TopGun was so much better. First the selection of guns is pitiful compared to the old store. The amount of product and variety is sad now comparable to what it used to be. Definitely not Top Gun anymore. They have removed the gunsmith services (talk about tone deaf!) and raised range prices. They push the "membership" like an Amway Convention. They advised they have dropped the Glock blue label participation as well as Smith, also no military/LE discounts at all. Used to be a good place when it was Top Gun. Since being bought out by Midwest Shooting Center, they eliminated the military discount. Actually, it's Tuesday only now instead of every day. Also, they are $50 - $60 over the big online retailers for a new Glock 48 and 49. I called there to tell them I will buy one of the guns if they throw in a free range session with the new gun, but the rep politely said no. He said that was a perk of the old Top Gun, but not under MSC. Well, MSC, you've eliminated a lot of stuff, to include my business. On random days where you and your significant other has nothing else to do, get out and shoot some guns!! We were totally the ultimate noobs walking in to this joint. We walked in, filled out the safety forms then talked to the man behind the counter. Told them that it was or first time doing this. The guy was very knowledgeable, picked us a pistol that would be good for beginners to use. Hooked us up with bullets and had someone else show us how to properly use the pistol when we were in the range. Over all we had an awesome time. We started with two targets, after we finished the first box of ammo on the first target. We bought another target and box of ammo and we had ourselves a good who can shoot better competition. I have had several awesome experiences shopping, getting range time, and receiving training. The staff is always helpful, courteous, and safety driven. They are also COVID-19 compliant, have masks, and plenty of hand sanitizer for patrons to use if you are concerned. I will never go back here. This place scares the hell out of me. I'll drive a little further and go to Wolverine, any day! We went on a Monday when ladies are "free" even though its still expensive. The line was super long and we had to wait a really long time, that's fine, I expected that. What I didn't expect was to see how CARELESS their staff was. They were so miserable and unwilling to help. There were a group of young girls in front of us that were giggling and talking about how nervous they were to shoot. So I watched them to see what would happen....not happy. The lady working at the counter basically just handed over the guns and they were thrown in the range. They don't send anyone in to help. By the time we got up to the counter, all of the ranges were full so we got thrown into the rifle range even though we were shooting handguns. It was expensive and the staff was rude, careless, and seemed inconvenienced and I won't be back. I recommend any one considering going here to go to Wolverine on Dix-Toledo. Most of the guns that I own I bought from Top Gun. I started at their facility across the street after trying a couple other ranges. My biggest complaint then, was that I needed to wait in line. Since they moved into their new facility I really have no complaints. The guns, range fees, rentals, and ammo are all competitively priced. Their membership fees are more than reasonable, and if you are a regular shooter, the fees easily pay for themselves. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They are a mixture of ex military and law enforcement. If I am looking for a gun I will look here before I go anywhere else. Range ventilation and lighting are pretty good and include pistol and rifle ranges (25 yards). I have shot S&W .460 and .30-06 and they have a variety of rentals including a S&W 500 so I believe anything short of .50 BMG would be fine. My wife and I have been shooting for a while and we have tried many ranges in SE Michigan. Although, TG is 45 minutes from our house we still like to go here. read more

I understand that selling firearms should be taken seriously, but there should be some focus on customer service. Where do they find these people? These representatives are not professional. No smile. It's as if I walked into my local courthouse. Honestly, I have bought several guns from Top Gun and I used to love them, until I went to another store and the people behind the counter were actually courteous. I drove out here as I was looking to test a few sig firearms and they were the only range that said they would rent sigs. Drove an hour to top gun, spent 30 more min waiting in line, filling out paperwork, just to be told they wouldn't rent any of the sigs listed on their site on their range. *Update - Following the thoughtful remarks made by Top Gun's owner in response to my complaints listed, I have slightly raised my rating, I hope such things are put in order and updated quickly, and as an avid target shooter, do hope others have a much better time at what is a nice range. read more

Top Gun isn't a bad place to go shoot. They've grown over the years and have a pretty decent selection with a good variety of guns. Their staff is friendly, but some of them talk to customers like they are idiots. But they mean well in spirit! Their range is pretty nice, but don't even bother going there on the weekend unless you get there early. You'll seriously end up waiting longer than you will actually get to shoot at the range. I took a star away because like every other range they jack up the prices on ammo, and because while their selection of weapons is good, it's not amazing. They don't have any custom 1911's and they do not have many LEO pricing like the Firing Line does (TG has Sig and Glock, no S&W). Top Gun is my preferred gun shop Downriver. I have purchased multiple handguns and long guns from Top Gun and have always been satisfied with their staff. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The counter can get busy at times and it's not uncommon to have a short wait before you're helped. Their prices are a bit high but what you would expect from a retail store. Their selection is respectable and they usually have the more popular firearms in stock. They have a decent selection of parts and accessories as well. I really like the range here. It is well lit, ventilated properly and usually in good working order. Again it can get busy at times due to the paperwork you must fill out beforehand but that's not uncommon at any range. I have also used their gunsmith on several occasions. His workmanship is excellent, turnaround time is quick and the prices are fair. Overall I'd say Top Gun is a good choice for most of your firearm needs. read more

