I heard about this place in the media recently and decided to check it out. According to their web site, there are 3 locations, and this one is the closest to my home, so we stopped by on Friday. What's really great is that they have a drive-thru to drop your stuff off! This was particularly convenient since it was raining. To get to the drive-thru, go in the right entrance and once you're through the gate, turn left and into the building. There's also a weigh station, which I have to assume is for really big loads of scrap metal. Not only is it nice to have a place that will accept your old electronics year round, but they pay you for it! For my effort, I made a whopping $4.80. You're not going to get rich from it, but certainly beats having to keep the junk around your house or pay someone to take it away because you can't throw it out with the regular trash. Well done, but shady practices The operation seems to run…read morewell, easy to use, and nice that I can cash in on scrap metal. What I don't like is that every time I've gone, the payout price is ALWAYS lower than advertised. The excuse of 'fluctuating market prices' can be true, but amazingly always in their favour. The 'mixed metal' rates are over-compensated in their favour - you could hand them something that's clearly 99% gold (for an extreme example), but if it has so much as a tiny metal screw in it, the whole thing becomes about the same worth as all-metal. Their measured weights are also light. For bulk steel, the printout weight was actually lower than the scale readout (now that's brazen!) And for a specific metal type (ex. purely alum cans), I pre-weighed my load (in a large cardboard box) with 2 separate (and accurate) digital scales (both were the same) - CFT's weighed amount was about 4 kilos light, and it's not like the box they were in weighed anywhere close to that! They skim just low enough to make it look like some kind of margin of error. It's dirty and they need to be legally called out on it!
