what a great shop. a classic record store. the selection is deep, the prices are fair, and if you're into digging, there's chaos to dig through too. the clerks are ... usually helpful. i mean, like i said, old school record store. if you're looking for values on old rock records, this place RULES. but they've got plenty of other things too. i go to a ton of record stores, and this one is too shelf for me. read more

The staff members are the worst. They made an offer of .50 cents TRADE per item on my cds. Most of the staff probably makes $13 an hr, and are not even worth that. Not sure how this place stays in business. I will sell my stuff online and buy online. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. read more

Found a re pressing of Uriah Heep I'm happy with. The selection in new vinyl could be better. Used vinyl is terrible. Sorry, but I just didn't see the worth in digging through beat up records on the floor, my knees. Prices are fair read more

Super rude staff don't waste your time and money here. Went against specific rules about a special limited quantity signed vinyl release and reserved them over phone the day before. Mind the rules stated they weren't even allowed to TALK about the vinyl until day of release. People including myself were camped out for hours just to be met with an incredibly rude staff member, Vic, who told us we were wasting our time and instead of taking accountability blamed it on the customers and artist. read more

I absolutely love this place! Been shopping here for YEARS. I consider myself fortunate to live so close to a record store, which is becoming a rare find these days. They have a HUGE selection of both old and new music. I could spend all day exploring their inventory and still not see everything. Being old school, I enjoy physically owning my favorite music, whether on CD or vinyl. Every time I stop in, I find something cool. Service is great, if they don't have a particular item, they will look it up and order it for you. I will always support them, and I hope they remain in business for years to come. read more

If you're in the Cleveland area, this record shop is worth stopping at. They've been around forever and offer a wide selection of cassettes, CD, vinyl and collectibles. They do not however carry any turntable accessories, which was surprising. Overall a pleasant shopping experience aside from the fact that the shop was super busy. read more

I went in here to see about selling some CDs the lady was not nice she was talking to me crazy asking me why was she waste her day and time and I just think her customer service and her behavior was very rude and I would not recommend anyone going into her store spending your money with someone that is rude. I just needed to add some more I started reading reviews and I see where they're talking about how rude the staff and I don't care if you purchase any of my CDs it is about the way you was speaking to me and I didn't appreciate it and you just walked away from the counter you didn't say bye you didn't thank me for stopping in you just walked away like you don't even give a f that I'm even in your store what type of s*** is that you rude as hell read more

Just recently my nine-year-old told me he was really sick of listening to Hits 1 on x m. He said that I want to listen to the music you listen to Growing Up. So now I've got a kid who is infatuated with Aerosmith ACDC Led Zeppelin and Van Halen which is awesome. This led to a discussion about which music I downloaded as a kid and I had to explain to him that I did not download music as a kid we went to a record store and flip to the records and bought albums. Sometimes you about 45 since sometimes you bought 33 Lp records. I've always given past Record Den but I never made a conscious effort to stop in because I didn't have a record player. Like most people my age most of my albums are long gone thanks to a mother who likes to throw stuff away. So we ended up going to this particular record in and flipping through the album's where we found an Aerosmith album which appeared to be a repressing of the original album which actually I'm okay with and I really wanted it but it was 28 freaking dollars. Well I can appreciate the Resurgence of vinyl $28 was a tad Hefty. my boy however was able to pick up the soundtrack two Guardians of the Galaxy which has some of his favorite songs on there like Redbone. All the people that work there a pretty knowledgeable know where everything is but my only gripe is that it is kind of hyper expensive. Not that I Won't Go Back read more

Record Den - Entrance - Music & DVDs Near Me - Mentor, Ohio

If you are in the mood for deep(er) digging, you should give the Record Den a spin (check out that vinyl tie-in line!). They are a touch removed from the metro Cleveland area we stayed in, but not too far as to prohibit a drop-by to their venerable location. Tons and tons of new stock. Borderline metric tonnage. So if that is your thing, this is probably the most well-stocked store of brand new and recently released/re-issues around. At the time of our visit they still were in possession of very healthy stock of RSD 2018 titles - like almost hard to believe levels of stock. So if you are looking for those and are reading this review in a relatively timely fashion, rip it! I found the used selections average, with nothing particularly standing out to me. There is a lot of layering so digging requires some nimble moves and dedication. If I were guessing I'd say they focus more on new buys and releases that used inventory. There was a cheap bin at the front of the store to dig, but not a traditional dollar bin. I think maybe $3-5 per title there. Pricing was about market average on most things. Nothing super noteworthy (high or low) that gave me the feels. I only got one small item while here. I will say this was the first store I've ever been to that charged me (99 cents) for a store sticker. That was a first. (Meh plus, dudes). All in all, a decent shop. Not sure I'd go back if passing through town though. read more

See all

A classic record store, and a treasure chest of music. You can get lost for hours in this place, and still only begin to scratch the surface of all they have in stock. An over abundance of riches. They have all kinds of formats (vinyl, tapes, CDs, DVDs) and accessories (shirts, incense, record slip or dust covers, CD cases, etc.) and at all price levels--from the cheapest bargains to luxurious wallet-emptying box sets. Honestly...it doesn't get better than this, folks! read more

