When we brought him home he could barely focus on us. On walks, he reacted to every plane overhead and every bird, and it seemed like he barely noticed we were there. He had no leash training at all, and was destructive at times, ripping up and eating his dog beds and even chewing drywall. He was a sweet boy, but so anxious and unsettled. That's when we found Steve. Someone I know personally recommended him, as he helped her transform her anxious and very reactive dog when she had almost lost hope. When you first meet him you'll see the big beard, the tattoos, hear the loud music playing at his facility. Beyond the tough exterior, at his core, he is incredibly passionate, very sensitive, and cares immensely for dogs. He is devoted to showing owners how to truly connect with their dogs. Not through bribing their dog for attention with treats, but through building real connection, communication, focus, and trust. His verbal commands, hand gestures, position, and focus are all aligned and incredibly precise, and this makes it crystal clear to your dog what he wants them to do. It's inspiring to see and makes you want to work hard to achieve that yourself one day. He's also good at working with humans. At one of our first sessions, before showing me a leash handling technique, he quickly paused and asked first if it was okay to touch my hands to demonstrate. I was surprised he even thought to ask. It would have been so easy to miss this as a man, and it showed a lot about who he is. In addition to teaching you the technical skills, he also coaches you. The farther along you get in training, the harder certain skills can get to execute, and he's right there telling you to stop being a perfectionist, that you're doing better than you think, and to keep going. And when something finally clicks, he is genuinely excited for you and your dog. I also appreciate his passion and expertise on the proper nutrition dogs need to be truly healthy, physically and mentally. If you aren't already feeding your dog high quality raw or fresh food, he will encourage you to and educate you on how important it is. He'll explain that nutrition is actually a critical component of your dogs' mental state and ability to achieve focus. He also recommended several supplements that helped transform our pup's gut and skin health, and turned his coat from itchy and flaky to shiny and healthy - he now looks like a seal and legitimately gets compliments everywhere on his coat. Our dog is now a year old, still very much a puppy for the Doberman breed. We've had him for just 5 months and he is able to go with me to stores and sit outdoors at restaurants and settle in quietly. We no longer worry about him being destructive in the house. He does well with other dogs of all sizes and even those who aren't well-behaved. At dog parks when something chaotic is happening, our dog is now able to disengage and stay focused on me instead of joining in like he would have before. People genuinely can't believe how young he is or that we haven't had him very long and constantly comment on how calm he is. He's also able to be gentle and snuggle with our 17 year old cat. My wife and I have had our dog Winston for almost 7 years. We were SO thrilled with his progress that we booked our 11 year-old golden Komodo for a 4 session training program with Sami to teach him the same obedience, basic manners, loose-leash, and recall skills. I'm excited to report that Komodo graduated with flying colors yesterday and we also learned so much in the process! Thanks to Sami and K9 Command's balanced training, David and I learned the skills needed to effectively train our dogs and help them live their best lives! Yeti used to bark at everything. People, dogs, animals on tv, and more. His lunging and barking would scare people away, including our extended families. Komodo also started picking up Yeti's bad habits - not listening, leash tugging, and excessive barking. Nothing was working, and we became really limited in where we could go with the dogs and who we could be with. We've seriously done more together in these past few weeks since Yeti and Komodo's training than we have in all of Yeti's life! All of a sudden they don't think he's a good fit for them, maybe he should go to a private groomer. It's really unfortunate. We have the premier membership or whatever they offer. He was seen at petcos in CA before moving here. He is such a loving (though big) golden retriever. We will try another location to see if there are actual groomers who are wanting to do their job. Seems clear from our most recent experiences (and reading some of the other reviews) this location can't handle any dog. I should mention his ears and paws were soaked when picked up. He is prone to ear infections, which they know about. When we had taken him in with other groomers there he was there 3+ hours. Now, barely 2 hours. He seems really depressed now too. Poor buddy traumatized by the lack of care there

We got our puppy early in the pandemic. When she was 8 months old and in the throes of adolescence I trusted my gut that we needed to find the right fit for us in a trainer. Despite all we had learned in group classes and with various trainers she still pulled a lot on leash, we wanted more accountability to prevent separation anxiety since we both worked from home, and certain behaviors were increasing like alert barking and disengaging in our training sessions. We found Eric because he came highly recommended by a separation anxiety specialist. What really separated Eric's style from what we'd received so far is seeing the whole picture based on breed, personality of the dog and what they find reinforcing, extensive experience with local resources, enrichment tailored for who your dog is, and a style of teaching that was enthusiastic, warm, and emphathic. Eric keeps up to date with science in dog psychology & training. This is so important in a world that in unregulated. His mastery of the art and science of dog training is incredible, and it rests on a foundation of immense compassion and care for the dogs and families he works with. From the first session I experienced a huge exhale knowing we were finally in the right hands. Fast forward to today our now 16 month old dog can walk with 2 light fingers on her leash, clipped onto the back attachment of her harness. If she sees a squirrel, bunny, or other dog along our walk, she looks to us for guidance rather than impulsively pull towards it as she once did. We were given structured homework for home alone practice and she now just sleeps when we're away for hours. Her recall is impeccable due to Eric's fun and deft training games, and us following through with practice between sessions. We love hiking and were so happy that Eric is a passionate outdoorsperson too which meant he could teach us to train our puppy for exploring the backcountry safely for her and others in a myriad of ways. We can now read dog body language to keep play safe and fun, and know how to handle encounters with other dogs on and off leash. We know how to meet her specific needs for exercise and enrichment. We have learned about cooperative care for things like nail trims and how listening and respecting the pace and communication of your dog can pay off in spades in terms of relationship and less stress when handled. Notably, our journey through adolescence with her was so much easier because of his guidance. In these pandemic times, life is already stressful enough. (being science-based means he follows great Covid safety protocols) Eric has been a rock of support and help in navigating the complex and sometimes confusing world of raising a puppy. Finding Eric as our trainer was one of the best things that happened in 2020, some light in a dark year. We continue our training as we keep learning every session and our dog keeps growing. Next, Robin worked on the upstairs and created a space where dogs can begin to work on their improving their skills. Mostly, the trainers are TOP NOTCH. They are all R+, and when there needed to have substitute trainers, Robin brought in some of the BEST. We have moved to more advance trialing, but without the work and training at Four Paws, we would have never embarked on this journey. Thank you to all of the trainers, past and present and to Robin for providing a safe, R+ environment for our pups to catch the agility bug. It is at a convenient location, check in is seamless, dog safety is paramount and it is indoors.
