Hubby and I have been to this location twice. The first time was to check it out and sign up for a CPL class - which were full for January. When we first walked in not one of the four employees greeted us but after walking up to one he was very knowledgeable. In fact, two of the employees we talked to were. We left there without signing up for a class but kept our eyes on their FB page for feb and March classes to be announced. Which I didn't see happen. Classes have to be signed up for in person. We went yesterday (January 30) and all of February and March were already filled. How did people know about these classes? Did they walk in daily? Crazy!! I was annoyed. The dark haired women we walked up to about the class was very short with us. Her response to the classes being full was a rude, "Well it is a popular class". End of that conversation. We decided to shoot at the range. They have you fill out an application and watch an 8 min video first. This was good for us but I can see how the video would be a waste of time for experienced shooters. The ammunition was $40 for 50 rounds!!! I didn't know the going cost, but today we went to another range and they sold the same for $25. Huge markup at Recoil. The cost of the range was also higher. After visiting another range today, we made a choice that we will not be going back to Recoil. Based on the prices, rude employee, and limited availability of classes. The staff is great. They are friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to help. One issue is they insist on checking your ammo to see if there are any steel casings. I have been going there long enough that the staff knows me & should know by now that I don't use steel casings & that I will not use them in the future. But still they insist on searching my range bag. The most significant negative experience at this business is Sue. From the time you enter the shop you are greeted by a scowl. There is no hello or smile to make you feel that you are a valued customer. Just the look that says she does not care to assit you with anything. My solution is not to patronize this business. Me and my friend decided to go in as I am looking to purchase a new firearm. When we arrived we had to wait outside (which is understandable given the current Covid-19 situation) However, while we where waiting two gentlemen walked in and when we tried the greater told us to wait (keep in mind these two men where not in line waiting like the rest of us. After we where finally allowed to go in we waited around the sales counter for about 30 to 45 minutes waiting for some one to help us (we even asked a couple of times) and no one helped or acknowledged us. now this would be fine if they where super busy however, they were not so this was uncalled for especially when they had 3 people sitting around not doing any thing, they where just sitting around talking while the other two people where working the sales counter and the range counter. Another thing is their selection, it was extremely was severely limited compared to other gun stores and ranges that I have been to... I'm sorry what exactly do you sell here because I counted like 15 firearms in the cases and on the wall. Their was this skinny guy with piercings that looked right at us when I asked him for help and he just shook his head no and went back to doing what ever it was that he was doing. Either way I was not pleased and I doubt I will be back I felt that the staff was rude, Staff did not seem interested in engaging the customers, the firearms displayed where super pricey and I have found better deals for the same brands elsewhere, and to be honest I don't appreciate being ignored there are other shops who would and has earned my business. read more

