I was disappointment with my experience at the Orthopedic Walk In practice on Ensign Drive in Avon…read more After a clear shoulder injury and severe pain, conclusions were quickly jumped to and comparisons made to patients who are decades older than me, rather than on my actual history and symptoms. When I later had the follow up with the Orthopedic Physician, my concerns were again not fully heard, and the evaluation relied heavily on the PA's initial ( and incorrect) assumption, instead of reassessing my condition. Advanced imaging was initially refused, and I was sent to Physical Therapy. After months of limited improvement, imagining was finally ordered and showed that the initial assumption was wrong. Patients deserve to be listened to, have their concerns taken seriously, and to receive thoughtful, individualized care. Relying on age based comparisons and repeating unexamined assumptions can lead to delayed diagnosis, prolonged pain, and unnecessarily/ incorrect treatment.

Of course there was the normal healing needed over a few weeks, but overall, even I was shocked how quickly I was up and about. They are so good about checking in, providing step by step instructions, both before and after, so I never felt lost or confused. As an avid rugby player (20+ years) I needed the expertise of the office to address issues with my shoulder and then, after a work place injury that severely damaged my left knee, I witnessed first hand the amazing talents of this practice. With Orthopedic Sports Specialists, it is not just about an in and out surgery. More appropriately, you bring them the problem and then the "team" goes to work. In house Xray technology, extremely talented surgeons and then, to complete the recovery, one of the best Physical Therapy teams that I have ever encountered. The team approach means that patient care is directed by the surgeon every step of the way - in fact. Dr. Merrill, one of the three orthopods, routinely would confer with the in house physical therapists to assure clear direction for speedy recovery. In the spring of 2026, I had a complete knee replacement. Many of my colleagues had gone through knee replacement surgery and what they experienced was hospital stays, wheel chairs and crutches. Because of this group's dynamic approach. I not only walked out of the operating room, I was in physical therapy the next morning in the office with a very quick recovery. Truly remarkable when you consider how badly injured I was with intense pain every time I walked. Now, some months later, I am still in awe at the care and treatment I received and I am walking normally with very little scarring. What a great place - a paramount of care and concern!
