I've been a regular mail order customer for several years now. I stray away every so often to try something new, but always come back. The price is right especially if you invest in a five pound bag. I'm a huge fan of the Red Bird Espresso. It was first brought to my attention when people on an espresso forum were raving about the snickers bar flavors. It really did taste like chocolate, peanuts, and caramel then. Since then the flavor profile has changed, because weather and other factors have changed, but it's still delicious. ordering another five pounds today after suffering through what sounded like great coffee from another roaster. I will add that the service, quality, and value has been impeccable. Bozeman is on my bucket list simply because after what seems like 20 some-odd orders I have to visit someday. Everyone has their favorite coffee Roastery -- this is mine even though I live far away in Arizona. The beans are consistently perfectly roasted, and the coffee I can make from them is smooth and rich and delicious. I've been there -- there is absolutely no way they are sending out burnt beans. The distance between the roaster and their stock is 10 steps max, and because of this they can send out the best coffee beans possible. LOVE the Red Bird Espresso and the Blackbird beans. Great coffee, but bad customer service. I received a 5lb bag of espresso beans with a huge gash cut in the side. I have no idea how long this bag was open and exposed, or what might have crawled into it, but Red Bird was not interested in helping me with an exchange. So unfortunately, and despite how delicious the coffee is, it's not worth wasting $65 on coffee you can't drink because the company won't replace damaged goods. What a shame. read more

You can only have Major Dickasons so many times before you start wanting something with more... character. Red Bird Coffee is so good that once I found it, I no longer felt the need to look anywhere else. I live out in California but the coffee gets here extremely fast. Not once have I wondered "where the heck is my delivery?" And the prices are more than reasonable-- although if they went up any higher it would be beyond my personal budget. I like to switch things up between their African coffees and South American coffees... this is probably an inaccurate generalization, but the African ones seem more aromatic and have more fruity, sweet flavors-- while some of the Guatemalan or Costa Rican one's don't pack that same nostril punch, but go down amazingly well. The coffees also have a more beautiful "bloom" than your typical Peet's or Tea Leaf bag you get at the market. There is something about Red Bird coffee that is beyond your average coffee. It's truly exceptional. I've probably tried 10+ roasts from Red Bird, and not a single one was disappointing. At the very worst, some of them are merely "good"-- rather than incredible. I don't know much about coffee, but I could swear that new aromas and flavor profiles emerge with time-- sometimes I'll open the bag a week after delivery, and it seems more pungent. Maybe I'm nuts though... I'm reluctant to give anything on Yelp 5 stars unless it's truly worthy-- but Red Bird Coffee fits the bill. And did I mention that it's Fair Trade? Red Bird is an absolute gem. In fact I have a separate tab open right now, ready to order my next two 1lb bags... can't wait for them to get here. When you buy freshly roasted coffee beans, a consistent delivery schedule is extremely important, and this is the aspect Red Bird fails hard at. I've had issues with their shipping schedule more than any other place I've bought my coffee from. They may randomly decide to schedule "maintenance" - which may result in your coffee not being shipped for 4,5 days after you order (and I really mean: 4.5 days *on top* of whatever our dear USPS is doing). This inconsistency makes it impossible to plan. Their customer service response was basically: "Your order may ship in 0-5 days, we just don't know and, frankly, don't care!" When I asked them, well, can you put your maintenance schedule on the website so I can see that there will be a substantial delay, they said, no, we don't schedule maintenance, we just do it when we feel like it. Needless to say, in the future, I will be ordering my coffee from people who understand what reliable shipping means. read more

I just had another great customer service experience with Red Bird and it's prompted me to write a review. I've been a their mail order customer for over 7 years and it's truly hard to find such a good product along with great customer service these days. Our go-to bean is 5 pounds of RedBird Espresso Blend which we always grind fresh and prepare as espresso with milk. Awesome! Their coffee has stayed amazingly consistent and tasty over the years. Immediately after receiving a 5 pound shipment, we vacuum-pack the beans into bags or mason jars and then freeze. When we run out of fresh beans, we just grab another bag/jar from the freezer and dump it into our grinder. This method guarantees good taste and plenty of crema even a month or two after receiving the beans. The freezing helps, but the vacuum-packing is really the key. I have ordered from several places over the years when choosing beans for my Rocket Espresso machine. I use a Mazza grinder as well. I found Red Bird Coffee through a review and thought I would give them a try. I have used Lavazza and was disappointed in the freshness and taste. I bought beans locally as well and those were OK but just did not give the result I expected from my machine. When I tried the Espresso roast from Red Bird, it was a surprise. The aroma was perfect and the crema was what I had expected all along. I have tried Jaguar but I return to Espresso as my bean of choice. I buy the 5 pound bag and enjoy every bit of it. It's been at least four, five, maybe six years, I've lost count already as the time is flying by, that I've been buying the five pound bag of Espresso beans from Jeff. Redbird got my attention in a post made on H-B Forum and I called Jeff after that. We had a fine conversation, told him that I've been buying high quality beans from some of the top roasters in the country for my 1977 Cremina 67 lever espresso machine. It's not only a Swiss Classic, the Cremina, coupled with a Macap M4 grinder makes phenomenal espresso. Well, since that day, I've been a regular customer. I have been a fan and long time drinker of espresso but only recently got myself a home machine. We started off with the third wave SF roasters beans which were all very good (Ritual, Blue bottle etc). Both the Red bird and blue jaguar espressos are excellent with a dark chocolatey and nutty flavor profile. This is the best coffee I have had hands down! I use the pour over method almost exclusively for my home brewing. Red Bird Espresso is my favorite. It's rich and creamy and always perfect in my chemex! I live in North Carolina and have it shipped to my house. I ordered my first 1 lb bag of Red Bird Espresso based on an espresso forum recommendation. It was roasted in Montana on 9/30, and at my door in NJ the morning of 10/3. I use a Rancilio Silvia espresso machine. I can honestly say that in the 7+ years that i've owned my Rancilio, Red Bird is the most flavorful and freshest coffee I have ever used. As I pulled the 1st double shot, the crema was white and thick as I've never witnessed before. On a scale of 1-10 this is a 10+. I'm so happy that i found my go forward coffee, and at the same time sad that it took me so long to find it. Just amazing! Turned my friend on to it and he too was very impressed.
