Came in to get some help with my fiancé's bike after replacing a wheel. These guys over delivered! Not only did they help tweak some things on the bike to make it ride better, the education and knowledge that they shared with us, and hospitality bywelcoming us into the biking community and informing us of more ways to get involved was really impressive. The fellows working in the shop know their stuff and don't try to forcibly upsell you on things that you don't need. It seems like an honest business and we have definitely found our new bike shop in Greensboro! read more

cycles de ORO - Store front - Bikes Near Me - Greensboro, North Carolina

Cycles de Oro is the only place for me for service and purchases bikes and accessories, staff is always helpful and care that I am there!

Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Dale could not be kinder or more trustworthy. An institution in the Greensboro area. I would trust them with any repair or if I were buying anything. read more

Since I was such a happy customer, I bought two bikes from them! They are indeed phenomenal! The sales experience was excellent! They are very knowledgeable and more importantly passionate about biking! I can say the specialized turbo Levo is a game changer for people like me who typically wouldn't be out on the trail, I find myself going to the trails now 5 times a week sometimes even more if the weather is nice. I enjoyed it so much I decided to get into road biking and picked up a turbo Creo SL. It makes you work but the reward is so worth it! read more

My all time favorite bicycle shop period. The shop has been around and serving the Greensboro area for at least 40 years. Dale, the owner, has a wealth of knowledge and a love of all things bicycle. In a world of online shopping and anonymity, it is refreshing to know there are still full service shops. The only complaint I have about the shop is they don't have a location in Chattanooga where I live! Cycles de Oro is fun to simply visit and admire all the beautiful artwork, classic bikes and the latest and greatest bicycling products. Who knows you may leave with your next ride. Please support your local brick and motor shops like Cycles De Oro where the service is personal, knowledgeable, and dependable. Oh and don't be the worst kind of jerk who utilizes the products and staff to determine what you want and then go buy it for a few dollars cheaper online! read more

Huge fan of cycles de ORO! I live in Charlotte and made the 4 hour round trip to buy my next bike here. I've been debating for some time about switching from my beloved Niner One singlespeed to a full suspension - the fully rigid setup is getting harder on my body with age. I've been looking for a 21 Epic Evo for quite some time - impossible to find with the pandemic. I initially passed over this one in the comp specs, looking for expert or pro. Dale spent time walking me through why the comp is a great setup and feedback from other recent customer purchases. Dale and Chris were so kind to meet me a bit early before opening to make it work for my schedule and longer drive. Chris took time to do a rough fitting and explain all the features that are new for me coming from a simpler bike. Chris also did an out-the-door tune-up and changed it to tubeless on the spot. Overall, this is a gem of a shop. This is exactly how in person retail can still succeed - it's the deep expertise and personal attention. Specialized is lucky to have this dealer in their network, and Niner should jump on adding them! read more

Bought a used Specialized bike here last week. It was a little pricy for a used bike in its class and I was disappointed by the selection of used bikes but it was fine otherwise. The Specialized I purchased has some issues with gear shifting and the plastic housing was broken. I noticed both of these when testing the bike out. They wouldn't give me a discount based on those issues I found but I was in need of a bike, and it was the only one that fit my budget in the area. It was 250, but I think it should have been 50 dollars less at the least. I find the staff to be ok. The people at the front were a bit aloof though and I observed some were hanging out rather than helping other customers who came in. Props to Brad who helped me and he was excellent, and even had some ideas for how to get better tires that fit the way I will be using the bike. He was fantastic and made the trip here worthwhile. However I have had much better and likely would seek out a different place next time. read more

Tremendous help fitting my tri bike in prep for a race. They recommended modifications for a better fit despite the fact I intended to purchase a new bike. Their recommendations made all the difference and my ride is much better for it. Thank you!!!! read more