I hadn't read any reviews before going. They had a deal for the range, I jumped on it. The staff has been pretty friendly and helpful. I took my daughter there for her first time shooting and Pam offered her personal headwear ear protection to help protect my daughter's ears and possible reactions to the gunshots. This was above and beyond. The younger gentleman was also very informative when I asked him about various handguns as was the older gentleman. Their help, kindness and professionalism is invaluable. Made the mistake of buying handguns from here they had no ammo at the time even though they said they would hold some for me. I went back when they had more and the assistant manager told me he wouldn't sell me ammo unless I bought another gun. He said that he did remember that they had no ammo for me when made my purchase. Visited with a friend for the first time recently. Friendly staff. Clean and well lit in the retail area. Wide selection as well. VERY safety conscious. Pricing is pretty decent across the board. Onto the range.... Nice amount of lanes. Distance and lighting were both nice as well. My only complaint, and yes it stood out THAT badly to receive 2 stars, was the ventilation. A 36" shop fan blowing up my rear end while training is not what I want. Nor is having to step out to clear my nose because the air is so thick on the range. Yes. It's bad enough to not return. I range train very often, and enjoy checking out new places. But won't be returning here. When someone 4 down lanes from me is using an RDL, and I can see the laser trail from pistol to target as clear as day, that's a problem. There are plenty of ranges. Find one you don't need an O2 tank to breathe in. Again, short of their range, it is a nice place. Buy there. Shoot/train elsewhere. **UPDATE** I decided to come back in and speak with a manager regarding my experience at Recoil. My wife and I stopped in last evening. As we walked up from the parking lot, there was an employee smoking just outside the door talking with a friend. We get inside to find a line. After waiting for however long it was, I was greeted by an employee. I told him that I was supposed to speak with a manager or the owner. I was told to speak with the guy "with the baseball hat on." The same guy that was smoking outside basically ignoring the customers in line. I began to speak with him about my prior poor experience. As I was explaining this experience to him, I mentioned that I was interested in a CPL course with them as a way for me to give them a second chance at a first impression. The poor attitude of this "manager" was unbelievable. His attitude was enough for my wife and I to just walk out mid-conversation. My wife, being the more level headed one when it comes to poor customer service, said to have me leave my name and number ,and ask for the owner to call me, so I could explain exactly what happened during my first visit, as well as my LAST visit to this place. No call as of yet. In all, stay away from this place. Horrible ventilation in the range, and garbage for management are a bad mix. There are countless other locations to patronize. If you're thinking about shooting a gun for the first time this would have to be the worst place to go. After explaining how my girlfriend is a new shooter and is very unsure about stuff they placed us in a booth right next to someone else not only that but he was shooting a high caliber which obviously the noise was startling my girlfriend and it made her not want to shoot (she was only shooting a 22 short) needless to say she fired two bullets in total and that was our entire experience because every time he shot she was on the verge of tears. (Before you hate shes scared of guns and was willing to give it a shot and this has turned into a situation where she probably will never touch another gun. I can dig this place. I come here now a lot more than the other range (nothing wrong with other range) in the area because it's closer to Allen Park and it's well, cool. It's a change of pace and they have everything you need. The lanes are safe and clean, the store is clean, organized and the staff is knowledgeable. Everything in the store is within reason in price. Welcomed me into their store and was very friendly and respectful. Took a lot of time to answer my questions and counsel me on the best gun to fit me. Their prices are extremely competitive and I found to be lower than most. Their gun range I visited in winter and was able to take off my coat and shoot in short sleeves so very comfortable. Another huge plus was they offer a 90 day lay away program. Especially helpful when you go in expecting to make a small purchase but end up making a large price purchase. Recoil firearms falsely and illegally sold me a pistol (CMR-30) as a rifle and refused to give me the proper paperwork to register it after I contacted them about it. This breaks state law. Yesterday, on 4/8/2018 I purchased a CMR-30 from this place. The staff was nice, but apparently also don't know the law. It was sold to me as a rifle. I got home, measured it, and come to find out it's 22" with the stock collapsed and can fire that way, so according to MICHIGAN law, it HAS to be registered as a pistol. I called the state police, and they confirmed. Told me to contact the store and have them fix it immediately. I contacted the store, a lady answered, and she was EXTREMELY rude. She tried to say that since it had a stock, it couldn't be a Michigan pistol, which is false, considering SBR's in Michigan also have to be registered as Pistols. How do I know this, but she doesn't? I tried to explain the law to her, and tell her that the State Police themselves confirmed it, and she acted like an idiot and kept citing federal law instead (Which has absolutely no affect on Michigan law regarding registering handguns, by the way) and after a few minutes I gave up. What if someone buys this as a rifle, and sells it privately? It's a pistol. If they sell it privately to someone without a CPL because they think it's a rifle, they become a felon! I contacted the MSP again today, and they had me fill out a pistol registration form and just put "refused to sign" under seller signature, and told me that they'd be sending the report up to the supervisor because what Recoil did was definitely in violation of the law. You're an FFL, you SHOULD KNOW THE LAWS BETTER THAN ANYONE. I tried to settle this without involving the police, but you left me with no choice since I don't want to have an unregistered handgun! I can't imagine how many of these they have sold as rifles, and how many people they've screwed over that didn't know better. Good luck staying in business. It's sad because the one employee I dealt with (Gideon I think?) was probably the nicest gun store employee I've ever dealt with! read more

