We stopped by Desi Bites late in the evening around 8pm on a Friday night and surprisingly the place was busy. The restaurant is located inside a grocery store and set up as a take out counter where you place your order and pay first, then wait for your name to be called to pick up the food. They have a cashier to take the orders and also a kiosk (where I was directed to place my order). There is a designated seating area to eat the food. I would say there was about 8 tables and it looked bright and clean. There were families there with little kids dining in during my visit. I placed my order on the kiosk and stood aside nearby waiting for my name to be called. The cashier was nice and mentioned that it would be a while before my name would be called so I should have a seat. Instead I decided to walk around the grocery store which I enjoyed. I should have looked at the ticket that the kiosk printed because it said my order would be ready in 50 minutes. It did take 50 minutes because there were so many people whose order was ahead of mine. This place is popular! I ordered the butter chicken and the 65 chicken. The butter chicken was delicious. It came with a side of white rice and was nice and sweet and creamy. I was able to order the dish in mild spicy level which I appreciated. They use cashew paste in the dish so if you have a nut allergy, then this dish is not for you. It came in a sealed yellow container that I thought was spill proof. Unfortunately the oil from the dish leaked out onto the bag and onto my jacket. This is something to consider if I decide to pick up my order again or have it delivered. The 65 chicken was good too but the kiosk would not allow me to order it mild so I was forced to order it at a medium spice level. It was too spicy for me. The chicken was at the bottom of the take out container and covered with fried rice. It seemed like a lot of rice and not enough chicken. The rice was very good. It was mixed with cashew nuts so if you have a nut allergy, this dish is not for you. I had never had 65 chicken but knew it was a popular dish. I am not sure I will order this next time despite the large portion it came in. Overall this is a great alternative to other Indian restaurants in the area. It is competitive because some items are cheaper than what you would find in a restaurant (i.e. an order of naan here is $2.50). read more

We ordered samosa chaat, chicken tikka masala and ginger chicken. It was all delicious. The restaurant is located in a grocery store. This place has been around for a while but I just found out about it. The dishes are different than what's on most Indian menus in the area, which I love because I like to try new foods. I had no idea they are a chain because it feels really homegrown. It's in a grocery store and they have a small area to dine in but it seemed like most orders were to go. The online ordering was super easy and fast and they have descriptions and photos of the dishes. Be warned that even when the dishes don't indicate heat, they have a little kick. I'm a wuss for spicy food so I noticed it a lot and it did not wane as leftovers. Speaking of leftovers, the portions are super generous so I got at least three meals out of the two dishes and naan. I recommend them and look forward to eating my way through the menu. read more

A very good find. Inside the Konark Grocery. Food was excellent. Vegetable Samosas were crispy without being greasy at all. Lamb Korma was a delicious combination of spices. The touch screen ordering kiosk was super easy to use for a newbie like me on my first visit. Staff was available close by if I had any questions. I live an hour away so had food to dine in. The dining area is simple but was clean and comfortable. I can say that they are well prepared with containers that have snap close lids and in my next visit I would not hesitate to order to-go. read more