My wife and shopped around several bike shops in Winston and Greensboro. We ended up buying from Cycles de ORO for a couple of reasons: 1) we found a Specialized Hardrock for quite a bit less than we saw at some other stores. 2) The dude that helped us, a guy named Steve, was easily the coolest guy we've ever dealt with in any bike shop ever. We are not hardcore bikers and sometimes we have felt overwhelmed or even like other bike shops can come across with a snobbish sort of attitude. Another review had mentioned all the old bikes that are hanging around on the walls of the store - I too thought this was a really nice touch. I felt like I got a little bike-history-appreciation while I was there. Really nice touch. But, one can find a cheap bike anywhere, right? Especially online if you look hard enough. For us, the reason we dropped close to 700 bucks (bike and a bike rack) was Steve and the staff. Very friendly group. Very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this store - these folks love bikes and love what they do and it shows. read more

Service was fine. Note that though Covid precautions are listed as being used by this store, the store is *not* using Covid precautions. Not a single staff member wore a mask. read more

When I was stuck in supply chain limbo for some specialty parts for my ebike, Cycles de Oro got me back up and running (biking) with some creativity, attention to detail, and a smile. I am thrilled. read more

This is the kind of bicycle shop that any town or city should hope for. The owner has a very deep knowledge and love of cycling, and the store is bedecked with an almost museum-like array of the most beautiful bicycles from years gone by as well as the modern age. While a knowledgeable cycling enthusiast could easily pass a couple of hours in this store conversing about the bikes, it is also a welcoming establishment for the beginner cyclist who is looking for guidance about the best way into the wonderful world of cycling. Shops like this serve as a reminder about what a fabulous place the cycling world is. Even if you don't want to buy a bike you should go there just to check it out. read more

Hi, I just want to thank everyone at Cycles de Oro for all their help. My wife and I had a weekend ride planned for The New River Rails to Trails and I was nervous they would not have enough time to get my bike fixed. So thanks again, Dale, Steve, Nic, Tracy, Woody and everyone else. Especially Steve, I was freaking and he just moved forward and got the job done. read more

Very good shop. Bought a sweet Giant Defy here a few years ago. Great price, great service. Have had it in a few times for routine maintenance. Very fair and honest. Would buy here again. Nice people. read more

Bicycle shop with just about everything. Apparently rated highly but more importantly they seem to support virtually all the bicycle events and activities hereabouts. Dealers for my favorite brand, Specialized, but also have Giant and others. Huge selection, lots of clothes, etc. Service department is also twice or more better equipped than others. A bit slow getting work back but very good work. Web site is a good resource for local events, etc. Just had another visit this time for a fit session on my road bike. The main repair dudes are curmudgeons (moody) but really know their stuff. read more

Cycles de ORO has been my go-to bike shop in Greensboro. However, today I walked into the shop to look at some gear, and no one in the shop was wearing a mask. They saw that I was masked, and they greeted me, but they did not proceed to put on their masks. This Yelp profile says the staff is wearing masks as a COVID-19 precaution, but this is incorrect. There were at least two people behind the counter without a mask, and then another customer who also was not wearing a mask. Cycles de ORO needs to do better to protect its customers and our community. read more

Incredible STAFF/Owner Dale! I have been coming here since 1986. I do most of my own stuff, but when I buy a bike that I later find needs new BB threading/crankarm pedal retapping/ and/or has some bizarre headset or freewheel requiring a special tool to remove that no one has made in DECADES-They WILL have it AND know how to use it! They also have an appreciation for, and knowledge of, quality older bikes. For beginners, they have a great selection of bikes, clothing, shoes, and accessories. Oh, and they have never 'shamed me' for having older stuff-I had a beloved touring/"all road" bike that used 9 speed Ultegra drop shifters with XT drivetrain. A couple of years after 10 speed came out, the (then local-Winston-Salem- shop) mechanic shouted out "Hey, this guy is still running a 9 speed drivetrain". (Actually that combo was/is super for drop bar touring/mixed road riding). No one in Cycles de Oro would ever talk trash about your bike, so bring it to them! read more