I just had my first visit to Recoil Firearms under their "new" owners. I was just in to check out the range and maybe rent an LC9 if they had one. The staff there was very friendly and the prices were very reasonable. For 30 minutes on the lane, the pistol rental, and ammo I spent $30. That is not bad! The range facilities were pretty good too. I like the target mounting system they have in place over the clips they use at Top Gun. I can see myself stopping by here often. The last thing I want to mention is that Recoil seems to take firearms safety much more seriously than the last owners. Recoil asks all shooters to fill out a range safety form and watch a short video on their first visit. This may be a bit of an inconvenience for the experienced shooter, but it's good to know that new shooters are giving the information they need to shoot safely. read more

very racist. rude. disrespectful. i had an online order sent to them to transfer, my phone gets an alert when my order arrived. so i went to pick it up 45 mins later. from the moment i walked through the door i was treated rudely. the old caucasian woman behind the counter said what do you need as i walked in to her opening my packages, so i replied just here to pick up my order and i think that actually might be it. she gave me a dirty look anf said its not ready come back in 2 hours. so i actually waited 3 hours and called only to find out from the man that answered the phone she sent my order back. then shr gets on the phone with her nasty attitude saying she won't do more than one transfer at a time like its some rule but little does she know i was actually there weeks prior anf the man that helped me transfer 2 9mm no problem in 20 mins time. she judged me and my wife the minute we walked through the door. so all i can say is that if you are not white i wouldn't bother going there because they will treat you like your some type of worthless criminal. its sad that this is the world we live in but to that nasty natured woman she really didn't stop a thing. my guns were sent to a respectable business and i was fully taken care of it. so your basically just cock blocking your own business. read more

Very racist. Went in with my friends and was immediately met with weird looks. I was telling my friend how my gun was heavy and I had one worker cut in saying "if that really is an hk47 I don't suggest you put it here or it won't be here for long" as if threatening to steal it, I reply "well it's a good thing you have cameras" later on they tell me they aren't selling .22 caliber bullets and I inform them that it's fine and I have my own ammo, they then TAKE my ammo away from me which I've never had happen, and they tell me they're "following procedure" while making sure that I didn't touch my gun. When watching the safety video my friend comes to me sharing how he wanted to leave bc of how they were acting, and telling us that only one person at a time is allowed to be in the range. After telling the worker that my friends are beginners and need me to help them shoot the gun they say only 2 people allowed, knowing there is 3 of us. Later when a worker comes to us and she yells in front of all other customers "if you keep talking to these ladies you're going to have to leave or rewatch the video" after that I got up and said "I'm not giving anyone a penny that treats me like this" and left. I have gone to many ranges and never had any issues. I feel this was heavily influenced by my race, other customers around me actually agreed that she was being very rude. I brung business to your workplace and go to the range weekly. This type of customer service guarantees I won't be coming back. read more

Very nice indoor gun range and store. Decent selection of firearms and accessories for sale. New and used gun prices are a little high, but what you would expect from a retail store. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful. A variety of deals depending on what day you decide to go and shoot. Discounts for veterans is much appreciated. My only small complaints are how over the top they are about checking to make sure you are not trying to bring steel ammo into the range. Every time I assure them all I have is new, brass ammo, but I still have to remove every box from my range bag so they can run a magnet over each box. A bit of an aggravation, but not the end of the world. A little advice for the owners. If you value new and women shooters, maybe you have a little more consideration to where you place people in the range rooms. People, especially women shooting smaller caliber handguns don't appreciate the meathead with the AR in the lane next to them. You have two seperate range rooms, easy to seperate the two different types of shooters. Just an idea. Overall, great place. read more
