About five or so miles out of Manor on FM-973 lies this large well tended to cemetery. The first…read morething that struck me as odd was the fact that there are no trees on the property. This appears to still be an active cemetery as there are some recent burials here from the last few years and the most recent interment was from August 20, 2022. There's still plenty of room for more. Despite being surrounded on all sides by farmland, there is a new development in the area. This is a well laid out orderly graveyard with many family plot areas. Many of the names found on these stones are of German, Austrian and Swedish descent. There is no parking lot, but there is a gravel road perimeter that runs around the property. There is a decent size covered structure on the property capable of holding funeral services. There are a few graves from the late 1800s, but the majority are from the 20th-century. Two things I did not find are a Texas historical sign, and there were no CSA designated service member graves. Nor did I find any Woodmen of the world markers which are common in this area. I also saw no graves dedicated to the Pfluger or Boatright familys. If you desire to make this your forever home, you'll most likely have to contact the New Sweden Lutheran Church located in the vicinity, but not near the cemetery. I have to admit I've never done a cemetery review and I noticed there is no Yelp review of this…read morehistorical cemetery located near the center of Manor. The historical plaque posted at the entrance is well worth reading as it highlights the history of this resting place. The oldest person I could find interred here was born in 1796. The newest decedent that I could find deposited here died in 2022. The cemetery is fairly full but it looks like there's enough space left for another hundred plots. This is a nice quiet place to visit in spring time when the bluebonnets and other flowers are in bloom, although the noise of 290 can still be heard. There were many graves dedicated to the Woodmen of the world which may have been a trade union at the turn of the 20th century. There was even a confederate war memorial. So if you want a peaceful place to stroll amongst the formerly living or perhaps be interred here yourself, it's an easy place to walk through. I'm sure the local funeral home can give you the going rate for a plot here.

I did a wild cave tour without the extra charges that Longhorn collects. At Longhorn, our guide, Johnson did an amazing job with our small group of six people for the 10:45 AM tour. My brother and I initially registered for the 11:00 AM tour and am glad that we were suggested another time. We passed by the 11:00 AM tour and they had 40+ people in their group. Johnson showed us cool geological formations. We saw dolomite, calcium bicarbonate, chert, limestone, geodes, stalagmites, stalactites, and quartz crystals. Johnson is somewhat funny; he had a bit of quirky and dry humor. I enjoyed the history of the caverns, but some of it I thought was interesting. It was really delightful to learn that in the 1800's, before the CCC got involved, the locals would dance and play music turning the cave into an auditorium of entertainment. Johnson said that if certain geological formations glows, it is growing. Very catchy phase for memory. I got to see a few bats hanging out. They were tricolor bats which are smallest bats. The cave is cool, but thankfully not slippery. I was wearing no grip support shoes, but I didn't fall or have the urge to fall. There are mats on the floor of the cave to prevent falls. Johnson gave us more time to look around and admire the geology. My brother and I weren't required to bring our own flashlights. Johnson had a flashlight, but forgot to grab the blacklights. What I find is strange is that this is a state park that you cannot renew your state park pass at. This park headquarters is very different than the rest considering that there's a third party company handing the cave tours, they sell ice-cees, popcorn, and the gift shop is very big and vast. The others don't have this. It is questionable to me. I was told that I needed to go to Inks Lake to renew my pass. The cave tours are very pricey. Kickapoo Caverns tour was very affordable at $10. You can use the park pass. You can't get your state park passport stamped at Longhorn Caverns either. It seems like Longhorn Caverns is more for profit and the history about the cavern could be overly exaggerated to attract customers. My opinion. It was hard to believe half of the things what Johnson was telling us. There's one portion of geological formation in the cave that is "dead" because in year 1919, the locals went exploring by touching the formation it "killed" it. I preferred Kickapoo Caverns and the Caverns of Sonora a lot more. Even Inner Space Caverns and Natural Bridge were very exciting to see. Longhorn is cool, but didn't give me that WOW-factor, but I still had a ton of fun on a Sunday morning.

