Visiting and being serviced by Recycles feels like you are stepping back in time, and I mean that in the most wonderful way! This place is a gem!! You just don't find service and care like this anymore. Several years ago I bought a 70's three-speed bike online. Three speed bikes have a special place in my heart because that was the first kind of bicycle that my grandfather bought for me back in the '60s. Right before the pandemic one of the pedals fell off and for 3 years it has been sitting in my shed. I decided a few weeks ago to bring it to a bicycle shop to get it replaced, and I am so glad that I did! Recycles is located on Spring Garden Street right by Mendenhall which is where I lived when I went to UNCG. Lots of nostalgia visiting that shop and parking in the neighborhood. I loved it! I lived in a bottom floor studio by Mendenhall and Carr for $85 a month! Although the shop has the latest in equipment and technology, it has a very old fashioned feel to it that I really loved. What really makes this place tick is its owner and operator, Merritt White. As soon as I walked into the shop with my bike and waited my turn, I was so impressed how personal he was with each of his customers. Nobody was rushed, all questions were thoroughly answered and you felt like he had a personal relationship with every one of his customers, whether they were young or old, replacing a tire or wanting to enhance their bike in whatever way. Merritt had all the answers! He told me to come back in 45 minutes and so I thoroughly enjoyed walking down to Tate Street and visiting my old haunts like the Taylor theater and the music building. Upon my return, my bike was fixed and I was thrilled to have it back. I was so impressed with Merritt and his his shop that I had him also replace the tires on my other old fashioned bike. Now I'm riding around my neighborhood in cool White Walls! Who the hell do I think I am? Lol I happened to notice that Recycles also recycles old bikes ( hence, the name!) and donates them or sells them cheaply to those in need. With that in mind, I donated a really cool red bike that I had in my shed and hope Recycles finds a good home for it. Should make some kid happy! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the place to go whether you have an old bike or a new one. He is very knowledgeable and I marveled listening to him talk to each customer. While I waited my turn, there was a young boy with his mom, an avid racer, a new customer and people from all walks of life. Each one was made to feel special, as if they were family, And it was obvious several customers have a long-term relationship with Recycles. I was extremely impressed with the customer service and the service I received. With the weather getting warmer and Greensboro becoming a friendlier place for bicyclists, I cannot think of a better resource for us to have than Recycles. Conveniently located by UNCG and run by a knowledgeable and personable bicyclist, I would say this is definitely the place to go if you are needing advice, gear, equipment, whether your bike is new or old. In no time at all, Recycles will make you feel welcome. listened to and serviced in the best possible way. Got to go. It's time to ride around my neighborhood in my fancy new white walls! Stoked to be PUMPED! My dad kept my 91' Haro Edge in dry storage when I went to college. I moved to NYC, 13 years later he told me he still had it, so when I moved to the Boro he let me have it back but it was in horrid condition. Busted brakes, no tires, bad grips, rusted cables. It was awful. But not so bad Merritt couldn't make it look like new again. Nostalgia is an understatement when I'm on this bike. I've had it since I was 13 years old. I called ahead a time and told them what i was wanting to do with my bik. they told me to bring it in so they cans ee if they could change it to a multi speed bike. I brought it up there and he seemed confident that he could change it for me. He told me it will be ready 5 days later. When they called to let me know the bike was ready he told me that he could not change it or me. He did not apologize instead he got an attitude with me and lacked poor customer service. he said things like " what you want me to do buy you another bike" : please have grace we had 40 bikes dropped off since you brought yours here. When i came to pick up my bike he said nothing. he did not apologize and he did not even offer to put the bike in my car VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

The guys @ recycles are really on their game. I brought my bike in for a tune up & some TLC. They gave it the full work up & upgraded some necessary parts for less than the estimate. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. I had a front derailleur issue on a bike I built. With a ride scheduled for the afternoon, I called the shop on the off chance that they could look it. They said, sure, bring it in. So I did, and they fixed the problem, cleaned up another couple of build issues that weren't perfect, and sent me on my way for a very reasonable charge. Being new to Greensboro from DC I've found it difficult to find services to keep my active lifestyle up. I think after the pleasant phone conversation I had then venturing in with great expectations they were on point! $28 and 15 min later the guys had me out the door even giving me a discount on the labor charge. This is by far the best shop in Greensboro! All of the employees that work there are always more than happy to help fix up everything from your Kmart bike to a $8k downhill bike. They also upkeep "the zone" which is an unlikely freeride gem found in country park. This shop is well worth the drive. read more

Love these guys! I've taken my bikes in there many times and they've always done a great--and inexpensive job. Just had my old Gary Fisher mountain bike there that I use for commuting and recreational cycling. They replaced the chain rings, freewheel cluster, new chain, rear derailleur, and brake pads and charged me only $15 for labor. The rear derailleur was a used (recycled) part that works great and they only charged me $5 for it. Yes, parking is tight, but I've never had to walk more than a hundred yards from where I parked my car and, come on, we're cyclists. Everyone who works there is low-key, friendly, and not-at-all bike snobs who look down their noses at non-elite cyclists (like I've encountered elsewhere). Five stars for Recycles! read more
