Walk into the retro-looking, Western themed dining room, and you'll see a huge menu board above the order counter. There is are several freestyle soda machines in the middle of the room. There are little digital screens in the corner where you watch for your order number and a counter in the corner where you go pick up your food. It's not until you go into the next room that you discover there is another "next room," and then another. There is a lot of art on the walls, including several John Wayne pictures. The girl at the counter who took our order was an absolute ray of sunshine--so friendly and sweet. We ordered the green chili cheeseburger with onion rings and the daily special which is the "green pile-up" (beans, hash browns, scrambled egg, and green chili beef). The good came our talented quickly, and was quite yummy. Frontier is an Albuquerque classic. If it old? Yes, but it has a huge faithful following, not including the things of UNM students that pack this giant diner during the school year. I've been hitting all the spots I can and being very strategic about the food stops. This place is nostalgic, historic, and right along the way in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It gives you all the old-school diner vibes immediately. I will say, all the young ladies working there were extremely nice, and the service was great. It definitely passes the vibes test. The burger tasted like that classic all-American diner burger. Not too greasy, but not trying to be some "beyond meat" situation either. Just good stuff. The fries were great, and very, very, very importantly: it passes the ranch test. We had a side salad with ranch, and the ranch tasted good on the salad and even better with the fries dipped in it. We also had the 66 Burger, which comes with green chiles. I had never had that on a burger before, but it was a really good twist and a nice local touch. Green chiles seem to be a big thing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so it was cool to try that there. The onion rings were great too. If I hadn't been so full, and if it wasn't noon with eight more hours of driving ahead of us, I definitely would've gotten a shake too. All in all, absolutely great classic Route 66 vibes. The "cup of fruit" consisted of about 8 grapes and were all sticky and stuck together like they had been in there a while. I called to tell them about the eggs and to see if he could just get an order of scrambled eggs because he needed to take an insulin shot. The "lady" was extremely rude and said "she would allow it just this once". Forty five minutes later his cold scrambled eggs arrived. Luckily he was in the process of getting released so "just this once" was all we needed...for now.

I asked for the code to the restroom and the staff was asking me to show them a receipt and telling me the restrooms were for paying customers only. I understood but when I tried explaining that I was a customer because I ate at the stackers they demanded I show them a receipt. Had I known I was going to need proof I wouldn't have thrown my receipt. I told both the vendors I spoke with I'm not digging in the trash to find my receipt. I got so frustrated after the second vendor that I just gave up and left. I don't think I'll be returning here for a while.
