Wonderful place to enjoy a beautiful day and some great pizza! We traveled to Northfield to celebrate our 15 year anniversary and it was a very peaceful/relaxing one at that. You can make your 1/2 hour reservation 5 days in the future and they do fill up fast so make sure you're on the ball. When you arrive it may seem busy but there is plenty of parking. Next you'll want to pick a nice spot to have dinner, it's all first come first serve so make sure you're on time. They have plenty of open grassy areas or a covered patio above the bar. They have multiple options for pizza and even have their liquor license now if you're in the mood. Plenty of room for the kids to play and you can stay as long as you want after you order. My family loves this cute little farm with pizza ovens. It's beautiful scenery, even if it is extremely off the beaten path. You must make reservations online in advance, and they typically sell out, so you need to be ready when they become available to grab them. They do have animals as it is a working farm, so don't bring pets. If it has been rainy, prepare for mud. It is a farm, again. Make sure you bring a blanket, or even chairs of your own to have a relaxing time on this cute little farm. Pizzas are really good and are all cooked on demand. Red Barn Farm is a Minnesota summer classic. My friends and I try to come here at least once every summer from the cities and it's always one of my favorite evenings of the summer. This year our group of 7 ordered 3 pizzas and it was perfect for us - we got the Hannah, the Sour Pig, and a Cheese pizza - all delicious - and then we brought our own salad, fruit and drinks. The reservation system this year helped the pizza to come out super fast, and their grassy spaces seemed even more green and lush - perfect for picnicking, laughing with friends, and enjoying the beautiful scenery around the farm. Reservations open on Friday for the following Wednesday, so be sure to plan ahead! Note that it is cash only and you need to bring your own trash bag and plates etc! For a fun family experience on a farm on a warm summer afternoon, this is a great option. Our kids had a great time running around, and I enjoyed the country tranquility. From a food perspective, the pizza was pretty terrible. I have no idea what the hype is all about. It is average at best. I am not being a pizza snob, either. It just isn't that good. To drive all the way out there after getting a tough-to-secure reservation, to bring all your plates, cups, chairs, blankets, etc. only to be served up mediocre pizza is strange to me. I somehow went to school in Northfield for 4 years and only came here in the last week of my senior year! I went with a big group of my friends and ordered four of their pizzas. Not only was the pizza amazing, but the ~vibes~ were immaculate. It was so nice to be out in the community and gather safely during the pandemic. A probtip: stop by Keepsake Cidery and grab a couple bottles before you head here! We have always loved the pizza at red barn but today was different. We ordered the wrangler which is supposed to have pulled pork. At most each piece of pizza had two little pieces of meat and there was hardly any sauce. As a result there wasn't much flavor. For $30 I'd expect way more toppings. I'm a big fan of the whole pizza farm thing and have been to a few now over the past year. The one here in Northfield compares favorably if not my favorite. They are open every Wednesday between the middle of May and the middle of October and the third Sunday of every month there in. Their website advises that if you are coming on a Wednesday (we were) then you should arrive prior to 5:30 to avoid a long wait. Of course, we rolled in right at 5:30 but the wait was only about thirty minutes once we ordered. You pretty much cart in everything you need (which in our case was beverages, soccer chairs, and a big towel to put the pizza box on). They offer eight dinner pizzas and a dessert pizza. We ordered The Hannah (red sauce, pepperoni, sausage, green and black olives, and feta cheese). It was tasty, but I would have liked maybe one or two more items on it to flesh it out a little bit. My biggest pet peeve with the brick oven pizzas is that sometimes they come out a little charred. That is fine and dandy to an extent, but sometimes it can cross the line into burnt and this particular one was borderline. My wife likes that kind of thing but my palate is apparently such that I'm sensitive to the burnt taste and it can overpower the quality ingredients on top. its the one thing that kept it from being great and merely good and at $25 a pie it had better knock my socks off. Its a farm so there are horses and chickens and the residual byproducts of their existence (if you get my meaning). The areas that are set up for people to sit and enjoy themselves are really nice. Lots of greenspace to sit and enjoy and wait for your pizza. Of course, there are lots of families present and when you put kids in that environment of food and farm animals they tend to run wild and this place was no exception. This is my third pizza farm and the atmosphere of this location did not disappoint. A beautiful red barn surrounded by hills and valleys and the farm animals close enough to get a look-see! Tons of parking here but be prepared as some of the areas were quite overgrown. We found an area a little more manageable. Knowing by their website it can be a wait, and the fact that we were there just after 5 and there was already a good-sized crowd, I left my husband in my dust while I headed up the hill to get in line. We were #122 and were told a 30-minute wait and they were right on with the timing. In the meantime we camped out in our chairs with our drinks and paper plates watching the swarms of kids run all over the property. From where we were in the grass I could see the lovely deck on the back of the barn. Our pizza was "The Hannah"- sausage and pepperoni with black/green olives with feta cheese. I'm sure it's hard to control in those pizza ovens, but about half of ours was burnt black on the bottom and crust..That and the crazy weather temp dropped and started to rain so we did not stick around. So I think I saw a post from cities 97 talking about this place and remembered my ex-husband mentioning he had been once before and thought it would be a fun thing to do with my partner my kids my kids dad and his wife and her kids (it's a mouthful lol). We decided to go on a Sunday and my partner and I arrived at about 11 and began to walk around and assess where was best to grab a table to eat. We ultimately decided on inside a building as it was a little chilly with some stronger gusts of wind. We were able to get our order in and got two pizzas; Cheese which was actually probably the best cheese pizza I've ever had. It's a mix of different cheeses that all lended their varying flavors to what ended up being amazing. And then we got the Twister which had sausage, jalapeños, tomatoes and basil. My ex and his wife got pepperoni and the Twister. It's a bit pricy but it's a fun experience. You bring your plates, utensils, and beverages (beer and wine allowed), you order your pizza which you can sit and watch them throw in the giant outdoor pizza oven, they call your number and then you can feast! You can look at all their animals and walk around and see where they host weddings/receptions. It's a truly beautiful little set up and I won't deny it may now be on our list of possible venues. The staff were all nice and after reading some about the place and the family that runs it, realized the girl who took the order was the daughter, the woman boxing up the pizzas was the mom, and I'm pretty sure the guy cooking is the dad, (I don't know if we saw the son) I read about how a tornado destroyed their property last year and how they had to rebuild, and they seem to be thriving! It's a short distance outside of Downtown Northfield which we also highly recommend stopping to walk around in. It's very downtown Stillwater/Hudson-esque and had some super neat/unique pubs and eateries as well as shops and an awesome gaming store. You can walk along the river and watch the locals fishing. We went for pizza and ended up having an entire day long adventure! I would absolutely go back again, the pizza was amazing and the experience was far beyond what I expected especially if you include Downtown Northfield as a part of your trip out there. read more