I was very hesitant to go here after so many poor reviews, but I was gladly surprised. They have more ranges than others, none of the restrictions others mentioned, and service was standard. Keep in mind you are dealing with gun fanatics. They typically aren't the most social, so as long as I'm treated with respect I'm happy. They also have a nice store and selection of some accessories. You won't find anything unique. Just the typical mass produced guns you can find anywhere else. As a collector I prefer more variety, but they sell what the public thinks they need. read more

This is where my daughter and I come to shoot. It is clean and well-maintained. There are plenty of lanes (24, I think) so waiting is never a problem. As a senior, I get a discount on Tuesdays. The staff is awesome (special shout out to Barb), friendly and very patient with those of us who ask way too many questions. Mike, I've been a member at Top Gun for many years now and purchased most of my firearms there. I've always been treated extremely well by your staff. In fact, I feel they often go beyond the call of duty to assure my satisfaction. I'm on a first name basis with many of them and get a warm greeting each time I visit. The range is always clean and well maintained which adds to the pleasure of shooting there. Even though I'm an NRA Instructor, I've taken most of the advanced classes Top Gun offers and highly recommend them to my students. Top Gun is an exceptionally nice shooting range with a good selection of handguns and an okay selection of rifles available for purchase. The range itself is clean and top notch. However, with that being said, this is literally the worst range I've ever been to. Top Gun's staff is ruder than all hell and I believe that it is actually a requirement to be a complete a$$ to work there. I was raised on the principles that you address everyone respectfully by calling him "sir" or her "ma'am". I've been nothing short of respectful and courteous EVERY time I walk in there and it's always the same dirtbag routine from a different person. Granted, there are a few nice gentleman that work here, but the 2-3 men do not make up for the rest. Recently, I went in and asked if I could have a firearm transferred from the manufacturer to Top Gun. Being a lefty, I wanted a left-handed rifle. I spoke with this really short man, let's call him Frodo. Frodo was drifting off into space because apparently, listening to a paying customers request is too much to ask (this was after I asked if he could get the make and model from a distributor). Frodo kept asking me what make and model I was looking for, at least 8 different times. Even when I said it slowly, "Eight-Tango-Lima," it was too fast for him to understand. After he pretty much told me to go screw myself and that he wouldn't order it, I even entertained the idea of purchasing another model AR that I was interested in. Asking to see the Sog Sauer 516. It was literally in front of my face and Frodo had the audacity to look around, then look me in the eye and say "Nope, we don't have it." Really guy? Now don't misunderstand, I'm not accusing Frodo of being inept or incompetent. Just a d-o-u-c-h-e. When you're running a business, treat your clientele like you would want them to come back. After that experience with Frodo, I literally walked into Gander Mountain and dropped $2,000 on a new rifle. I know this is one experience, but 99.99% of my time here at Top Gun has been exactly like this. Tell Frodo and the rest of the Hobbits to appreciate those who spend their hard earned money at your business. I'll take my money to a business who treats their customers with dignity and respect. Wanted to try out a few different rentals to decide what to purchase as my older gun is pretty out-dated. Problem is that they have a new policy that they only rent if you bring your mother or someone else to keep an eye on you. Even though I'm over 40 and have a CPL showing that I passed a background check for lawful and mental competence I guess this isn't good enough. I understand someone committed suicide here after renting but if they didn't rent would this rule apply to bringing in you own equipment too?? Maybe signed affidavits from my mother, priest, doctor, and president Obama would make them feel better.... It would have been nice for them to make mention of this policy on their website where they talk about rentals so I wouldn't have wasted my time.... read more

New and Used Gun Purchases: Top Gun has a very good selection of Pistols in stock, both new and used. From the guns I've come in looking at, they are a bit higher than you might find online, but not by much. By the time you account for shipping and transfer fees, Top Gun's prices are very attractive. As a bonus they will give you a three month range membership with most new gun purchases. Shooting Range: Certainly one of the better ranges I've had the pleasure of shooting at. The range equipment always works, they have tons of lanes, and the prices are reasonable. They are my prefered range in the area. Gun rentals: The pistol rental selection is large and reasonably priced. I can't speak to rifles as I am not much of a rifle shooter myself. Sadly, I have not been able to rent a pistols there on my recent visits, however, as a recent policy change prohibits rentals to solo shooters. I understand the reasons for this policy, but exceptions should be made if you already have your own firearms with you. I nearly always shoot solo, so this is a frustrating policy for me. Like most shops, rental pistols require the purchase of ammo at the store. It's the cheap stuff, and it's over priced, but that is standard fare for rentals at any range. Staff: Hit or miss. No one has been outright rude to me, but some of the staff can be grumpy. Sadly, this is also pretty common for gun shops in my experience. read more