A genuine record store, indeed! If it's on vinyl, The Den has it or will get it. Wanna talk music? Absolutely! Greg, Vic, Chelsea and Steve know music from the 50's right up to today. A most welcoming place for folks of all ages and tastes in music. Mentor should count its lucky stars that it can boast of the best record store this side of wherever :) Peace. read more

rude employees. got signed vinyls from a popular artist that should've been first come first serve to the customers but instead reserved them for themselves read more

It was pretty hard to dig the records, coz there are so many lack.... Here is good for some new staff and some rock music I felt. Not so many soul and R&B stuff here. read more

Very organized everything from old classical to new rap helpful the staff doesn't talk to you and annoy you cheap prices, good selection

I don't want to call it a "record store", because it sells so much more. But that is what I knew it as. I have patronized this store since it hid out in Newberry's department store over in the mall, back in the 70's. The owner, a huge Paul McCartney fan like myself, always had the most incredible selection. Whatever you wanted, he would get it. Back before the internet, that was something in itself. Of course, like all good 1970s era record shops, Record Den sold all the stuff you had to have to properly listen to the music of the time: black light posters, incense, and t-shirts. They probably sold roach clips and water pipes at one time, most of these places did. But the best thing about this store is the large selection of "imports". This store still sells vinyl, which as any music lover knows, is superior to the throwaway cd in its flimsy case. The incense, t-shirts and posters are still for sale, along with bins and bins of cds and even cassette tapes. I still visit Record Den when I go home, just to pick up an "import" for old-times sake, even though I can easily find them on the internet. The internet doesn't have the owner, his love for music or an old Abbey Road poster on the wall. read more

Great selection, totally laid back atmosphere. They have a huge selection of new material as well as a plethora of used stacks to dig through. Price is as to be expected, sure you might get it for a few bucks cheaper on Amazon but coming here is an experience! read more

The store was not busy when I visited today but the staff was less than helpful. The used records were a disorganized mess and the store a chore to navigate without the assistance that I requested. I ended up putting the handful of holiday records I had dug up back, and left. Don't think I'll be back. read more

Very helpful staff who were patient and willing to talk about all the albums I was stuck between. Great vibe in the store too!

Good selection, plethora of box sets, business is run by a really nice fellow who is fighting the fight for physical media. Support this shop! read more

Prices were very high, staff was zero help. Won't return.

I'm a native lake-countyite, so i spent most of my twenties digging thru heaps of vinyl and quality used cd's in this DEN of iniquity(sorry). I live on the west side now, but whenever i visit my east side hillfolk family, i stop in to buy vinyl on the cheap. Ten bucks will get you a handful of decent tunes. i have also found some rare psychedelic gems buried in there. The staff is a delight (same guys for the last 15 odd years). New cd"s are a tad pricy. That's my only complaint. But they do also have deep discount sale items to make up for it. Close to long john silvers for all you rocknroll sea captains. read more

Record Den is an indie slice of music nirvana. Audiophiles travel near and far to visit this North Coast musical mecca. If they don't have it in stock they'll find it for you. Speaking of... Record Den paticipates in the yearly much ballyhooed Record Store Day. Stop in and find some cool numbered vinyl discs for your collection. read more

Hands down the best (rock) record store in Cleveland area. New rock vinyl selection is large, for Cleveland, and CD selection is also very good. Don't go looking for jazz, classical, or blues -- you won't find it here. read more

This place is the absolute best record store in Lake County if not all of the greater Cleveland area. I grew up shopping here and anywhere else just doesn't even come close. I live a half hour away now and still manage to get out here to shop from time to time. read more

Difficult to move around or easily search through the vinyl section. Not for anyone with dust allergies or physical disabilities. Once I finally found an item, they told me that they don't accept any debit card purchases under $5, which the Visa Merchant page explicitly states is a violation of their rules, as debit cards are not covered under the law allowing minimum credit card purchases. Overall a disappointing experience. read more

Best record store still standing in Northeast Ohio! Good selection of imports, lots of bargain/cut-out CD's, good selection of vinyl (new and used) and lots of boxed sets and special editions. Friendly and knowledgeable staff makes it worth the trip even if live a ways away. read more

I feel like I've grown up here. My father is friends with the owner and I've been coming here since the 1990s. They always have a great selection and there's so much to see! And I'll never complain about getting Season 3 for Trueblood here for 6.99! read more

They sure got the selection of metal and prog. And it's the metalheads and progheads that give them their business. It would be nice if they showed us a little respect, maybe play some of that music in the store, recommend some stuff that's up our alley. I listen in the store on yt through headphones before I buy a record or CD. I can't do that if Record Den is blasting gangster music degrading to women and I can't even hear the likes of Jon Anderson's beautiful voice in my headphones. Yeah there is a definite lack of customer respect over there read more

Used and New/RSD LPs, 45s and CDs. Messy, cluttered and smells of incense. I visit one to two times a year to dig (spending 2-3 hours) and always come away with some interesting stuff. Slow stock turn-over. Prices on used LPs and 45s are good. read more

The best record store for 100's of miles. Best for vinyl and box sets. If you are having a hard time finding something this is the place.

The stock is massive. It's obvious they got huge excess record store stock in past past when you see 30 or the same 45's. It's got movies, cd's, 45's, cleaning stuff. It sells a lot of new vinyl. The problem was quality older vinyl there just wasn't much of it. read more