The Red Barn Farm pizza nights are such a fun experience just a little trek outside of the Twin Cities! I've come twice to the Wednesday pizza nights held over the summer months and I am always shocked at how many people are there eating, hanging out and enjoying being on the farm. The farm has a specialty pizza each week along with a number of pizzas they always make. They are delicious and made fresh to order. You may have to wait a bit but it's well worth it. You have to bring in all your utensils, plates, sides, drinks, etc. and bring everything out with you as well but it's part of the experience. A lot of people go all out with wine, beer, salads and desserts. There are a few picnic tables but I would suggest bringing a blanket or folding chairs. read more

My daughter was the one who first introduced me to the pizza farm concept. I mentioned it to a few of my girlfriends and we decided on the Red Barn Farm. It was less than an hour away and open during the week. Better yet, no reservations were required. When we arrived at the parking lot at Red Barn Farm, we were greeted by Pat, the owner. It only seemed appropriate that he was dressed in a white chef hat. How personal is that! We came prepared with plastic silverware, plates and of course our own beverages. There are a few outdoor tables available but it's best to bring along a blanket as seating space is limited. Red Barn Farm opens for dinner at 5 pm. When we arrived the wait time for pizza was only 10 minutes but expect to wait longer during peak season. Pat informed us that during the summer they can make up to 240 pizzas a night. All the pizzas are $25 and you can add any one of their fresh ingredients for no additional cost. The pizzas not only looked but WERE amazing. Rumor has it they may soon be growing their own grapes for wine and brewing their own beer. That will soon make the trip to Northfield even more satisfying! read more

