with a side of white rice and was nice and sweet and creamy. I was able to order the dish in mild spicy level which I appreciated. They use cashew paste in the dish so if you have a nut allergy, then this dish is not for you. It came in a sealed yellow container that I thought was spill proof. Unfortunately the oil from the dish leaked out onto the bag and onto my jacket. This is something to consider if I decide to pick up my order again or have it delivered. The 65 chicken was good too but the kiosk would not allow me to order it mild so I was forced to order it at a medium spice level. It was too spicy for me. The chicken was at the bottom of the take out container and covered with fried rice. It seemed like a lot of rice and not enough chicken. The rice was very good. It was mixed with cashew nuts so if you have a nut allergy, this dish is not for you. I had never had 65 chicken but knew it was a popular dish. I am not sure I will order this next time despite the large portion it came in. Overall this is a great alternative to other Indian restaurants in the area. It is competitive because some items are cheaper than what you would find in a restaurant (i.e. an order of naan here is $2.50).
