Very rarely do I buy meats from a grocery store. Honestly, the meat you get at a butcher shop is much better tasting and a better quality. You might pay a bit more, but the quality is there. I dont live too far from these guys and I had been there before but never for a freezer pack. I usually buy a few things from them . The other day , I ordered a basic freezer pack of beef. For the price of $60 I got : 5 lbs of hamburger 2 lbs short ribs 4 top sirloin steaks 5 lbs inside round roast So you get a good amount of product for that price. Worked out to about $4.60-$5 a pound !!! Because everything is frozen in these packages, I also bought a strip loin steak that was already pre marinated with a steak rub for dinner. Man, it was thick. .. a perfectly medium rare is about 6 minutes per side and let me tell you, there is nothing fresher than these steaks. The store offers a variety of different packages too. Pork, beef, poultry, Ok.. so now that you have read that, ask yourself one question . Why are you still buying meats from grocery stores? The meats here are delicious. All free range and no added hormones and anti biotics. Pretty natural if you ask me. The staff are great too. My boyfriend is a loyal customer - Real Deal Meats even calls him when they have new shipments in. This review is not to do with the product quality - it has to do with the HORRIBLE customer service that I just received, after trying to pick up a $300.00 order. As COVID is going on, I called to see if I could pick up the order and right off of the bat, this woman was so rude to me, she did not want to speak to me or answer any questions I had about their product ( I wanted to get more and see if they had stock). This place is the place to be for the best cuts of meat. No matter what you`re looking for, they can get it for you. Whether it`s fresh ground beef or a specially ordered roast (my pulled pork has never been so good), you won`t be disappointed. They do all their own smoking and dry aging, so people like me (who are sensitive to artificial smoking products, MSG, sulphites and the like) never have to worry about what I get from here. The free range chicken products are huge! My fiance and I can eat a chicken breast between the two of us, and what I usually use a few breasts for, I can use a few thighs for. The bacon is to die for, and the jerky (especially the pork) is a must try. I`ve never met a meat from Real Deal that I didn`t like. The icing on the cake has got to be the staff. No matter who you talk to, they are friendly and knowledgeable, even if you feel like you`re asking a dumb question. We`re moving to the opposite end of the city, but we will be continuing to make trips to Real Deal to get our meat (and eggs). You really can`t beat their meat! read more

Went here for some steaks for our first BBQ. We were delighted to see they had bison cut as we enjoyed them before. We bought 4 cost over $60 so presumed they would be mouthwatering to say we were disappointed is an understatement they were all fatty throughout strings of fat! In the butcher the 2 girls working stood bitching that a customer asked for the brisket 15 minutes before the due pick up time I had to interrupt them for service. I found whilst looking around that they were more expensive than other butchers ive been to, then after purchasing and eating it was very bad quality. I will not return which is a pity as it is walking distance to us. read more

Love this little local butcher, which has a good range of products and cuts. If you go on a Saturday morning you'll find them pretty crowded, but there's a reason for that! You can also get farm fresh eggs here, and they're knowledgeable about recommending the correct size and cut of meat for whatever you want. Besides the fresh cuts up front, they have lots of options in the freezers, including sausages, bacon, jerky, frozen vacuum sealed meats for later, and meat pies made locally also. I love the smell that hits you as soon as you walk through the door to this place, which is smoky and spicy and meat-y, all at the same time. I also love the fact that the staff working the counter will do anything they can to help you, even if that means summoning one of the butchers from the back to come out front and answer your questions. I do not, however, love the fact that the butchers are penned up in that little room, away from all of their meat-loving fans. I prefer free-range butchers, thank you very much. I absolutely love this place, it's everything I look for in a butcher, All their products are of the highest quality, from the AAA Angus beef (Halal certified) to their wide range of organic and free range bison, pork and chicken. They also carry fresh hutterite farm eggs and all their smoked products are made in store and do not contain any wheat, MSG or gluten. If you have any questions on how to prepare or cook the meats, Darcy is more than willing to help you out. I highly recommend the bacon and have it cut to your preferred thickness. Really makes it hard to go back to the prepackaged bacon available at your local supermarkets. read more

Stopped by this meat shop to grab some steaks for dinner. I was greeted prompted by one of the guys behind he counter. This shop has a variety of meats to choose from ranging from kebabs, different cuts of steak, chicken, sausage, burger patties and even beef jerky. The young gentleman who assisted me was was able to assist me friendly and efficient. He even helped me pick out a steak rub. I will definitely be coming back to try more meats. read more