On a recent ride I heard a loud screeching noise at speed which I was sure came from the front wheel. Brought the front wheel in, Steve looked at if for about 30 seconds, and told me that the problem was in the rear wheel. He asked me to leave the bike with him for about 2 hours and he would fix it. The following day I went for a ride, the noise was gone, the wheel turned more freely, and the cost of repair was minimal. This is the 2nd time that Steve has diagnosed and repaired a wheel issue for me. The man knows what he is doing. read more

Full retail prices, no value, lousy customer service, I left a review that was fare accurate and honest which was detailed extensively. Days later about ten family friends of the owner all left great reviews ( all on the same day)! Now my review which I stand by has been erased. Guess yelp, excepts payment from lousy businesses to perpetuate more lousy reviews which will eventually generate more revenue for Yelp once the business decides the negative reviews are hurting business. I guess running a customer service oriented business is losing its appeal I found my review from earlier this year here it is; I called to get the price of a Specialized Transition and was told the retail price, "but if you send a email to the owner you may get better pricing". I ask to have the owner call me or send me a email because I was calling from my car and couldn't write anything down. The guy seemed disinterested in this but I insisted. After two days I still had not got a call back so I went to their shop today because it was convenient and because the clerk who answered the phone seemed impatient with taking my information to begin with I assumed he didn't pass on my info to the owner. As luck would have it when I walked in the owner was speaking to another customer so he was easy to pick out because he told the guy he was the owner. When I told him who I was and that I'd left my info with one of his employees he did indicate that he got the note and he didn't call me because his employee said I was pushy ( I guess because I wanted him to take my contact info as My feeling is if your looking to make a purchase of 3k and you make the initial call as a consumer I shouldn't have to send a email to them, they should be grateful for the opportunity and contact me back). The response from the owner was ,"I figured you thought we do business like a used car dealership, we only sale our products at full retail". I said thank you and left. I have purchased the Specialized Transition pro with the carbon crank for $2940.00. This price includes tax. I just have to drive 120 miles to get it. After dealing with that guy though I'd drive to California before I spent a penny their! read more

A TRUE Local Bike Shop! I was in the market for a new mountain bike and had been searching in my local area and I just could not find what I was seeking. I emailed Cycles de Oro and received a message from the owner, Dale, stating that he had the bike I was seeking at the best price that I could find anywhere. I drove an hour from Carrboro, NC to make the purchase and was not disappointed. They had the bike tuned up and ready for me and the purchasing process was very personable. I could tell that Dale genuinely enjoys getting people on bikes. Also, this is a really cool shop and is as much a museum as it is a bike shop. The walls are filled with vintage bikes. If you cool old race bikes, check out this shop! read more

I can't say enough about cycles de Oro. I bought my Specialized Dolce there 6-7 years ago and the service I've received since has been exceptional. After a difficult ride today where I fought my gears, I brought my bike into Cycles de Oro, to leave it to be checked. Steve took it right back and diagnosed the problem immediately, adjusted it and coached me how to maintain it after. That's above and beyond service! I certainly owe Steve a gluten free snack and Cycles de Oro my bicycle business going forward. Did I mention Steve taught my daughter how to ride a bike when we shipped there 4 years ago? Definitely recommend! read more

I'm new to the area and needed the front break fixed. Walked in, greeted right away. Problem fixed and breaks adjusted in no time. The guy took time to show me where to find trails on the website. On the way out the door I was offered a granola bar... I think the delivery guy had just dropped his shipment. Anyway, super nice and knowledgeable people. I would have given 5 stars, but being new to the area directions were a little tricky and difficult to find. read more