Haven't tried a lot of the food but Briyani was too good!! The portions are amazing for the price tbh! It doesn't look much but when you pour it out it's like 2-3 meals! They are NOT shy with how much they give you. I ordered the egg briyani and my husband had the lamb briyani. The two sauces, one a yogurt base (raita?) and the other I think is like shorba a typical paired sauce for rice dishes. Both are excellent in taste and texture. Yogurt dilutes the spicy by a ton and the shorba is just really nice in texture and gives the rice more flavor (which is crazy because the rice already has amazing flavors so you could really eat it plain too, just don't forget to use the lime!) Ordering is a bit hard over the phone, it's a bit of a static while on the phone but it's easy to make out what is said if you don't have background noises to distract you! As a spicy enthusiast, I would say medium spicy is a bit too spicy. Especially if you don't eat spicy on the regular but can handle your heat! If you like franks hot sauce/Sriracha and think that's hot? Then definitely don't try the medium spice level! Me personally I love spicy but I will order no spice next time! Ordered takeout here tonight for the first time. Ordering through their website was easy, and although I wish they had pictures or further descriptions on some of their items, I was able to navigate it well. I sent my husband for pickup, and he was pleasantly surprised to see that the grocery store Desi Bites is located in had a very full dining area. That's definitely a great sign even before trying the food. The prices here are comparable- if not slightly cheaper than other Indian restaurants, and being right down the road from my home, having takeout from Desi Bites regularly is going to be so tempting. I ordered the Chicken Korma at medium spice, which came with a side of rice pilaf. I'm used to getting plain basmati rice alongside my entrees at other Indian restaurants, so this was a delicious surprise. Perfectly cooked rice with aromatic herbs. The chicken in the korma was cooked very well, and the sauce had the perfect amount of spice I want when I ask for medium level- not a dripping-sweat level of heat, but a whole mouth heat. In addition to the Korma and pilaf, i ordered 2 butter naan and 1 poori. The naan, although a little smaller than other places I have ordered it, was just as delicious and soft. Poori was a new to me item, and I was impressed. It was light and flaky, but puffy and crispy. They packaged it in a way that it would not be crushed by other items in the bag. The packaging for the Korma dish (since it is a curry) was so nice! It reminds me of a small container I would get margarine in at the grocery store, like something I could reuse for future leftovers. Speaking of leftovers, I also have lunch tomorrow, and I'm already excited to eat it again. I will absolutely be back VERY soon. Please go show this business some love! read more

Food is so good - we are never disappointed with the entrees we order. Madras chicken and Dum ka chicken are a couple of our favs. We normally order take-out. Always check you have your complete order before you walk out, they are pretty busy and have forgotten our samosas once. Helpful hint - if you are taking out, order the samosas from behind the grocery checkout - they are bigger, better and cheaper than the ones you get from Desi Bites. read more

Desi Bites serves up some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Their butter chicken is ALWAYS on the list for our family. Hubby likes anything with mutton and I prefer the Korma. The naan is soft and flavorful. We've introduced several other families to Desi Bites since we moved here and they are all fans. Oh and don't forget the Galub Jaman! read more

Several friends and I met for dinner here after one told us how good it was. Desi Bites did not disappoint. The food was delicious, plentiful and fast! Browsing through the grocery section while waiting, we found many items that would be good in our pantries. If I remember correctly, we had Madahi Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, samosas, pakora and a jalapeno naan (Bullet Naan). Oh la la, but they were good. Just the right amount of spice when medium was requested. Service was fast and if the number of people at the tables and standing is line for carryout were any indication, this place is a keeper. Amazing and authentic Indian restaurant! We were driving by Des Moines on our way to LA from Minneapolis, and we stopped by Des Moines for a night. I was craving Dosa and Biryani, and luckily I found this place! ever since my favorite local place changed their menu and my second favorite local place closed down, i have not been able to scratch that indian food itch. some places, the sauce is too sweet; some places, the chicken is dry or chewy; and most places are just bland. i ordered desi bites on doordash originally because i was craving poori, which sadly isn't common at most of the local spots. i added butter chicken, garlic naan, and their yogurt sauce. my oh my. this is going to be my new go-to Indian place. be warned - they're actually serious about their spice ratings here ! i usually order medium and am fine, but medium at this place is *spicy*. as it should be! beyond the spice, the flavors of the butter chicken were beautiful. it really has that depth of flavor, hits of sweet and herbal and creamy, that you want from a curry. you can tell they use fresh spices and it tastes like it simmers all day long. the poori was also amazing. flaky and falls apart in your fingers, and the fresh buttery goodness of it complements the curry perfectly. the only reason they lost a star is the naan. the portion sizes for the chicken and rice were pretty standard, leaning large, but the naan was sad. the portion was tiny, like one small sad piece cut in half, and it gave the vibe of being just heated up in an oven - no char marks or fluffiness or anything, just flat and depthless. it was even kinda hard on one side. this is still my new fav indian place in town - just, pro tip, get the frozen naan from the indian grocery store or order the poori instead. read more