Excellent pie in a unique and family friendly location, sure to be a memorable stop over summer! I am a pizza aficionado, a connoisseur. I have tried every pizza place I've ever heard mentioned in Minnesota. Traveled to Italy and Chicago basically to eat pizza. Red Barn Farm is slinging the real deal. This isn't Pizza Hut or even Red's Savoy. This is legitimate crust created with care the right way. The closest pie comparable in the TC is easily Element Pizza in NE MSP. Just the right amount of chewy, airy, bubbly crust to support a reasonable amount of cheese and toppings. The pizza cornicione(lip) has those magnificently charred bubbles that can't wait to be eaten. The undercarriage is worth of a picture by itself it is so beautifully speckled with black spots. The toppings were all delicious and even the standard pepperoni was just the right amount of crisp to salty. I'd highly recommend the addition of feta cheese, but I almost always am a fan of that combo. If you have never been to a Pizza Farm, keep in mind this is a BYO - Bring Your Own environment, including chairs, plates, wine, apps, etc. Cash/Check only. They do have nice bathrooms, a fire pit, and some water/pop available for purchase. I have one single complaint about the Red Barn Farm. Most people interested in a "farm to table" experience such as this would be interested in knowing which ingredients actually come from the farm, and I could find no such information. If the menu had an asterisk next to fresh farm ingredients, I would absolutely love that. I would also be interested in a little bit of the farm history shared maybe on a wall plaque or similar. When someone spends the time to schlep it out to the farm fields to get a fresh pie, I am pretty sure they also would be interested in a bit more understanding of the product. Overall, the Pizza here is completely legit - and that is saying a lot coming from me! The family atmosphere, horses, chickens, garden, and setting are all wonderful bonus's. read more

Pizza picnic on a farm?? Count me in. This place is such a unique experience, and can make for a really nice evening with friends. We went there not knowing what to expect, and found that it was filled with 200+ people chilling around the lawn. The property is very beautiful, with lots of space to spread out, beautiful views, animals roaming around, and well-kept gardens & outbuildings. Bring your own blankets or chairs to sit on, plates, napkins, and utensils. They sell a few drinks (Jarritos and water, mainly), but I recommend bringing your own. There are some picnic tables, and I think that during bad weather they open up the titular red barn. The pizza is delicious and homemade using ingredients from their garden. We had the margherita, two meat, and dessert pizza, all of which were awesome. Especially the margherita - the fresh, local basil and tomatoes from their garden made it heavenly. Probably the worst thing about this place is the extremely long wait times - we stood in line for around 45 minutes and then waited an hour and 15 minutes for our pizza to finally be done. This is not the place to go for a quick dinner. But if you want to just relax in the country and hang out with friends, it's a lot of fun. You may be able to avoid the long wait by coming earlier, around 4:30-5, or later, around 8. Pizzas are $25, which can add up fast, but we still were able to feed four people with $60 so it's no worse than most other restaurants, albeit not cheap. Bring cash (or I think checks are acceptable too) because they do not take cards. This place is very family friendly, and there were tons of kids running around (more kids than adults, I think). There are rules against touching/feeding the animals, trampling the gardens, or picking fruit/veggies from the garden. Stopped by the Red Barn Farm last Wednesday since I had heard such good things and I have a friend getting married there in October. Upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised to see the place was packed! My group ordered 2 pizzas (~20 minute wait, not bad), and continued to the general store to sample homemade salsas and marinara before finding a place to spread out on the lawn. The pizzas were done within the 20 minutes and everyone in our group enjoyed them. I especially recommend the vegetarian pizza with the roasted garlic. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the pizzas are expensive - $25 each. I appreciate local ingredients, but that price point keeps me from making Red Barn my go to pizza place. Also, make sure to bring everything with you (plates, beverages, sides, etc...) and take everything back with you (garbage included). Red Barn Farm is a fun Sunday activity - if you can time it right. Sign up for their Facebook page or email blast so you know when they are doing Pizza. The pizza is delicious. Just please note that it is about a 40 minute wait for pizza on average, it is BYOB, and you have to pack out (they do not have waste disposal on site). Bring chairs to sit on as there are very few. The pizzas are fairly expensive at $25 a pop. But that didn't seem to deter people. While you wait for your pizza, you can stroll the garden, pet the horses, see the chickens, hang out on the lawn. They could probably use some acoustic tunes, but judging by the crowd they won't need to add that anytime soon. read more