The staff here is very helpful and meets you where you are in order to find the right bike for what you are doing. I needed a campus bike, so I came down to Greensboro and tried many different bike shops in search of the right one. I finally arrived at Cycles de Oro, and they helped me find a great deal on a (barely) used hybrid bike that has served me well for the last 3 years. They really made a lasting impression on me and I still refer people to them even though I do not live in the area. read more

I have been a long time fan of this store. Recently I brought my 11 year old road bike in to get new tires/tubes. They were able to get right on it which was great as I was expecting to have leave it. Before I knew it lots of other things were being done - handle bar wrap, new chain, truing my wheels, a new sprocket ordered, etc etc. My bike did need all of this my only objection was that each one of these things needed to be discussed with me and my priorities established. I had some sticker shock, not because the prices weren't appropriate, I just had not been expecting all of that at once :). My bike is riding better and feels great. I probably would have done the work in installments rather than all at once. read more

I'm an old used bike person somewhat intimidated by most bike shops. having grown up in Greensboro i got to know the folks at this shop over the period of a few years and it's definitely one of those nice personable atmospheres that makes you wanna hang around the place, even after you're done buying a bike. the Mechanics are knowledgeable and honest, and the owner has an in depth detail oriented knowledge of by gone as well as current components. you won't be sold something you don't want or need either here as i've experienced first hand. the sales team centers on getting the consumer what is in their individual interest of riding whether you wanna putz around the neighborhood and local trails to a spot for a couple beers with buddies or train for mountain or road racing. i bought a hybrid cruiser starting out in college and as i grew to love it traded it in for credit towards a nice entry level road bike i continure to ride and love to this day. The shop is also well involved with local charity rides and organizations so by chatting around one can really delve into the community of cycling with relative ease and find a group to ride with without worrying about keeping up and getting left behind. all in all if you're a bike enthusiast or a beginner definitely check this out if you're seriously considering getting a new set of wheels in the Greensboro area, and want to experience good customer service first hand. read more

The above comments are about a shop full of "interesting things" are true. The comments regarding the Shops support of the local cycling community are also true and big props should be given for this. The rub comes from the air of arrogance and condescension that pervades. Checking other web sites that offer reviews shows a preponderance of opinion this way. So does discussion with numerous local cyclist. It's interesting as a quick glance around at the employees leaves one wondering which one of them could out ride my grandmother on her cruiser with a basket full of groceries! Several of the mechanics seem almost openly hostile in their arrogance while repeatedly failing to completely address problems they are paid to fix. This retail business is really vulnerable to the entry of a new, well equipped and staffed store that could afford to carry generous inventory and employ some decent riders with "people skills". While living in G'boro, I take my bikes to Chapel Hill, Boone and Asheville to find competent help who realize why these shops exist- to serve the community. read more

Came in to get broken cable fixed. One of the mechanics with a motor cycle helmet on was walking out. He took his helmet off walked me to the back and replaced my cable while I waited. Long story short; good place to buy something, awful place to get something fixed. Avoid the bike repair end of the shop at all costs! If they don't fix your bike they will probably make it worse if they do anything at all. Waste of money! read more

It's a local bike shop, service seems decent, inventory is good. Customer service leaves something to be desired. My husband and I have been riding since long before our kids arrived, commuting and road riding. We don't dress the bike-snob part, don't keep ourselves on shiny new bikes, and don't walk into the bike shop just to shop and drop cash. We come in for in-shop repairs, helmets, tires, patch kits, etc. Not big spenders, but we know about cycling. This shop has us longing for our neighborhood shop in Wilmington, NC that always treated us with respect, common decency, etc. Cycles de ORO staff seems dominated by those who exude the too-cool-for-you bike snob attitude. Been there half a dozen times now, and things haven't changed. We're looking for a friendly shop without the attitude. Yes, they have a lovely space, and they have what we need as avid cyclists. Unfortunately the staff seems to think they need to make sure that we know just how darn cool they are--too cool to give us more than cursory attention. Great shop with one critical element missing in a brick-and-mortar store... read more
