DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! If I could give them 0 stars I would.
They are slumlords bottom line. My roommates and I rented a house in the south side from them while we were in college (2014-2016). First of all the house we rented was not updated what so ever. The man who was showing us the house confirmed that there would be a team of 30 people who would come before move in to clean and fix anything if necessary. We were also told the house had central air and heat. On move in day, NOTHING was clean. We had to do all of the cleaning ourselves. There was also dirt all over the walls, which had to be cleaned. There were holes that you could tell were patched that were not painted over. Over more than half of the cabinets in the kitchen were broken off and did not close all the way (which was never fixed). There were also multiple windows in the house that opened but did not stay open and would fall right back down. Also, there were multiple windows that did not lock. Lastly, the central air and heat that was promised was missing!!!! We had no air. We had told them about this and how we were told there was air and they explained that the person we signed the lease with no longer worked there and he was not a licensed real estate agent. REAL NICE! So one, they do not background checks on their employees and two we were never notified about the man who leased to us being fired. They luckily installed air, but still! The first year (we lived there two years), there were no big problems that occurred besides a broken toilet handle, which their maintenance man came to fix within 2 days. However, going into the second year there were many problems that occurred. I am not sure what happened between the first and second year, maybe they thought they could take advantage of us since they knew we were no longer renewing our lease with them. The first problem that occurred was with our door to our basement, which could be accessed from outside. The door from the outside was old and had a huge hole in it. Which, of course was never fixed before move in. One day we had a problem with a man trying to get into it. The doors outside had steps leading to an entrance way to the basement, which was blocked by a piece of wood that could've easily been moved or pushed by a human or animal. We had explained that since there was a hole and then a second door leading into the basement, we were very concerned that anyone could get into our house. We put in multiple maintenance requests for them to come fix the whole and they finally, after 2 and a half months, came and nailed a piece of wood over the hole. The second problem occurred when my roommate kept hearing noises in her closet and expressed a concern that it may be an animal. There had been a hole in her closet for quite some time that she had put in requests to be fixed; however again they had never came. She finally kept calling and someone came by and they blocked the hole, however it took at least a month for them to do so. The maintenance man explained that there had been a bird nest inside her closet that could also be accessed from the outside, so who knows what else was in there. The third problem occurred in my room. I lived in the bedroom on the third floor and for almost a whole year I would be able to hear an animal running around in the rafters. For a while the noises weren't terrible and figured the animal would leave soon. However, from the months of January 2016-May2016 (Our lease ended May 31st, 2016), the noises were getting louder and louder. I was starting to get concerned that since the noises were louder, then the animal was closer and closer to getting inside the house. Not to mention they were so loud I was unable to sleep some nights. I put in multiple requests before someone stopped by. From my knowledge, the maintenance man stopped by on three different occasions when I was there. The first time he had mentioned the problem seems to be birds. He came by that same day and spayed repellent and said the noises would stop. SURPRISE, the noises did not stop. I then put in another request and told them I had to make other arrangements to sleep elsewhere because the noises were that loud at this point. He came by again, sprayed the repellent and left. He had mentioned that traps could not be set up because they do not know what it is. By the beginning of May, the noises were absolutely unbearable. I have taken multiple videos of the noises and sent them to our landlord, Sean. Sean expressed to me that the maintenance man had been there more than half a dozen times and traps have been set up. However, to my knowledge he has been there three times and told me traps could not be set up. Also, if traps were set wouldn't someone think the animal would no longer be there? He continued to make excuse after excuse. This company is very unprofessional and do not care about their tenants whatsoever. read more
