Service was quick and attentive on a Thursday evening about 8pm. Our drinks were a bit strange but acceptable. The chips were stale but the salsa was good and spicy. Our food appeared within 10 minutes of ordering and was very tasty. My seafood fajitas were easier to eat without building tortillas. I experienced the tiniest scallops I've ever seen.. about the size of pencil erasers! Although located in the same strip center as Shakers, the ambiance couldn't be more different. One of my favorite Tex Mex places!! A nice atmosphere with TVs showing games and never feels too crazy like some Mexican places. The service was good and really fast! We got our chips and salsa (pretty good - not too hot and tons of flavor) and ordered some Queso. Before we had a chance to eat much of that, our food arrived. She was back to the table a few times to make sure we were good. We ordered chicken fajitas (shared by two) and a chicken chimichanga. The food is good and fresh with very large portions. Came here for a going away dinner for my best friend who moved away. I would've never gone on my own just due to the fact it's 30 minutes from where I live. However, I am so glad I had a reason to try it! I got there a little late due to traffic, so I had to decide pretty fast what I wanted to eat. I pretty much chose the first thing I saw which was a fajita quesadilla. I am never the kind of person to order a quesadilla at a Mexican restaurant. The food came fast considering we were a semi-large group. The food smelled incredible as they started bringing them out, and I was so excited to eat. My quesadilla was huge! It was filled with steak and typical fajita peppers and onion. It was accompanied by rice, lettuce, tomato, and guacamole. I asked for a side of tomatillo salsa to add some extra spice. I also added some sour cream. Upon the first bite, I knew it was a great meal! The steak was cooked perfectly, and the flavor was amazing. The portion size was so good! I was prioritizing finishing the rice because I knew I wouldn't want to take that home. I ended up finishing half of the quesadilla and all of the rice and got a box for the rest. The server was great. He was friendly and very professional. I could tell they were decently busy on the patio for a weeknight in the blaring heat, so I was impressed! The price wasn't bad at all! $16.50 for my meal and a side of salsa that I ordered. Considering I had leftovers and left stuffed, I would say this is pretty good nowadays! The vibes of the restaurant were really good (but that could've also been the good company I was with!). This place has the best artwork I've ever seen in a restaurant Besides this amazingly unexpected painting, they have a beautiful painting of Frida Khalo by the door. It was really busy on a Friday at 5:30pm. But the staff were still really friendly and attentive and we got seated right away. The menu is pretty large so it was hard to decide what to order, everything sounded good. I ordered the Cactus Sonora combo since it was not something I usually get. It came with a fried burrito, flautas, rice and beans, and guacamole salad. I really liked the shredded chicken flauta and the guacamole. They were a little bit spicy. Everything else was ok, but not as flavorful as the flauta and guacamole. I will definitely go back again and look forward to trying other things on the menu. read more

Food was good. I got the chicken fajita chimichanga. Got the prickly pear margarita and it tasted good, but I got no buzz at all off of it and just a headache. Service was ok. Waiter was nice but left in the middle of serving us multiple times. He also seemed to have a hard time understanding English and couldn't answer one person's questions. It was also fairly loud inside and that didn't help. It was busy, so I would give it another shot, but I've had better drinks and service at other places. Had a watermelon margarita and it tasted like pure sugar. I had asked the waiter if I could replace it with a different drink and he just brought me out a shot to put in it. Red Cactus is a new Mexican restaurant in the Kroger Plaza off Franklin Rd on the city's SE side of town. We arrived on a slow Wednesday night after little league football practice. Everything is brand new on the inside and it was very clean. There are several big flat screen TV's all around the dining area if you want to watch TV while you eat. The noise level is a little more elevated than normal dining but not like a Buffalo Wild Wings on a game night. One side of the restaurant is entirely windows which is nice. The waiter was nice enough and service was pretty quick but it was also a dead Wednesday night. The food is pretty good. Better than El Rodeo for sure but still tastes like pretty much every other Mexican restaurant in the area. Overall it's better than most. read more

The only way I could have had a more underwelming experience is if they had served me raw flour. The entire meal took about 50 minutes; ~30 minutes waiting for food, ~5 minutes eating, ~15 minutes waiting for my family to finish eating. I ordered a coke, which was never refilled after going empty around the 20 minute mark. I bought a Combo #1 (Burrito, enchilada, and taco), none of which were even close warm to the touch. the food was as bland as they come. I ate it because I was hungry, not because I enjoyed the food. and as someone who loves eating as much as I do, you know something's up when when your grandmother offers you her plate of food and you don't take it. In the end, I probably could have gotten better Mexican food from a Taco Bell and I don't even like Taco Bell. To top it off, they messed up my dad's order of a fajita but, knowing that we would never eat there again, he didn't even bother having it corrected. I'm not sure any seasoning was used on any of the meat. Chicken enchiladas had no seasoning, didn't even come with any sour cream. 3 meat quesadilla (steak, chicken, shrimp) lacked any seasoning as well. The steak and cheese in it tasted more like Philly Cheesesteak than Mexican. With the number of Mexican restaurants in the city, being below avg will mean a quick exit. Just opened May 27, 2019. We were there on the first day and sat at the bar. There were some hiccups, to be expected for opening day. Not all the taps were hooked up so some of the beer draft beer wasn't available. And the kitchen was very slow. Being the first day, this wasn't a big deal. Thought I would try as a take-out as the location is very close to home. Ordered the lunch Chimichanga and an order of Churros sans ice cream. Used a 1.00 off coupon, but seemed a little pricey still at $12.56. There was a .50 take-out order fee added into the tab. The Chimi was large and stuffed with ground beef, but the crust was soggy. Not enough refried beans. Nice garnish with tomato & lettuce....and guacamole even though I had ordered without. The Churros were very good. They included a bag of chips and salsa, unexpected, but nice. Received very quickly. Just wish the Chimichanga had a crispy crust.. Perhaps the take-out packaging contributed to this.Probably won't go back, but thought worth a try since close to home. read more
