This appears to be an active graveyard, as there are some recent burials here with plenty of surrounding space for more. There is a single pave lane that runs through the center of the property. As you would expect, there are many Freemason symbols on headstones, along with the graves of veterans from earlier wars. There are also many family plots ringed by concrete borders. The cemetery is relatively well cared for, but the noise of I 35 not far away detracts from the peace. This cemetery sits several miles outside the Manor city limits. It's one of those "in the middle of…read morenowhere" cemeteries surrounded on all sides by the quiet Texas countryside. It's fairly small, sitting on about 2 acres more or less. This is still an active cemetery with some recent interments. There are many of the newer headstones depicting the photos of those interred. As a result, it would be logical to assume this is primarily an African-American cemetery. Many of the older markers are either toppled or in some state of disrepair. The cemetery has a lot of randomness to it according to how the graves are laid out. Most of the graves are made of granite, but there are some from the early 20th century cast in concrete, a cheaper material. The oldest grave I could find was from 1897. The one predominant name I found here was the name Morrow. If you're looking for a peaceful place in the country to make your forever home, this would be a good choice.

The SKy Tower is an interesting structure located on Hart Lane near MOPAC and Spicewood Springs…read moreRoad. One of my Yelp friends said sky Tower was a must see modern structure in Austin, Texas. My hubby and I decided to check it out. It is an interesting structure however we were not so sure why. It looked like a tower, but no other uniquely distinguishing characteristics. The color is a brown rust color, so do very distinctive nor memorable. There was an abstract mural on the side of the building next to the sky tower, which was eye-catching. We were spending Sunday afternoon together to smell the roses, not literally but figuratively. It is nice sometimes, to get out the house, drive some place, get out of the car and take in natural beauty.

There are approximately 1.8 million Mexican Freetail Bats living under this bridge. Compared to…read moreCongress Bridge, that's 300,000 more bats! Although there are more bats living here, viewing the nightly emergence can be a hit or miss because they can swarm out from various locations under the bridge. Sometimes, it can be so far out that you might miss it. You might get lucky though and they emerge closer. Spectators commonly park at NAPA auto parts (free parking) and wait for the bats from the grassy lawn up front, however on both occasions we went, the bats emerged so far away that it was hard to see. People say that they do fly closer by, but we didn't have much luck. What's the best time to go? It really varies. Generally they emerge at dusk, but it's unknown what causes them to do so. Last time they came out at around 8:30 pm the day before we arrived (mid-May), however it can vary. A fun fact is that the Red Tail Hawks have a better knowledge of when they are about to come out because they feed on them - once you see a few hawks flying around, you'll know it's about time. When's the best date to go? They say "Begin arriving in late February until about May...". TIPS: -You can bring a picnic blanket and chairs. -Park at NAPA Auto Parts -It's not too crowded and kid friendly. -Friday nights there are some friendly volunteers that give really cool facts about bats! -The train tracks bring loud trains rolling by. -Headlights from traffic can be a little annoying but it's not too bad. -Understand that the emergence is not a guarantee but you can still see, hear, (and smell) the bats easily. -This place isn't as popular as Congress Bridge yet, but some people say it's even better. Way less crowded and easy free parking. Just no guarantee to see bat emergence.

Getting lost can yield good results sometimes. I was in route to another destination and just…read morehappened into this marker. It outlines some history of Cedar Park. Pretty cool... Inscription: "In 1873, George and Harriet (Standefer) Cluck purchased a large amount of land in this area, which they found to be rich in cedar trees and limestone. Their ranch and home became the central point around which the Cedar Park community developed. A post office was established in 1874 and was named Running Brushy. Harriet Cluck served as an early postmistress. When the railroad came through Running Brushy in 1882, the community's name was changed to Bruggerhoff to honor a railroad official. Five years later, the current name was adopted. Cedar Park was the scene of much growth and activity during the latter years of the nineteenth century. A community school and church building was constructed, and by 1892, a landscaped park had appeared along the rail line. George Cluck noticed the increasing popularity of barbed wire and opened a cedar yard in which he made and sold cedar posts. Cedar Park did not see much growth during the first part of the twentieth century, and by 1960 nearly all traces of the earlier community had disappeared. During the 1970s, however, the growth of Austin led to a population increase in this area, also, and the city of Cedar Park was incorporated in 1973."
