The best part of it will be knowing these wonderful pieces are not priced outrageously. The owner explained where the pieces came from (all over the country) and what they were used for, and the wood they were made of. If there was a re-creation of an antique, he explained that as well and gave us a few pointers on how to make the distinction. Twice Touched also carries some specialty things -- lamps, vases, wall art and the like. It was a visual and tactile treat from start to finish. We could have spent a lot more time browsing this shop and look forward to a return visit. Someday.

The large well-worn wooden doors in the sandstone brick is enticing but might be, for some, sketchy. There's a large sign on the door but no other markings. When I walked in, I was expecting a small space, but to my surprise, the building is far larger than it appears -- like a Tardis, I suppose. Things are sorted -- kind of: the kitchen things are in one spot, the glassware dining and living room accoutrements in another, and then a middle room with old clothing, spurs, saddles, chaps, and the back room with toys, books, vinyl, pictures, tools, knives, and other general things. The owner, a spry older man, tells everyone to come in and browse. If he's not helping a customer, or haggling over pricing, he's quietly sitting in the front reading. There's no air conditioning or water as he explains why he's not open in the winter. It's an old building that in the heat of summer stays cool inside. Owing to his health issues this might be his last year and he'll close when it gets too cold outside. But then again, maybe he won't. He hasn't decided. But for now, make him an offer on whatever you find and he'll work with it. Many of things he has accumulated he found from various road trips in the Dakotas, Wyoming, Nebraska and points west. When he mentioned his age and how long he's had this shop, I suddenly felt as though I have accomplished nothing at a much younger age. What a life he's had. Two visits to this shop already -- not because I need or want anything, but because I enjoy the adventure of the search and the stories. With that said, I did find a couple original craftsman screwdrivers to replace some I lost. I have to work on my haggling skills, though.

It's organized, far more so than other stores of its kind. Things are sorted by category, and labeled with prices that are both reasonable and expected. Some items are straight from old, classic diners (plates, salt and pepper shakers and creamers) and others are obviously from well-loved collections. It's the pictures though, from when color film first became mainstream along with old black and white photos where no one smiles, that's a little sad. Maybe the things in this shop belonged to those people, but it's still unfortunate that these unknown people have had their pictures tossed into a basket at an antique store for others to ogle dispassionately. That's weird. Broadwater is still a nicely organized shop with things you expect to find as well as things you don't. With new inventory rotating in, if you see something, don't wait, it may not be there.

I think that the charm of the place comes with personality, if you cannot follow directions (ringing a doorbell, respecting someones store that they have put 45+ years into curating), im sorry for your loss. The owner is not kind to women in his store. We saw a nice music box and wound it gently to see…read morewhat song it played and make sure it worked. I decided to leave it, and set it back on its shelf. The owner then came over and started scolding me like I was a child for playing the music box. I apologized, but he started yelling at me and continued to follow me and my family through the store and berate us. At one point my mother put her hand slightly up and told him "we get it, we understand," and that is when he started to get aggressive, started yelling even more loudly at us, and he put his hand aggressively in my face. I did not feel safe, and I told him "we are happy to leave" and my family and I left as he continued to become more agitated. It was actually very shocking, uncomfortable, and disappointing. I would not recommend any woman shop in this store, alone or with others, and that any men who respect women not shop here either.