Our guide shared stories about the cavern's formations including the stalactites and stalagmites. My favourite spot was the Cathedral area with its open space and unique rock shapes. Above ground, the park is just as lovely. There are short trails around the park in the middle of Texas Hill Country. Whether you're into geology, history, or just looking for a cool escape from the Texas heat, Longhorn Cavern is worth the trip out of the city.

We had such an amazing time on Lake Travis thanks to Willo and Float On. Everything about the…read moreexperience was extremely streamlined from booking to filling out waivers to navigating to the marina. Willo gave superb instructions on operating and piloting the boat including an overview of relevant customs and laws while out on the water. Our group had six adults and one 2-year old and they had plenty of water safety devices for all ages. On a side note, it was wonderful to see how genuinely excited Willo was about Lake Travis once again having a healthy water level after several dry years. In terms of our experience on the lake, we got excellent advice on where to travel based on our team's interests and after following his directions it felt like we had arrived on our own private lake. We probably only saw a handful of other boats during our 3-hour excursion and that was only in passing. The boat came with a Garmin GPS that made it really easy to retrace our steps. For those wondering, there was excellent cell phone service out on the lake and we were able to use our phone GPS, make calls, and stream music. The boat had some nice integrated speakers with Bluetooth connectivity and we were able to jam out to our own tunes. There was also a cool flotation device attached to the back of the boat called the Aqua Lily Pad which we unrolled after anchoring, we had multiple adults laying on it without sinking into the lake. Overall, we could not have asked for a better experience and we would highly recommend booking with Float On.

For the rodeo, you can't beat this venue. I've only been here once but when comparing this setup to…read morethe San Antonio rodeo, this place is tops. There's not a bad seat in the house. We sat in the 200s and had a great view of the events and musical performers. The beer vendors were plentiful. The line for refreshments, merchandise and bathroom were all short. The restrooms were cleaner than you'd expect for a rodeo. Outside, the carnival was setup in a way that there was plenty of room for people to walk around. The only downer is that it's a pretty good trek from parking to expo center but parking only cost $5. I don't know what other events are held here but based on this experience it's a good spot to be for spectators.

The cemetery sits on 27 acres and at this writing is still being recovered from overgrown…read morevegetation. There are some dedicated volunteers who have spent years removing the overgrowth and trash that was dumped here. There is still a sizable section of the graveyard that is thoroughly hidden by trees and overgrowth. The cemetery was begun in 1893. This is primarily an African graveyard and there are former slaves buried here. Unfortunately there are many graves that do not have markers. It is believed there are about 700 to 1000 people buried in this acreage. One thing this property also has an abundance of are African white Irises and one of the last surviving areas of the Post oak trees. The sign that designates this graveyard is currently being replaced and there is yet no Texas historical marker either. This is still an active graveyard and there have been recent burials. I found out that about 10% of the graves here are of infants. There are also numerous veterans graves.

In the older part of Manor, you'll find the local City Hall. Unlike most small Texas towns where…read moreyou will find a prestigious ornate courthouse, that is not the case here. It's a single story structure surrounded by local residential homes. City Hall meetings are held here and they do have traffic court here as well. You can pay your bills here and check out the public announcement board outside to see the local happenings. It turns out that the new Manor City Hall will be relocating further down highway 290 sometime in 2027. Otherwise, this location has all the charm of the local post office.

If you've seen What's Eating Gilbert Grape chances are you seen the town and not even known it because the movie was film mostly here the in town, Elgin, and Lockhart Texas. If passing through town you can pretty much see the entire town going down parsons st. I would recommend stopping by Ramos if your craving Mexican food , check out the grocery store on the corner that's the grocery store that Johnny Depp worked at in the movie, and you can also see the water tower that leo was climbing up. For those hot days check out the wonderful sno cone stand that's located on the corner behind Sonic.
