I have bought records here, bought equipment, and have had high end gear serviced here. Never once…read morean issue. Dave is as solid as they come. He stands by his products, he turns around his service repairs quickly and he knows his stuff. Amazing used selection of vinyl, and some great new stuff too. I can't walk out of here without a giant stack of wax. The back area of the store has fully refurbished audio equipment where you can find some great deals. All serviced by Dave himself. I have purchased at least 3 turntables from that back wall, and felt comfortable handing them off to someone else after I upgraded again. I had a Nikko receiver serviced most recently. It had some issues but this is the receiver my old man used to listen to the ball games on when I was a kid growing up. It's not some top of the line tube amp, but for me this was about the memories of that old blue light receivers warm glow and that crackle and pop of the vinyl. I got to listen to the Tribe in the playoffs on that thing this year, they unfortunately lost to the damn Yankees, just like my pop would have done back in the 70's when that Nikko was new out of the box. Except the Indians sucked in the 70's, but the receiver regardless of Indians wins and losses is the real winner. What I am trying to say is Vinyl Groove is the best in the area for servicing vintage audio equipment. Nikko to McIntosh every piece of equipment matters to someone and Dave is the best in the area to bring back old audio equipment and old memories.

Would definitely not recommend ordering from them. I placed…read morean order in July that contained 3 pre orders and one in stock record. I received all 3 of my preorders in September but never received the 4th album. I emailed about the missing record on Sept 21st. I received a response the same day that claimed it would ship out soon. I reached out again Oct 13th because I still hadn't received it or gotten any update on my order. I did receive a response the next day telling me that the title had actually been delayed and they would let me know when they received the new release date. The issue with that is the missing item was released in 2022. It wasn't a pre order. I responded saying that and never heard anything back. I reached out again on Oct 18th and finally just asked for a refund. No response. It took me commenting on every post of theirs to finally actually receive a refund today, Oct 23rd. I'm assuming there was a mix up and the record I purchased was accidentally sold. I get it, things happen. While not ideal, if they had communicated and been transparent about what happened and just issued me a refund I would've understood. Instead I was given the runaround and then just completely ignored. Then they responded to my review calling me childish- even though the only reason I was ever refunded finally was bc I started commenting on social media. I tried going through the proper channels via email and was ignored ‍

My son and I love vinyl. I'm a '70s kid from high school and college, so I know a lot of music…read more We've been to several record shops. This one has to be our favorite. The guy at the counter was super friendly, and just reeked Cool. He loves the rescue cat that roams the stores. He even has a coin box and poster explaining a cat rescue group. I like that compassion. The shop is cool with album covers on the floor. That is an art piece in itself. Today is my birthday, and my son is buying. First on the list is Jefferson Starship's Red Octopus. Other shops have told us the album is hard to find, sells fast, expensive. We found it!!!! The price was very good!!! I'm ecstatic! Also got The Doors, Three Dog Night, and Gordon Lightfoot. I've heard about Robin Trower, so I got one of his albums. They have a listening turntable with headphones that I used. There is a group of nostalgic records that were goofy and fun. A small stage is for anyone to perform. Inquire at the store.

These guys are incredibly nice and accommodating. I called to ask about selling some records and…read moreNoah answered. He was friendly, courteous and patient as I mentioned what I had to sell. Also, honest. The day I arrived I could not remember exactly where the store was, so I called again. Noah was very kind again and narrowed it down. Upon entry Noah was very friendly and helpful. He smiled and we laughed at some of the goofiness I entered the store with. I think I had two LP boxes, and Noah came to aid. Pete the owner came out at some point and amidst all the small talk, you could tell these folks are what small independent places need. They went through my stuff and we'd have some small chats todo about nothing really. I can babble when I sense friendliness. Save in point if you're reading the review. You could see the regulars that come by, other folks... and just a genuine cool place with a cool owner and co-worker. They could teach a graduate school class on customer service. We need that lately it seems! On a scale of 1-5 they should get a 10 for just being human and humane. As I was leaving Pete and I had a very cool, relatively personal conversation which was very endearing. So if you're on the east side of CLE or early for a show at the Beachland on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday... check em out!

What a cool vintage record shop…read more I stopped in here with nothing special in mind other than to browse on a rainy day. The store is well organized and I was excited to see they had a local section and some more niche categories. There's a LOT of inventory, like, a lot. If you're a seasoned collector looking for older gems, you're going to have a field day here. In the back, they had some kitschy old school records that had me laughing out loud (aka, How To Strip For Your Husband, Mommy Where Do Babies Come From, etc.) The space itself has a live record playing spinning tunes, and in the back corner, they rent(?) a room to The Buckland Gallery of Witchcraft and Magick. Yes, you read that correctly. I freaking love that. I don't actually know who runs it (no one greeted me, and I couldn't tell who worked there), so don't be discouraged if you walk in and feel out of place. I always think its nice connect with staff, but I really don't care either way, though some people might! A Separate Reality is absolutely worth a stop into. If you have a record aficionado in your life, a gift card would be a top-notch win of a present. They take a lot of pride in their collection here.

The records are fairly priced, especially for their condition, and their collection smacks of good taste, with an especially interesting soul section. This is a record store that someone who own 2K records will still find something they haven't seen before.

If you're looking for anything resembling popular music, don't come here. You will be disappointed…read more If you're looking, however, for dance, electronic, or experimental music, this is the right place. The owner is, shall we say, a bit prickly. He sized me up the second I walked in. Because I've been going to record stores for years and have encountered music snobs more than once, this amused me more than anything. Once I pulled out a DJ Stingray (legendary techno DJ from Detroit) album, he knew I wasn't a noob. He got further confirmation when I asked about some Fennesz (amazing Austrian experimental guitarist) albums. Once you get him going about music, he warms up. Bent Crayon has very hard-to-find titles like Drexciya (iconic sci-fi techno duo from Detroit) reissues, the latest from Perlon (dance music label in Berlin), the Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, or other left-field music. Bent Crayon is mostly vinyl but also has a solid selection of CDs. Fair warning: The corner shelves of experimental music are alphabetized but the rest of the store follows a mysterious organizational logic. In other words, you have to dig, not scan. I bought reissues of Stingray's Aqua Team 2, Drexciya's Harnessed the Storm, and Cluster's Zuckerzeit (Cluster was an electronic music duo from Germany who worked a bunch with Brian Eno). Bent Crayon is not for everyone, but it's still pretty rad.
