This review is long overdue…read more I have been going to RA Organic Spa for over 20 years. I have visited other resorts and spas, but I'm always grateful that I found RA and can keep coming back. The feeling of comfort and serenity is abundant the moment you walk in. They greet you by name when you arrive and again when you leave. The lobby is small but very welcoming. They offer plenty of products for purchase, but they never hard-sell you. When you check in, there is a small waiting area where you can sit with hot tea, water, and small snacks while you wait. Please make sure to turn off your cell phone--this is a quiet zone, so whispering or no talking is encouraged. The dim lighting really makes you feel like you've stepped into another world. There is also another waiting area in the back if you need to change into a robe for your service. There is actually a lot of space back there to relax while waiting. The treatment rooms themselves are warm and comfortable, and each room has a closet for your personal items. In the back area, they also have changing spaces and lockers. There are two changing areas, along with a room that has chairs specifically for foot and neck massages. I highly, highly, highly recommend the foot massage. They take it to the next level because they start with your neck and arms before moving to the foot massage. I dare you to try not to fall asleep by the time they're done. I have seen the spa when they are busy and when they are slow, and I have never seen it dirty or unkempt. The level of cleanliness and the standards maintained by the staff have always been excellent. I've never had trouble booking an appointment. I've also given gift certificates to family members and friends, and three people I know now go there regularly because of those gifts. Their prices are by far some of the best in the industry. You simply cannot find a facial at the price they offer at RA. I've looked, and I can't find anything comparable. If you want a facial, I highly highly recommend Maria. She has truly turned back time on my skin with the facials she gives me. She listens to your needs and walks you through the products she uses to make sure they match what your skin needs and what you're looking for. She genuinely cares. Under new management, they have recently added online booking through their website, which is wonderful. I'm looking forward to another great 20 years going to RA--ugh, I just aged myself! She was not only able to locate every knot I had, but was able to skillfully massage them away with such a strong, intuitive touch that I melted every time she was able to "pop" a knot out from my back and legs. We did a couples massage deal which was $80 per person and then they suggest $20/25 tip per person. You can get Swedish or Thai massage for that deal for 60 minutes. When asked about strength, I asked for light because I'm sensitive but it didn't sounded like that was an option, only did medium to hard. So I went with medium and at times it was often too much and hurt. I did like the use of warm stones. My partner and I get a ton of massages and we left feeling our massages were both just okay.

She made unsolicited comments about my decision to start laser hair removal in my late twenties, which was completely inappropriate and frankly none of her business. I came in for a service that I chose for myself--not to be lectured or made to feel bad about when I decided to do it. She was also clearly in a rush to get through my appointment. I have an extremely low pain tolerance, and while I understand that isn't her responsibility, she seemed visibly frustrated that I couldn't tolerate even the lowest setting of the laser. Instead of showing any patience or understanding, she told me, "Definitely next time get a numbing cream." The entire interaction felt rushed and uncomfortable. On top of that, there were a few areas that I genuinely could not shave properly because they were difficult to reach. She told me she would laser them this time, but that next time I needed to be "more thorough" because otherwise the laser wouldn't be effective. I understand that clients are expected to shave beforehand, but there is a huge difference between giving someone a simple reminder and making them feel embarrassed or inadequate over something they genuinely could not reach. And what makes this even more frustrating is that I had a completely different experience at the Encino location. My sister had encountered the same issue there, and the technician simply had a single-use razor available and took care of the area. No attitude. No judgment. No embarrassing comments. Just basic professionalism and common sense. A beauty treatment should not leave a client feeling judged, rushed, or embarrassed. People make sacrifices to take time out of their day for themselves. You have no idea what someone has going on in their life, how long they've been saving for a treatment, or how much it may have taken for them to finally make that appointment. The absolute bare minimum should be making them feel comfortable and respected. I am beyond disappointed with the Glendale location. It is unfortunately the closest location to me, but I would rather drive farther than ever deal with this kind of treatment again. Management seriously needs to address the way clients are being treated at this location.