Flawless. What an eye-opener! I, like other reviewers, have grown accustomed to supermarket meats, thinking the "premium cuts" offered by the chain stores are as good as it gets. Not so! Real Deal Meats not only is less expensive than the supermarkets but the cuts are above and beyond anything available in the chain shops. The beef tenderloin is superb, the bison tenderloin is sublime and there is absolutely nothing better on the planet than their Bison Peppered Sausage. Absolutely incredible! In addition you can get custom cuts and even Hutterite chickens! Make the trip to Real Deal at least once -- even if you're a north-side denizen it's worth checking out. Long live the butchers! OMG people, stop buying your meat at the supermarkets. Listen, the butcher is truly not much more. And you know EXACTLY where your meat is coming from. I love Real Deal because they actually have great prices, and I love when the freezer is 30% off!!! Give me EVERYTHING. I buy steaks, maui ribs, short ribs, and all my chicken from here. Oh, and once in a while I'll get a brisket to smoke on the barbecue. You can get fresh Hutterite eggs here as well, and a great assortment or jerkies, pepperoni, sausage, etc. One thing I haven't tried yet, but rest assured I will, is their smoked meat! I was a very loyal customer from when they first opened. We used to live in the area but moved out of town a few years ago but made sure we stopped in when we were in the area. This past Saturday I decided it's nice, maybe I'll go into town for a drive and grab something for the grill. I searched the hours to make sure they are open on Saturday, and the hours came up immediately, 11-5. I drove in. When I get there there I try the door, locked. There's a sign way over on the window that they are closed for the week. I was frustrated and called and left a message to explain my frustration that they hadn't changed their hours for the week they were closed. Had it been left at that, I wouldn't have wrote a review and probably would have stopped in the next time I was in town. This morning, I had a shrill, rude woman call me from real deal to tell me that I'm wrong and google said they were closed (I wouldn't have come in if it had) and basically yell at me for leaving a message. Excuse me? This is how you treat customers?? The whole ordeal was insanely unprofessional. This woman having a bad day or what? She called to fight me. I definitely won't be back. read more

The difficulty of reviewing this location, is that it may entice more Edmontonians to shop here, and I like the quick in and out as well as the great selection. Being only 10 or so minutes from our house is a nice plus because once you try their meats, you quickly become a regular customer. We find ourselves at Real Deal about once-twice a week. They are worth going out of your way for. Whether it is bison, beef, pork, or the occasion yak/angus cross, their cuts are amazing and their pricing is surprisingly reasonable. They have a great selection of fresh cuts and some frozen options. Their frozen burgers (all of them) are the best burgers I've ever had! You will never want another burger from anywhere else again! Just don't over cook them. We grab their smoked pig ears or frozen dog bones and our doberman just loves them. He won't eat raw-hydes or basic chew anymore. I recommend their pepperoni sticks. RUDE, RUDE RUDE I have been coming to this store for years and have always referred people to this store. In the past the service was very good and friendly. There were no problems with asking questions or getting advice. It was a joy to shop there. The last couple of times I came in the owner was very rude and made me feel like she was doing me a favour by letting me spend my money there. I know it takes a bit longer with my orders because I order organ meats and there are no posted prices for it anywhere (in store or on website) so they have to keep going in the back to get prices and availabilityI. Although this stuff gets ground up for dog food at a fraction of the cost I am paying, I don't mind paying higher prices to get what I need. During the pandemic I came in an ordered beef heart. There was a huge layer of fat. When I mentioned this I was told (and not in a nice way) that this is what I get. I ended up throwing away around 25%. She was short and rude. I let it go during the pandemic because there were so many customers in line outside and it was a very stressful time. They are only open 5 days a week and 6 hours a day so they were very busy during these hours. I put in an order a couple of days ago to give them time to get everything ready so they don't have to rush. Today I picked up my order and was a bit disappointed at what I ordered because the packages were too big. That is all on me because that was the order I put in. As soon as the woman saw me she swoops in and proceeds to lecture me on how this is what I ordered and how much work was put into it. She also proceeded to tell me how I always have a problem with my orders. This was the first order I ever placed ahead of time. I have never had any problems with anyone besides her. I was not asking for my order to be repackaged. I know my order was quite large and a lot of work went into it and I was so stunned by the service and attitude I paid for my order and left. My mistake, should have left it and gone somewhere else. I was going to spend quite a bit more money but not when I'm treated like that. They were not that busy and there was no excuse for it. Normally I would just let it go and go elsewhere. But I was so upset I decided to call and voice my concerns. I was told that maybe I should shop somewhere else. No problem. I am not a difficult customer. I tend to ask a lot of questions to make sure I get exactly what I need. I am trying more and more to shop local and support small businesses. To me customer service is still very important. I know customer service is not what it used to be but this was a whole new level. I don't need to spend my money and get abused while doing it. I tend to go to the same places and normally have no problems. This would have been no different. Now that I have figured out what I need, future dealings would have been a breeze. Making an order online worked well until I asked for something that they have more than one item called same thing. My regular family sized requests should have been an indication of the amount I needed. I had meant to drop into Real Deal Meats while eating at Dumplings but never seemed to have time. Last week I went in and bought the whole deboned free range chicken and I'm very glad I did! It was honestly the best chicken I've ever had. It was so easy to cook (we covered top and bottom with a simple rub of chili peppers, lime & lemon peel, threw it on top of cloves of garlic, sliced onions & fennel root and a splash of wine and olive oil- a 5 minute prep) and it turned out like something that took hours to prepare. There was no bone or cartilage but the bird still looked like it was whole and neat. I will definitely be returning to try other items. read more

These guys are the "real deal," for sure. I used to buy my ground beef at Safeway, and became quite accustomed to seeing a bunch of water collect in the frying pan as I browned my beef. I was amazed to see that this did not happen with the ground beef from Real Deal. It doesn't even smell the same as Safeway beef. I highly recommend the Kessler pork chops which are fully smoked.
