I love the pine trees and views from some of the trails. The campground is lovely as well. Very clean. Spaces are large. People are respectful. But... A big con is the traffic noise at night! We stayed in the Copperas Creek Camping Area, which is quite close to the road, so we expected some noise. But it was intense both noise. A loud, long crash woke me up in the middle of the night, with a second crash crashing into the debris from the first one. That whole incident kept me up for 2 hours. I don't know if the other campgrounds in the park are any better. The park is nestled in a populated area so I doubt it. But the trails and area are beautiful!! So I would definitely recommend for hiking!! Not so much tent camping... (maybe it's better in an RV?).

It's less than a 2-hour drive from Houston and under an hour from Austin, which makes it an easy add to a road trip. I especially appreciated that the entrance is right off Highway 71, so you're not wasting a bunch of time driving deep into back roads just to get to the park. We visited on a beautiful Saturday in January -- sunny and in the 50s, basically perfect hiking weather. While there are plenty of trees throughout the park, many of the trails are fairly exposed, so you get a lot of sun. Definitely bring sunscreen, even in cooler weather. The trails are wide and well-maintained, with sand and rocks laid down in many areas, making them easy to walk. The terrain is nicely hilly but nothing too difficult (we did about 4 miles total). One thing to note: trail signage is a bit limited, and it would be easy to get turned around and know where to turn. Thankfully, I had decent cell reception (T-Mobile) and was able to use Google Maps to track where we were. Parking was easy, the staff were friendly, and the landscape was beautiful. We used our Texas State Parks annual pass, which saved us the $15 entrance fee, and the entry process was quick and simple. The line of cars trying to get in was only 2. I'd love to come back in the spring when everything is blooming. Overall, a great stop if you want scenic views, manageable trails, and a convenient location. Highly recommend if you're on your way to Houston or Austin. There's also a Buccees just a few miles away!

I have a different story about Bastrop Sheriff Office Maurice Cook the corruption begins with him…read more I have been trying to get cases that was dismissed off my record for sometime now. Also reports I had no knowledge about, Some over a decade ago just to be giving the runarounds from the legal system. I Was granted expungements of all cases I was not found guilty of over 10 years ago in Bastrop County, I through they were disposed of, but in 2022 when applying for employment I found out they were indeed still on my records, with Bastrop County but DPS and FBI records they were disposed like the judge ordered. I have been fired for this. And when applying for another job opportunity, I was disqualified and the detective of the employment was kind enough to inform me of his findings. I immediately called Bastrop County and I being treated as a not important matter. I have one criminal convictions, Reckless Driving, yet I'm unable to keep employment because expunged ordered records still exist. It's not right. Please read the emails below. I feel my rights are being violated. Cook, is refusing to remove cases, him talking to me as if I'm foolish. Asking me for documents of the expungements. When he knows in law it states all records be destroyed. So he knows there is no way to produce documents he's requesting. I very furious and frustrated at the justice system. They find away to hold us back. If you're not guilty why is there even documents on file. Money and greed. Also how does one? How does only the Sheriff Department has records still on file and this is the only Department that is not overseen by anyone but the voting of the citizens? I'm very woke.and very aware. I will make this public on very social media that allows me too. I advocate for middle case and keep them aware of mess like this. Mark Cook I am very troubled and disturbed by your actions. I was blaming Dawn Adams but she was only releasing what the Bastrop County Sheriff has on file. After reading complaints and lawsuits, this seems to be a problem with record keeping in Bastrop County. Transparency is not. And since Cook doesn't have to answer he doesn't care about others livelihood

My love for this musical brought me to Bastrop (and I'm glad it did!) I loved how they performed Fiddler on the Roof! It was phenomenal!!! It matched exactly from the 1971 movie. I have this movie on VHS and watch it every month because I love it so much!! Every scene was as if I was watching the movie. Lisa Holcomb is an amazing director and trained the performers well. If you're a history buff or admire antiques, you'll love the Bastrop Opera House built in 1889. The parking can be limited in Downtown and in historic district, so I took an Uber from the Airbnb I stayed at. During intermission, I went to check out the ladies restroom and it was severely cramped. It reminded me of an old church restroom: three stalls with doors so close to the toilet. Whether you sit or squat, your knees are at the door. A primary sink and a line out the door. So, there's some discomfort there! I want to mention that the seating inside the opera house is comfortable, but the chairs are close together. I reserved seat E1 which is the last seat of the row, so each time someone from the middle needed to leave. I had to get up to let them out. That was a bit much. Seats sell out quickly, but if you travel solo you can find something last minute. Anyways, I'll be attending the upcoming show of Rent (another one of my favorite musical) here. I wanted to see Dial M for Murder by Alfred Hitchcock, but I'll have to catch it another time.