Wait in line for an hour and a half, wait a further hour and a half for an admittedly nice pizza (I saw some really burnt ones given out and one of ours was too), but definitely not the best you can get in town and not worth the $25 price tag. Pizzas made in their brick oven cost $20 and are very large. They have some suggested combos based on what is in season, but you are also welcome to create your own. Bring your own drinks or take pizzas to go. Dining is picnic style. Most people bring a blanket to sit on, I saw a few people who had folding tables and chairs. If it rains you can set up shop in the hay barn. When we were there there were kids running all around discovering the farm while the adults hang around the blankets, very casual. Sometimes they have music. I love the laid back nature of this place. And the pizza, most importantly, was phenomenal! read more

No reservations needed and you can just walk up, order and wait for your number to be up on the board. Pizzas cost $25 and come in a large. We ordered a GF two-meat pizza that was very, very tasty and brought folding chairs and used our bag as a make-shift table. The wait is about 10-20 minutes, and you can shop in their general store for eggs, salsa, and other things while you wait. It was comfortable to bring a blanket and book and hang out on the vast lawn to wait for our delicous pizza. Other groups were picnic-ing it up on blankets--that works too. We forgot one thing: bug spray. Had never been to a pizza farm, but wanting to go for years. Pizza is my favorite food, and I consider myself a pizza connoisseur. Despite rushing out the door, my wife and I arrived 2 minutes after the last order is taken for the night. They politely still took our order. In fact, politeness is a theme of the owners here, which I hear is hard to come by on the "soup nazi" style pizza farms of the MN/WI region. Sadly for us, we didn't realize that CNN wrote a national article on this place the week before, and the weather was great, so it was packed. How packed, as the last pizza of the night, I was #465. My wife and I waited an hour and 50 minutes (got pizza at 10:20 pm). The owner mentioned that despite ordering an extra pizza oven to meet demand, he is no longer doing media requests because he hates knowing that his customers have to wait 2 hours. It was never his intention for the charm to be ruined by long waits. That being said, just come prepared with lots of snacks and beverages and the wait won't bother you. On to the pizza. My wife and I both ordered the gluten free (a steal at $10 a pie!!) which is a homemade crust recipe. This is by far the best GF crust I've ever had. Trust me, I love punch pizza, but they need to start sourcing their GF crusts from the pizza farm. My olives were the best I'd had. Perhaps the food tasted even better as we were starving and eating the dark, allowing our sense of taste do all the discovering. Would I wait 2 hours for a mediocre pizza? NO! For this pizza, absolutely. The pleasant owners are a welcomed surprise as well. Just be prepared to be around 400 other people who had the same idea as you. read more

Red Barn Farm (just called "the pizza farm" locally) is really a treasure! The pizza itself is the best in town -- no contest. All summer and into the early farm, they're open Wednesday nights and one Sunday a month. It's such a wonderful spot. Kids love visiting with the horses and chickens, and playing in the open grassy spaces. The barn is sometimes open if you'd like to sit indoors at a table. Last time we were there, a few months ago, pizzas were $25 each (cash only) and only came in one size. Kind of expensive for pizza, but it really is good pizza and we think of the high price as a kind of admission fee for our family to come and enjoy the beautiful farm and landscape at Red Barn Farm. I wanted to write a more up to date red barn pizza farm review. The pizza is very good and enjoyable so don't worry about that. Whats difficult is the long wait, we arrived around 6:20-6:30. Ran down and waited in line until 6:45 and put our order in. Honestly the pizza wasn't ready until 9:15pm. So it was a two and a half hour wait.
